I smoked for about 2 years in college and then quit until I was 27. My husband had picked up cigar smoking and I couldn't not inhale so I started smoking to keep him company. I've been smoking, on average, about a pack every 2 weeks- social smoking- until I discovered vaping. First I tried with V4L- very unsatisfactory. But I haven't smoked in 2 months since trying out these great new VV/VW mods. Very satisfying indeed! But I vape more than I ever smoked.

I started smoking right around 13-14. We used to get them from friend's parents, because my parents had already quit when I was young. Hard to believe I've smoked for like half my life. Sad to think about. Well it's been 6 weeks today since I received my first kit and quit smoking! It feels great!

I didn't start smoking till 19, when I was in the USAF. At the time, (drinking underage was very risky, but I could buy smokes anywhere), it was one of the only "outlets" available to me in a stressful environment.

So, I spent most of 16 yrs as a smoker. So glad that those days are done.

Was that during Viet Nam? I mean at age 18 you can die in war but you cannot drink..in case you????????????????????

I don't mean to be political, but....................................

No, I served from '96-'02. When I started smoking, I was attending the Defense Language Institute in Monterey. Since I had gone there straight from Basic Training, the military only gradually returned my privileges. So, going to town and finding a way to drink was a no-go for quite awhile. However, cigs were in any/every PX, and many other service members smoked, so taking it up was a good excuse to get out of the classroom every so often and socialize outside over a ..... And, of course, it was actually enjoyable and cheap for me back then.

Anyway, I do agree that there's something basically wrong with the fact that people can enlist in the military, be held to full account as an adult for any crimes committed, and enter into legal, binding contracts at 18, yet are somehow not considered mature enough for alcohol. It's ridiculous.

I started at 21, while in the USAF. I was trapped in a stressful position for at least another year, and the smokers got to take extra breaks (the Chief was a smoker.) I'd occasionally go out with them just to get away from the crap for a few minutes, and caught flack for it because I did not smoke. So, I started having a smoke when I did it...

My friends at home had been smoking since their teens, but I dared not partake in that while I was under my parent's control. After finishing my service term, I found myself going out with them to drink and such, leading to more smoking, which solidified the habit. That was 22 years ago, and I still have not kicked the smokes, completely.

Let's hope between vaping and this support community you can kick or cut down like so many have...:)
