I saw the story and was surprised. I do not watch mainstream media because they thrive on this type of nonsense. However there is a nationwide effort to demonize vaping and I have to wonder if it is led by the control freaks or the makers of things like the patch or maybe even the cigarette companies.

Some doctor was just on Fox news saying that liquid nicotine is a highly dangerous material and the fact that it is sold without regulation is very dangerous. He then went on to say that studies have shown that e-cigs have no effect on helping people quit smoking and in fact it has shown it to be a gateway for teenagers to start smoking. He also said that it was found that e-cigs could be helpful for heavy smokers to quit, almost as effective as the nicotine patch.

I have never heard so much nonsense in my life. I was a heavy 2 pack a day smoker and I quit the day I first vaped. I have read testimonies from countless people with stories similar to mine. Such pathetic scare tactics!

If you read the actual article out of SF it says only 88 people in the study used e cigs and it was not clear if they wanted to quit smoking cigarettes.

www. foxnews .com/health/2014/03/25/e-cigarettes-may-not-help-smokers-quit-says-study/

Siegals response cited in this article is certainly different that what he "spewed" on the cable network report. I went to Fox's website to send them a message about my disgust with this fit of journalistic malpractice and could not find the story.

This is exactly right. The piece while disturbing in the sense of making it a prescription (which would actually save me some money :) .... isn't as negative as his earlier pieces. He includes statements from others:

“Cigarette smokers don't just need nicotine, they need to feel like they're smoking, and that is why e-cigarettes are so effective. You cannot vape or puff or inhale a patch. You cannot inhale a gum. you cannot puff out a nice cloud with the gum or the patch.”

And his own - 'positive, but'... type stuff:

"Are e-cigarettes safe? They are certainly safer than traditional cigarettes, which contain over 4,000 toxins. E-cigarettes, by comparison, have propylene glycol in their vapor, which has not been proven harmful to human health but needs to be further studied."

I think it shows his views may be changing - although I still don't trust him. I threw in a comment with a link to the other Dr. Siegel....

I don't think either side is immune to the push ..

ATR Opposes Governor Christie

Yeah, Christie's middle name is spelled R I N O

Clear-headed reasoning from the Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) piece you linked:

[h=2]ATR Opposes Governor Christie’s Proposed Tax Hikes on Small Businesses and E-Cigarettes[/h]
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie recently presented his budget recommendations to the legislature for the next fiscal year. Though the proposal holds the line on most significant taxes, it does contain a number of tax law changes that would result in higher taxes on small businesses and consumers.
The first misguided budget recommendation is to tax vapor products like e-cigarettes and e-liquid on the same basis as traditional cigarettes, which are currently taxed at $2.70 per pack. Small businesses like convenience stores and especially brick and mortar vape shops will be hardest hit by this $35 million tax increase. This is particularly troubling in a time of tepid economic growth and in light of the 20 new and higher federal taxes that have been imposed by Congress in the last few years.
Taking aim at e-cigarettes works at cross-purposes with efforts to cut down on the harm associated with smoking. A number of studies have shown that electronic cigarettes stand to improve health and prevent disease. By choosing to “vape” e-cigs instead of smoking traditional tobacco, consumers get their nicotine fix without the combustion and smoke, which are responsible for many of the negative health effects of tobacco cigarettes.
The imposition of new taxes on innovative products that reduce smoking and people’s dependence on tobacco cigarettes is misguided and will impede proven harm reduction methods.

Gutfeld hit the 'poison' stupidity hard last night. No video... yet..... I wish Fox would change Dr. Siegels :) He's been about the sole source of negativity on Fox.

Maybe they thought they were getting 'our' Dr. (Michael) Siegel... back in '08 wasn't he quite the tobacco control expert, all about SHS?

And today's he's a leading voice of reason against his old mentor, and tsunami of lies & propaganda he spews across the land.

I've been keeping up with the thread. Wasn't excusing either party, just pointing out big pharma is as controlling in New Jersey as coal in West Virgina, tourism in Florida, silicon valley in Calif or tobacco in Virginia.....we each have our cross to bear.

