I'm diving into my various crafts so I'm posting a lot... sorry.
I'm working on my rebuilable design and I'm trying to decide what material to make my various components out of. I love stainless and all but really it's just too much of a PITA to machine on my little CNC so I'm thinking about other materials.
Aluminum jumps out as an obvious choice as does Delrin. I'm sort of curious why I havn't seen any delrin rebuildables. The material is cheap, hard as hell and I'm pretty sure that it's plenty heat and chemical resistant, especially machine grade delrin.
I also thought about hardwoods... I've got some sealant that's considered food safe, was thinking it'd be neat to have a rebuildable atty made out of wood
downside is the heating and cooling action that's gonna happen will probably destroy the wood over time and cause cracks so that's sorta out but delrin... easy to machine, relatively cheap, pretty durable and you can get it in a variety of colors.
