Thanks!!! My bone loss is severe. But then I'm 62. I Feel and act like I'm 30 though. How old are you if you don't mind. Just wonder if age is a factor and young people heal faster.

I'm 50. I vape low watt (as in 10 ;)), on high ohm coils (1.2 - 1.5 ohms), mouth to lung, same as smoking. I heal a whole lot faster now that I'm not smoking anymore! I did get a dry socket once when I was in my 30's and was a smoker. It was very painful!

I've had 5 molars extracted so far, in preparation for dental implants ...

In each case, the maxillofacial surgeon inserted a teflon membrane over each bone graft, tucked in under the gums, with sutures to hold it in place for about a month. The membrane completely protects the bone graft until it has fused. My general dentist tells me its a tricky procedure, and is usually done only by an experienced oral surgeon ...

When the membrane is removed, the implant is placed, and another 3 to 4 months of healing before the abutment and crown are installed ...

I vaped normally through all of these procedures, with the surgeon's approval. He recommends vaping for his smoking patients ...

I should mention this was all done in Mexico, $1500 total cost for each implant. Three years since the first two molars were extracted, and the implants are the strongest teeth that I have !

I feel for you.
I'm 72 and last year had a molar extraction (no bone graft) and heard the same dry socket/straw/'smoking' ban. If you can't get on with temporary suspension of vaping or the patch (I couldn't/wouldn't - I smoked for 55yrs and having quit didn't want to chance a relapse) you could try what I did - with the mouth open so there's no suction, put the drip tip under or barely into one nostril, close the other nostril with a finger and vape (gently ! ) - you won't be doing it as often as you would have been but it helps...absorption of nic in the nostril/throat is more effective than MTL or DL hits.
HTH :)

That sounds great!! I am going to the top rated and voted super star since 2004 by the people, periodontist in my city but I'm not sure he does that procedure. I'm gonna call and ask first thing in the morning. Good to know that's out there. Where did you go in Mexico? I've read about that. Good Drs and better prices. Just these bone grafts are almost 4,000 for two teeth. I'm close to Mexico

Have you had any kind of this type dental work dome since you started vaping.

Yup, the four extractions last summer. At that point I had been vaping for almost five years. No dry sockets, even though I had one abscessed tooth. Everything healed just fine. And I vaped as soon as I left the dentist's office (bad I know).

I appreciate you feeling for me. I'll do what ever I have to to satisfy my cravings. Like you I couldn't and wouldn't. There'd have to put me in restraints. Ha! It's so nice, I'm 62 and so far have heard from a 52 and a 72 year old. I thank you all

Well I really feel better. I'm having two pulled and grafted. That's what concerns me is the bone to graft with no problems. One is practically abcessed. It has been in the past and now it won't stop flaring up. That's the big rush. Bacterial Infection running rapid doing lord knows what. You've been so helpful. All my best

Forgive my confusion, but you can still breathe fairly OK, just not suck?
A powerful atomizer held close to the mouth would 'feed' vapor into your inhalation zone.
Even at 25 watts, a drip tip touching the lips seems to do this.
Then again, maybe I'm misunderstanding. It's been a long weekend....
Oh yes I'm a powerful singer by trade so that's all good. Thy just don't want you to suck on anything as you might suck the blood clot out which is what they want to turn into new skin. I still use the original kanger evods. I don't know anything about watts ohms or mods.. It's Greek to me. Any suggestions that any dummy can understand on what would work. Like I could go buy like tomorrow?

Pretty much any regulated (box) mod. And a rebuildable atomizer, I would say an RDA, as stated earlier, for the extra airflow. I would suggest something around 70-100 watts or better. Mine is 200w. So I can go like 5w-200w. Never actually had it to 200 though. Whatever mod / atomizer you decide on, there are lots here that can walk you through building coils in a range that will work on whatever you buy. If I can build a coil that works on an ecig battery running at 8-16watts..well.. your new mod should be easy enough. :)
Steam Engine main page is pretty much our goto source for building coils.

My general dentist is in Tijuana, in Zona Centro, within sight of the border ...

Implant surgeons are very busy in Tijuana, with patients from all over the Southwest US and beyond, so getting an appointment can take a little time, that's the only problem I've had. Last time I was there, I talked to a guy in the waiting room, he was a fishing boat captain from Alaska ...

I'm lucky to be only 50 miles from the border, but people who travel to San Diego for medical care in Tijuana still save a bunch of money, and in many cases get superior treatment ...

First thing they do is send you 5 blocks up the street to a radiology center for a full panoramic dental x-ray, costs $25 and its ready in about 10 minutes ...

Since I had my implants done, my dentist has contracted with an implant specialist who works in his office, even more convenient ...

Mexican dentists have a high percentage of smoking patients, so they know very well how to deal with any complications, and they don't scold and demean smokers, or vapers ...

The myths about poor quality medical and dental care in Mexico are as pervasive and unfounded as the disinformation about vaping, motivated by greed and ignorance ...

Shoot me a PM and I'll give you the name and US phone number for my Tijuana dentist ... :D

Good point on the sucking thing. I would take it in with you and ask the person who is performing your procedures.
Push come to a shove; do a patch until it heals. But DON't Ingest the liquid directly by mouth.

and why not?? is it bad to ingest vapor in contact with the tissues of the mouth?? and if it is, what should be done to avoid this? vapor/liquid contact with the tissues of the mouth is pretty much the same... in fact Ive heard/read most of the absorbtion of nic occurs in the mouth sinuses than the lungs... but there is no real proof of that statement either....

I would be very interested in your source of info that states the proof that liquid contact as compared to vapor contact in the mouth region is differential to a point of being hazardous....

and to add... what about all the vaperz who have to deal with their atties "spitting" thats pretty much a direct liquid contact...

Thanks I'll have to keep that in mind. I came from Nogales area prior and never thought about going back to save on the implants
