First Post ... Been vaping about 2 months and about a week ago received my Reo Mini, which is fantastic. This is living. No more sticky fingers, almost. The first 2 days with the Mini were absolutely horrible. I HATE the taste of a burnt wick (plastic), but after 2 days of "learning", finally got the hang of it, almost. Anyway, during the learning period and total frustration, I read some ECF posts on dewicking attys and tried it on a new Cisco LR510. Took out all the wick under the bridge and still saw more wick further down. So I took out the bridge in order to see everything. The second wick goes thru the center of the heating coils with little if any sticking out each end and seems near impossible to remove without destroying the coil. I haven't found anything in ECF on how to remove it. Has anyone successfully removed it? If so, how? Is it the main cause of the burnt taste? I know I'm supposed to always keep the atty wet, but sometimes I forget and ugh ... bad, bad taste that lingers too.

Love vaping and love ECF. I'm down to 1 or 2 analogs a day from a pack a day. After 50 some years of smoking, I'm really proud of myself. All you veterans that so "willingly" answer the newbies posts are just awesome. You do a great job. There'll be a little extra in your pay. :)

when i dewick i usually leave that extra lil bit in there because it will help from leaking to bad....in my experiance anyways but i do know you can get it out without destraying the atty, cant remember off the top of my head but try searching in the modders threads a bit more andim sure there a vid on it..i remember watching it but dont have the link right off hand, good luck and happy vaping!-)

Welcome new Reonaut. There are people who dewick, and swear by it, and those who don't. I'm in the second group. Once you get some more experience keeping the atty at just the right amount of wetness you will be able to not get any burnt taste. It just takes some practice.

Congratulations on cutting down on cigarettes. People usually don't believe when we tell smokers how painless it can be to quit smoking by vaping.

Don't beat yourself up for having an occasional analog. It's not how many you smoke but how many you don't smoke.

You definitely do NOT want to remove the wick from the center of the coil. It is what supplies your coil with juice.
I dewicked a Joye 306 and it cut my vapor production by 50%, which makes sense when you think about it. Without the wick, the coil isn't getting the juice that it used to. I'm not sure how people are getting good results by doing this. Maybe its only with a certain atty manufacture?

The burnt taste you are getting isn't the wick actually burning. They can withstand much higher temperatures than your coil can produce. The burnt taste is coming from that last bit of juice on your coil that burns and turns to ash. You just need to give your atty some more juice.

Thanks everyone.

Webb: The only vid I found was taking out the wick above the coils, but it's not a priority.

mlinky: Once my post count is up, I plan on getting into the Reo Mods forum. Might even make a pest of myself.

Alice: I carry analogs all the time. It's still scary without them. You're absolutely right "It's not how ... you don't smoke.

Gru: I didn,t know it's not the wick. So, I'll leave it alone. Can't get it out anyway. Gotta keep telling myself to keep it wet, stupid.

This beginning vaping experience is insane, lol. First was Blu cigs and a fresh batt every hour. Then came a Riva 901 with carts and sticky fingers. Then the Riva with dripping and sticky fingers. Now the Reo Mini with choice of batt (IMR's not available), choice of atty (vendor, mfg & ohms), choice of tip and worst of all, choice of liquid (vendor, size, nic, mixture and flavor). So many choices and combinations, it can drive a person nuts. The reason I say it's insane is that I fit right in. I'm enjoying all of it. My kids are saying dad has a new hobby. My wife is saying her husband is always on his walky talky (Reo Mini). I'm saying I found a new buddy and one of these days I'll make friends with his/her/its big brother (Grand).

I wonder if anyone has ever found the end of the rainbow ... the perfect vape. I kind of doubt it. I think in a few years I'll look back and and say the ride was fun, but there's a lot more fun to come.

LOL, Ted, if you just answered each of us separately, you'd have your 5 posts. You won't be considered a pest on the REO forum. I promise. We are just a bunch of people hanging out who enjoy our REOs and each other. You're part of the family now. :)

Some people swear by dewicking, even doing so with brand new atties. Personally I have had no good experiences with dewicking and totally agree with Gru. Sometimes I will try it when an atty is so gunked up a good boil in baking soda water won't clean it as a last resort resurrection, but most times I'll just pop in a new atty when it comes to that...

