Went to put up Christmas tree yesterday and when I opened the tote it was in, I just about gagged to death. The stench of stale smoke was overwhelming. Needless to say, my tree and all my decorations reek of old smoke. It's amazing how that smell doesn't bother us while we're smoking but quit, even if just for a little bit, and that smell is one of the worst smells. I'm hoping that airing the stuff out will be enough to get rid of stench. I may try getting some air freshener, a nice Christmas sent, and spraying the tree down. Uhg, I can't believe I walked around smelling like that. Thank goodness for my e-cigarette :)

It is crazy...I feel hyper-sensitive to it now after a year smoke free. I instantly can tell who the smokers are when I really could only tell when I was a smoker if I got really close, now if they just walk by me at a distance or especially when they walk into my house, it engulfs the whole room. Another thing I always get is when I'm behind someone in my car whom is smoking and it travels into my air intake and into my cabin.
It makes me feel really stupid in retrospect looking back when I used to try and sneak them (when I was telling people I quit), swapping shirts and eating wads of gum, grassing my fingers (haha) thinking I was being tricky....it was just my loved ones keeping their mouths shut. Now I'm loud and proud when I vape around my family and its great now at holiday functions that I'm not the smelly guy walking back into the room. Liberating!!!!!

Un -stinking the tree -Get some charcoal make sure its the kind that is NOT presoaked in lighter fluid. Hang a couple tucked deep inside the tree where they can't be seen. Or if it fits with the theme of the tree, knock off the corners a bit, use some red ribbon and hang as lumps of coal. When you store it, put a few pieces nestled in the tote. Wrap them in a piece of vapor towel.

Un- stinking the car - Put a couple of chunks of charcoal under the front seats of the car. Use a shallow cardboard try to keep it from marking the carpet.

I am going out of town this weekend and pulled out the suitcase to find the same thing. I never smoked in the house but I guess my clothes (even clean ones) smelled enough like smoke to make my suitcase reek. We put some Downy sheets in there and are waiting to pack when we get home from work tonight in hope that it clears up a bit. Oddly, I do not notice any smell in my closet or anywhere else besides my vehicle. And, of course, on current smokers.

I went to the store last night and I was amazed at how easy it was to identify smokers from more than 10 feet away. One family I could smell at the opposite end of the aisle. It disgusts me more than a little bit to know that I used to smell the same way.

I'm also surprised at how stubborn that smell is. It took about three washes with extra fabric softener to get my clothes to a point where there is no trace of the smoke smell. Here I always thought that I wouldn't smell fresh out of the shower with clean clothes on.