Apologies .. my only point is neither party is particularly to blame for the rash of proposed legislation we have seen unfold over the last year ..

We're all in this together .. :) as far as PV use goes .. I'm against anyone that's against it ..

Only the libertarians or libertarian leaning types from either major party are on our side. That won't change.

This thread is a prime example of why I do watch FOX news.

You can always tell how effective something is by the noise level of its opponents. Just as BT and BP are raising hell over eCigs and vaping to protect their industries, the government is screaming about their inability to get FOX to toe the line and become as docile and ineffective as the other news agencies.

Every time I hear criticism of FOX, I have to go run and turn it on to see what has the establishment all up in arms. Hehe. I love watching them raise hell. :D

Some studies say....... I can't believe that people can continue to use this lead in and no one calls them on it. It does not matter what the topic. Add the others "It has been reported"...."There have been rumors"......."Statistics show"........on and on. News reporting is now corporate controlled and ratings driven. Reporting the facts are a coincidence if it occurs at all. Has anyone heard of some plane that may or may not have crashed?

There are two Siegels!

The live segment was with the Fox's I play a doctor on TV, Marc.

The online article (NOT the article from last year, but today's) quoted Siegel the Good, aka Michael. :thumb:

A pdf player roster will be posted shortly

And it was Marc who authored the trash piece last year (upon release of the original CDC survey, and their garbage presser)

It beats having to do actual research, find facts, develop a fleshed out story....

p.s. The plane was captured by alien spacecraft....I heard it on the "news"....:facepalm:

And 'just like "Lost" the tv series'.... and 'black hole' (CNN anchor woman). Also global warming is responsible for them not finding any remains. (Mother Jones).

Ratings always drove media. What has changed is which shows WE tune into. IMO when we trash phonics and math and logic in schools, this is what we get a generation later. Montessori and like things are the only fix I can think of, but then we have to wait a generation.....

Or we vapers can try to learn how the media listens and thinks. Well, we need two more words for what they actually do but we need to learn.

I think Volcano had it right when they did the beach cigarette-.... cleanups. Nice visual, it was recurring so they could cover it one time if the previous cleanup conflicted with actual news, nice sound bites. We need to get 1000 70-year-old vapers out somewhere saying "we're the target age group" and get cig cleanups going in other places.

If news reporting content was coincidence, we would not be losing this badly. Knowing how to get to them, and get their attention, is an art/science combination, like Special Education, and our enemies are spending money learning that art.

The unfounded and unsupported attacks now contain any and all of the following:

By-standing smoke (vapor?) is harmful (Oh my it MUST contain at least some deadly nicotine!)
There are harmful chemicals in liquid (Pick any you think will be shocking. Everything has some level of contamination by something!)
Studies have said...... (Studies never identified nor validated)
E-Liquid poisons children (Yup so does just about everything around the house) (By the way what's in that Baby food anyway?)
Leads to smoking (Huh?) (Going from a nice tasting and flavored device to a putrid foul tasting one is only logical)
Not FDA approved (Yup once the FDA approves something it's OK. Let me tell about the bad stuff FDA approved recalled daily)
Flavors are enticing to children (I have noticed ONLY children like stuff that tastes good)
The long term effects are not known (What about the long term effects of bad things that are known and approved by the FDA?)
People should just quit nicotine (Indeed and fat and sugar and.....(Tofu, sticks, and twigs for everyone!))
Nicotine is an addictive drug. (Shall we examine all the "addictive" drugs consumed everyday considered "acceptable")

If you tell a lie long enough and loud enough people will not only believe anything but not ever question anything. Welcome to the brave new world (Order?).

Gee I wonder if any studies have been studied for radioactivity? If not why not? Kind of makes me question my plan to introduce Fukushima brand E-Liquid.

This issue goes far beyond E-Cigs. Perhaps we will start standing up for our rights in general and not just those that apply to our needs and desires. Divide and conquer seems to be working well.