5 Posts? Duh! You folks are going to have a ball with me on the Reo forum. I have a pass to do dumb things ... I'm Polish. When I do dumb things with people around, my (Italian) wife says, "Don't mind Ted, he's Polish" and oddly enough everyone understands and return to whatever they were doing. Strange, isn't it?

I don't have the rhythm of hitting the feeder yet. I think this is going to take time to where it becomes instinctive. A lot of time ... i just got a mouth full of bad taste. I did learn the hard way, that if I get a mouth full of bad taste, don't inhale it. For me, that's significant progress. The fun is only beginning.

I've been messing with a wicked and dewicked atty (same mfg & ohms). I don't taste or see any difference. I just swallow more juice with the dewicked one. The juice has a straight path to my mouth. I've noticed that there are many, many different vids on cleaning attys. Everyone has their own method that they think works the best. I want something that's quick, easy and effective enough to do a good job and possibly extend it's life. So, I'm going to experiment. Good grief! Hope I don't blow up the house with anyone in it, including me. This may be my last post.

Welcome, Ted! Another REOnaut here....welcome to the family! It does take a *little* getting used to (the when to hit the juice bottle) but not much. It will become instinctive very quickly. And yes...you definitely have a new hobby! Ha. This (vaping) is more addictive than smoking...and a LOT more fun! You are going to fit right in on the REO sub-forum.

Did you ever think in a million years that QUITTING smoking would be this fun????

Hi Jan, I wish it was QUITTING, but just can't let go yet. Went from a PAD to 1 to 3 a day in 7 weeks, awesome. When I started this adventure, I told myself 3 things: 1- I'm going to take it at MY pace. 2- I don't care what the cost is within some kind of reason. 3- I'm going to make this e-cig thing work. I didn't know there would be extra benefits like ECF and the Reo sub-forum, which I think is going to give me a great time and a lot of laughs.

BTW, you say "used to" in your post & signature. I use to say and write "used to" until my wife kept correcting me. But I still slip once in a while and say "used to". I don't know if that's mid-west talk or what. I'm originally from OH. Were you born & raised in OK?

Hey Ted, you are now FREE!! Fly, run like the wind...

Come by the REO Forum, pour yourself a drink, juice your REO, pull up an easy chair, and say hi :) Reos Mods

What you are doing is trying to get the hang of "squonking"; learning how much and how often to press the juice bottle and feed your atomizer. It varies with different atomizers and cartomizers. The Cisco 510 is one of the more forgiving atomizers, but dewicking does change it because it will not hold as much juice without the wick.

REALLY?? Are you certain? I'm stunned. I always thought "used to" was correct.

Ha. Mlinky! I thought it was correct, too! I'm from Okla...born and raised (reared?????) and have said and heard it all my life. Maybe it's a southern thing as well as a midwest thing. :)

A funny: My daddy used to (???) always say he was "fixin' to" do something and my mother constantly corrected him.

Ted, I'll see you on the REO subforum.....

And when I said quitting.....I really meant just getting away from cigarettes. There's no pressure to quit quit until you're ready...if ever. It's just that there was a long time there before finding these e-cigs when I just absolutely knew I could not go even a whole day without a cigarette. When I finally (took awhile...) figured out that I was no longer a slave to cigarettes....that even if I had one it was because I CHOSE to have one.....it just felt like freedom. Even if you always have a few, it's no longer the slave/master relationship that it was before. IMHO anyway.

You're going to be fun to get to know....

Well, Louisville has a mix of midwestern and southern, so it may or may not be southern. But, really, there are so few things that truly surprise me anymore. I still can't believe "used to" isn't correct.

When my wife started correcting me, I couldn't believe it either. I believe it's considered "informal spoken English" like what JC's dad use to say, "fixin' to", but I could be wrong. Not my wife though ... never. If she sees this I'm dead.
