Difference in Batteries?

I'm making progress into my vaping journey and recently, my other half got a freebie from FastTech (1 cent, but whatever, I threw a penny at her and said "YOINK!") and it happened to be a Sigelei mechanical mod. It's pretty neat, vent holes at the bottom, real solid and a smooth switch at the bottom that locks. Now onto my question: Is there a difference between batteries that you would use for sub-ohm vaping and vaping above sub-ohm? I know that I'm supposed to get IMR batteries, and this mod looks like it will only take a battery the size of an 18650.

I've been Youtubing my brains out on battery safety, and I've been hitting the internet all over for battery safety as well. I'm pretty well caught up to speed on what NOT to do. My only question that hasn't been answered (aside from the one above) is, how will I know when to change a battery out? I've seen allusions to the fact that if you use a battery beyond a certain point, it's not good for the battery. I don't know if that means the battery won't charge right, or if it'll start venting.

Any tips on a good brand to get started?

Disclaimer: Before anyone says I'm mean, she said I could have it before I 'gave' her the penny and 'accepted' the mech mod ;)

3 links to get you started. some touch other points beyond battery safety, but you will learn a lot.
1. look at Baditude's blog.
2. read this thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...op-reference-shop-new-experienced-vapers.html
3. read this thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-discussion-safety-battery-info-warnings.html
4. read more :)

Thanks! This should help immensely! I'm not really looking to start with sub-ohm vaping, but given that my first coils are probably not going to be in my ideal range, I might as well 'try' it a little before starting over lol

Yes, use only IMR high-drain, safe-chemistry batteries. If using resistances 1 ohm or higher, any 10 amp IMR battery will suffice. If using sub-ohm you want a 30 amp battery.

Over discharging a battery will either drain the battery beyond recovery, or cause it to go into thermal runaway (battery meltdown). Invest in an inline voltmeter or digital multimeter and periodically check the battery voltage until you can recognize by the vape quality of when to change batteries.

You can't go wrong with an AW IMR battery. For a 30 amp battery I recommend the Sony batteries.

I have a digital multimeter that measures ohms for when I build my coils, is that the same thing? Or am I looking for a device that has the two wires with metal tips on the end?

Did you click the links that I provided? You can't test your battery voltage with a box ohm reader. You can check the voltage with an inline voltmeter or a digital multimeter with the two prongs.

Replace your batteries when they drain to 3.5 volts.

I meant to edit but I didn't get here in time, I figured it out lol Sorry! It'll be easier for me to go and get a volt meter from Wally World on the way home from work tomorrow morning. I should be all set after that! (and some batteries that I'm currently shopping around on)
