Sure pop ups aren't really a problem. But when I see exploits, trojans, etc coming from the site, I'd sooner not take my chance that my antivirus will be able to stop all of them.
I might go to a site like that and take my chances for like a single download of something that I absolutely must have. But I'm not going to expose my system to stuff like that on a daily / casual basis like I would be for a source of entertainment.
