I started oil pulling with coconut oil and this solved everything. I also dumped fluoride toothpaste we only need that when your developing teeth. My gums are great as are my teeth and coconut oil is a natural teeth whitener.

I've read about pulling with coconut oil. If I may ask, how long do you pull each time?
I'd read that you need to for 20 minutes, twice a day, if memory serves.

I've been fighting gum disease for over 10 years, and prob always will.

I quit analogs a little over 6 months ago, and have experienced some sensitivity too, but that seems to be passing.

I've mentioned this elsewhere. If you have gum disease, rinse with CloSYS. I've recovered so much in the last few years, my gums are almost perfect, now. My history with gingivitis started as a child and I have over 50% bone loss on most of my teeth. All my teeth are stable and accounted for, and my 7 to 12mm pockets are now no deeper than 3 or 4. No gum pain, ever. I wish I had found the stuff earlier. I've done almost everything conceivable and it always felt like a neck and neck battle, now it feels easy.

Wow, really!! 7 to 12mm, now 3 & 4. That is just amazing!!

May I ask, did you have the surgery where they peel and trim your gums? I chose not to because neither the periodontist, nor my dentist(s) could look me in the eye and say that they've seen at least 50% success rate.

I've been getting dental cleanings every 6 to 8 weeks for the last 6 or 7 years now, (faithfully) and they're maintaining, thankfully.
I think my worst is 9mm, and I think only 2 of those, I think I have several 5's, and several 3's & 4's.

I also was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 years ago, so I have not had any more dental x-rays since then, I really just don't want to take any chances, so I'm not sure the status of my bone loss.

Some of mine I believe is heredity. My mother had dental issues and had several of hers pulled before she was 35.
They tell me my home care is excellent, and that there isn't really anything, beyond surgery, that they know of for me to do that I'm not already doing.

I'm going to try what you've suggested. I'll see if I can find it locally tomorrow. Thank you SO much for sharing your success!!

No surgery, they want me to but right now I can't afford the 8 grand they want. Both parents and my brother have full bridges up front. My life long overbite is finally taking it's toll on my two front teeth, and I can no longer look anyone in the face, so I'm leaning more towards orthodontistry now than perio. I still get deep cleanings at the perio office, though, as per their alternative to surgery. They do implants too and I'm trying to muster the guts to ask him for two, knowing that he'll look down on me for skipping flap surgery.

To be honest, I was recovering well on my own before I came to them, they wouldn't know I had these problems without x-rays and sticking picks in me. They can't understand why someone with such great hygiene could have so much bone loss. And exact quotes from two dentists as they went down the line wiggling my teeth.. "oh, you're sooo lucky". But I'm not kidding myself, most of my teeth are standing tip-toe on their roots.

My major malfunction is that I NEVER flossed until my 30's. Crap just sat between my teeth all that time and it disgusts me to think about it. Needless to say, I'm a religious flosser now. CloSYS is by far the best rinse I've found, it works so well that it takes more time in the day for plaque to develop, missing a brushing or flossing is not such a big deal. It kills accesses in day, never to return. Swelling and pain disappears. That's my experience, anyway, google it and read what everyone else says. Some things I've put away for not competing in regards to ending abcesses are listerine, biotene, Tom's, prescription chlorhexidine gluconate, salt water, and peroxide.

Oh and FYI, if you or anyone else here tries CloSYS, dispose of the included flavoring, it's a tiny dropper bottle of something like clove oil, for people to add if they want a minty flavor. Unflavored, it tastes like not-so-great city tap water, but the mint flavoring is nasty, IMO, and it will RUIN YOUR vape!

Not sure I understand that. Are you saying those didn't work for you?

In my experience, I've had the best luck brushing with baking soda, rinsing with 50/50 water & hydrogen peroxide, flossing daily.
When I say luck, I mean best results maintaining. I pretty much have zero faith in any commercial toothpaste product. Using a water pik is great too, I can really tell that helps, too.

I thought the chlorhexidine gluconate was a total joke.

I've thought about implants, but I was told that can cost $20K........um, no. Not for me.

My mom had a bridge too. My dad (86) has all of his teeth, except for one false tooth, and it was broken during a childhood bicycle accident, so no issues from him, I just didn't get those genes I guess...:(

Yes, I too have to accept the majority of the blame. Sporadic dental visits, non-flosser for most of my life. (SMOKING):p

I think that orthodontics ruined my desire to continue regular dental care. My orthodontist was a total jerk, he was WELL KNOWN for his jerkiness........

I had bleeding gums for the first year after I quit smoking. I went to a Periodontist and he told me that once you quit smoking, normal blood flow returns to your gums as well as normal flora. There was nothing to be concerned about.

