I don't even remember the ads. All the cool kids were smokin', and that's all the influence I needed. I wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer at 17... or was it 16?... somewhere around there.

Now, as for liquor -- I was enormously influenced by the ads. Thankfully (for me), none of that stuff tasted anywhere near as cool as it looked in the adverts. So that's one habit I didn't abuse.

I started smoking as a teenager. My parents smoked,my older brother smoked. My friends smoked and my boyfriend smoked. I was surrounded by smokers. I wanted to know what this smoking was all about. Since everyone that I was around smoked.
The ads on TV at that time had nothing to do with it. If I had not been around all this,I most likely would not had smoked.

Nah, I smoked because I wasn't supposed to and because it was bad. Breaking the rules kinda thing. I guess that's why all of the anti-smoking rhetoric never worked for me. I don't like people (especially the government) to tell me what to do.

Ads might have made me try a different brand but didn't influence me to smoke.

DING DING DING, you got it. Hit the nail right on the head there lesliea.
