Wow VERY nice JJ!

My dad was in WWII but didn't have nearly as gallant a story to tell.

May god bless all who fight to keep us free.

I once DJ'ed for a WWII reunion some years ago. I was proud to do all I could to make the night memorable for them while also humbled by their sacrifice.

Nor did my Dad. He enlisted fresh from dental school. His best WWII story was when a soldier he was working on complimented him and asked how long he'd been a dentist. Dad said he wasn't a dentist. He was an accountant. When his commission came through, it was for the Dental Corps. He went down to the VA and asked what he should do. Their advice was to keep it as you never knew how long it would take for another commission to come through. So he watched the other dentists and copied what they did.

After he finished and the soldier left, Dad went to get his next patient. He heard his previous patient telling the next guy on line "he's really an accountant but don't worry. He's very good."

My uncle was a medic and was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge. He continued tending to the wounded, in spite of being hit by shrapnel from a German 88mm artillery piece. He was awarded the Silver Star for doing that.

My Dad was also in the war, but no glamorous stories from him. He didn't see any combat.