He ended up being right because now my gums are back to the normal bright pink and the bleeding has stopped.

If you are very concerned about it ( especially the pain which I did not have) it may be wise to see your dentist.

Hang in there and good luck to you.

They worked to a degree, they all played their part in my recovery, but bleeding and monthly abscesses continued (my gums have bled since I was a child, way before quitting the cigs, that actually didn't seem to cause any mouth related issues for me. By the time I did quit I was already going hazmat on my mouth every day, and all the symptoms people mention are things I've lived with forever).

I used all of these rinses and others (clove and sea buckthorn oil), sometimes one after the other, for about 3 years. Severity of my condition would rise and fall like a roller coaster. I saw CloSYS on a shelf and googled it's main ingredient, saw positive reports and decided to try it. That feeling of a neck and neck battle against bacteria, using every weapon you can get your hands on, ended right away.

I use it exclusively now, for over 2 years now and all the gaps between my teeth are filling with pink gum tissue (do doubt the perio scaling and cleanings helped big time, but things can go downhill fast after those if you're not doing the right things). My wife had an abscess and tried it behind my back, she said it disappeared in a day or two. Bottom line, I don't feel like I need an arsenal of weapons, anymore.

I brush with fake sensodyne for the nitrate, since my other issue, the overbite, has caused a lot of wear and nerve exposure. Not sure how well that works, I think watching what I eat and drinking tons of water makes a huge difference, baking soda is also great for neutralizing the acids that can irritate nerves.

Not sure I understand that. Are you saying those didn't work for you?

Excellent way to put it.......going hazmat........LOL!!!
Yes, I did have the scaling. I'm sure that helped too, but that was years, and years ago for me.

I'll get some CloSYS today, and give it a go!! Without the additive (clove), which I don't care for anyway, so very happy you said it's not essential to add.

Thank you again soooooooo much for sharing your experience, and what has and hasn't worked for you. It's funny (well, not really funny), but people who don't have it, have no idea. It's nice to get some encouragement from those who have been there, and know the battle!:)

You're welcome, hope it works for you. I just want to see at least one person feel the relief it brings me, like huge weight off my shoulders. I feel obligated to let people know, because I think the stuff is still under the radar. I get it from Walgreens and CVS.

I would LOVE to be at least that one person!! I very thankful that I've been maintaining, but would love to see progression without spending thousands of dollars in my mouth!!

I'm off work today and have errands, so I'm headed to CVS (first), I do think I've seen it there, and the website says CVS carries it. I'm sure I'll find it, or I'll go to Walgreens.

I'm subscribed to this thread, so I'll let you know in a few weeks if there is any change. They tell me that to just look inside my mouth, and not use the (expletive) probe, that you would not know that I have any issues, so hopefully I can get at least a little improvement in the deeper pocketing areas. (fingers crossed)

I can usually tell overnight if something is working just by the way my mouth tastes in the a.m. Not sure if you know what I'm talking about, you prob do since you've been at this basically your whole life.

I wanted to come back and thank you for the heads up on CloSys. DH and I have been using it for about a week now and WOW! Our teeth and mouth do not feel this clean after a dental cleaning with a hygenist! DH and I were both just amazed after the very first use. Works much better than peroxide ever thought about working.

Time will tell if I get less infections and the root canals at least slow down but, I have a gut feeling that they will :D

Thanks again!

That's awesome, I'm glad it's working for you! I have a feeling you wont be getting any more infections. :)

I don't know if you can find this outside of Israel, but if you can, try "Yameline" which is a gel used both for brushing your teeth and, using a fingertip, massaging gums. It is based on Dead Sea minerals and salts. It has worked wonders for my smoker's gums. I've been using it again for the last couple of days because my bottom teeth roots seem to be aching, maybe from quitting analogs. Seems to be working!

Yes! Dental issues. My teeth have always been great, never a problem, cavity or anything, even with smoking. Now that I've been vaping going on about 7 months, my gums bleed when I brush and they are much more sensitive too. There's this whole morning floss, brush, mouthwash thing I do that takes about 20 minutes and even with that still issues. I'm hoping it has nothing to do with vaping since I love it.

7 months seems like an awfully long time to be dealing with that after quitting. Make sure you get checked out for gingivitis, my teeth looked and felt perfect until I was in my late 20's, but bad things were happening down below, with just a bit of bleeding to signal a problem.

Actually, there were no signs of this until the last few weeks. I'm wondering if my citrus juices I got from Mountain Oak Vapors (Tropical Sunrise, Strawberry, Nirvana) are causing it. They taste pretty acidic and have real juices in them. Hmmm. I would hate to give them up since they're so yummy, but if they're going to mess with teeth, it may not be worth it. I'll switch off them for awhile and see what happens.
