I started around age 15, my dad smoked and I wanted to be like him. I also look up to celebrities like Bogart, John Wayne and other who I saw smoking as I grew up. I still think it looks cool to see old movies with people smoking. Such a shame it has so many health issues or I would have never quit myself. Strange I know, but something about it just seems so natural to light one up. I do wish I would have never started though, who knows what damage I've already done to myself and others.

I started 5 years ago when I was 15. Most of my friends at the time smoked tobacco and other recreational smokeables. One day, I got curious. Tried it. Didn't like it that much, but kept going. I loved the effects of nicotine. Then all of a sudden, I started loving the taste of tobacco. I still do, but I'm not so fond of the fact that I get winded easily, or that I might end up with emphysema.

The voice of youth, hang in there, seriously dint stop breathing now.

OK, quick,
It was 1970 I think. I was hanging with the local kids at the baseball diamond when they passed around a pack of Marlboro reds. I smoked one, I was so proud. I smoked another, I got so sick, I sat down on the curb for an hour and fought off tossing my cookies.
I never liked smoking, it liked me.
At 15 I fell in for good.

Tried them out when i was 10 but i dont think it became a everyday thing till i was 13 or 14 when the hormones kicked in. My thought was the chicks would think i was awesome and throw them selfs at me. But even when that didn't happen i kept smoking for some odd reason. But history repeats itself i could have just quit smoking but now I think, I will vape because the chicks will dig it.

When I was eight, my father threw a viceroy into his mouth and lit up and I asked," Whats that taste like?"

He took the cig out of his mouth and handed it to me. I had a few drags and handed it back...but from then on, I would sneak a cigarette from his pack every now and then when he fell asleep in his easy chair. By the time I was twelve I would get a pack of marlboro from the corner store about once every two weeks. By sixteen a pack a day. By twenty one, a pack and a half a day. At 41, I switched to e cigs.

Wow, that makes me sad. He didn't have any idea what he was doing.

My mother told me that when she went to the Dr to confirm she was pregnant, he was smoking a cigar in the exam room when he told her ( and I swear this is what she claims he said ) ," Yeah honey, someones been here before me, youre pregnant."

My father then smoked on the drive home ( bringing me home for the first time ) while my mother held me on her lap in the front seat with no one wearing a seat belt.

It certainly was a different time.

It sure was a different time. I remember my mom handing my sister and I a quarter to go buy her a pack of smokes and I was only about 4 years old at the time. My sister and I would stand there arguing with our mom trying to tell her she doesn't need them. We'd keep it up not because we really meant it, it was because we knew if we held out long enough, she'd throw in a nickle so we could buy penny candy! That was way before I knew what a nic fit was.... Sorry I put you through that hell mom! LOL

I remember the note from mom, oh yeah, like any one cared. At 12 or so I bought 2 packs out of the vending machine at the corner gas station, where 2 guys were intently watching me drop 35 cents a piece for them. They lasted close to a year, I hated them so bad, but I wasnt going to be a puss. I never got carded once during those early years.
