I bought the two different kinds they had at the store and both smell like a mint to me even though they are not marked as such. Are these not usable?

same thing here, bought the supposed non flavored...opened tab pack and it was mint city...wound up using only distilled water and it worked great on both Mini & Triton Tanks.
Mine don't smell like mint - I just bought the generic ones! I don't know.....probably they're ok if you wash out afterwards in very hot water? But not sure on this....perhaps someone else can chime in?
Same here Amanda.I bought some really off brand kind and it has no smell at all. I wait til it's done fizzing and drop everything in for a 30min soak.
make sure to check the ingredients for aromatic oils like peppermint or spearmint. also look for menthol or carvone. sometimes it's labeled on the ingredients list as something more generic like 'aroma'. sometimes citric acid is the mint substitute, but not always. i have seen denture tabs that don't have citric acid in it and they're usually not mint types.

wonder if Non flavored Alka Seltzer would work for cleaning?....any thoughts

Peroxide, while only poisonous in high doses, is still pretty dangerous. You dont want to get any in your mucus membranes or in your stomach.
The general rule of cleaning tanks is to use materials that are safe to consume, in case your rinse isn't as thorough as the chemical bath.
Peroxide is a mean oxidizer, and can lay an insult down like no one's bidness, but it can turn into a real bad day if it gets into your system.

i have heard of gargling with peroxide, i've also heard of what happens when people accidentally swallow rather than spit (i've also seen internet videos, but thats a different topic).
and the peroxide in toothpaste is broken down by fluoride and some by saliva, that and the amount is a very tiny amount. it's all about proportions. using toothpaste with 1.5% peroxide is fine. gargling with 3% peroxide can cause mild irritation. injecting 25% peroxide into your scrotum would be inadvisable.

I used to use alcohol to clean my coils and tanks. Then just did a hot rinse. But overtime, they were not getting as clean as they could.
Someone told me to use the denture tabs and OMG, it works awesome.
I have been using them for over a year now.
My coils last longer and get much cleaner too.
Just don't use mint.
I use Efferdent, the blue box. It the original formula.
I rinse everything real well, I put everything in a Tupperware container, then drop in the tablet.
I let it all soak for about 30-45 minutes.
Then I do another thorough hot water rinse.
I then soak just the coils again in just hot water for a few minutes to make sure it is all out of the wicks.
Everything comes out looking almost new again. The wicks are just as white as if new
The best thing since Apple pie in my eyes.
Doing this on my coils gets me a good 6 weeks plus out of them.

I've been using denture tabs for 3 years to clean my attys. (my attys are the old fashioned "disposable" ones)
I use the walmart brand (equate), antibacterial with baking soda. although the box doesn't say anything about mint, they do have a very slight minty taste the first few hits, but it goes away quickly.
I use distilled water, put in the attys and then drop in the tablet and let sit awhile, then rinse in hot water and let dry.
I only clean my attys when they feel like they are about to die, cleaning is my last resort before throwing them away, although cleaning usually helps them live a while longer

When you all use the denture tabs, do you put everything in and soak or just the coil head and wicks?
