So I'm vacationing in Las Vegas, and ended up swooping on a Maraxus mod with a Nimbus Atty. Does anyone know the differences between the real and the clone maraxus?

I've heard with some of the clones (not the fasttech mystery meat), it's crazy spot on.

Someone told me if you took an authentic, and a clone, and mixed and matched the parts blindfolded; you'd never be able to differentiate and re-assemble the authentic 100% again.

Hearing this makes the Maraxus one of the sadder clone stories. It makes me wonder if the thing was manufactured in China in the first place, and it prevents me from ever really trusting to buy an "authentic."

Most cloners buy a legit piece and set up the equipment to the exact specs.

Same tools, same equipment, same basic materials.
The difference is labor costs and QC.
You'll find the differences are in the tiny details.
Machines threads, better grades of brass or steel.
Many many clones are spot on as far as size specs and aesthetics.
Some offer performance in line with the originals.

The Maraxus clones have gold plated parts.
Low end gold plating will wear off fast.
That's a deal breaker for many.
I doubt the original has these issues.

Why do you always have to use negative FT connotations?
I've Seen the originals of the Nemesis and The Maraxus
I own the FT Clones of Both - 1 Maraxus - 5 Nemesis
They are All Excellent devices producing smooth consistent power and Are Extremely close to the originals in design.

I can tell the Op - the Bottom Cap should have a Gear, Pyramid and Serial #............Unless the McDonalds + Smile is new.

FT Clone, the Serial # is inverted - otherwise they look identical

Calling a Spade a Spade.

You never know what your getting with fasttech, because they deal with any given number of different suppliers for the same item.

Order a Nemesis one month, and two months later they're selling a batch sourced from elsewhere.

I ordered an RDA once, and then 3 months later ordered another one to drill out for my Reo. Same page, same exact item# and pictures, same price. Different posts and deck. (one was concave, one wasn't)

Fact.

Might want to do a bit more research.
Rarely does one product replace another with the same SKU unless it is a Manufacturers In house change.
They even anotate - Not from same manufacturer if acquired elsewhere.

Also same goes for purchasing - Research first. Never know? I always know.
Almost 2K in purchases and Not one item was different than I expected.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.
At least you are not pointing to Ebay and saying buy this instead, when it is the Exact Same item, like some here have done.

Good to know You have Certain pieces you can directly advise on. Will be helpful when needed.:)

I can vouch for "cheap gold plating wears off"

the plating on my main tube has already worn off, and it's been less than a week. Looking to find a replacement with higher-grade brass, no plating.
If I did replace the main tube, would that alter the conduction profile of the circuit?

i doubt it would be pretty, if its a clone sometimes they use lower quality materials not always but sometimes if the finish starts to wear off id say why not but if its fine now Id leave it. Im also not sure if the layer of nickel and copper has anything to do with the conductivity, I tested my clone and the voltage drop is .2 if the finish starts to wear off on mine i might try it out and see what the difference is. COuld be a while though lol I may have to order another one just for this experiment haha Oh darn you ecf for making me spend more and more on curiosity lol

$ 135 bucks difference?

Nope.
Which is why I haven't dropped the cash for a real one.
Example:
Legit King-$230+
FT King clone-$23

The real one is better made, but not ten times better.
The threads interchange. They are 1:1 except for the copper pins ( clones have silver plated brass).

Same brass, same equipment to manufacture.
Difference is labor/profit/quality control.
Out of ten mods, you will find flaws in the clones.
Not so much with the legit gear.

All I know is that I love my Maraxus. I like how sturdy it is, I like the floating pins, and I like the recessed firing button. It doesn't seem like one made any different could really be all that much better functionally. Plating wearing off is one thing, but plenty of reputable clones out there don't have that issue. Part of the reason I avoid FT.

Gold plating easily wears off of everything. It has nothing to do with clones or fast tech.
The only clones without that "issue" are solid brass. Know what you are buying. Do some research first.

Gold plating wears on anything...period. I have worked as a part time jeweler for the past two years. Even to "high end" plated jewelry we sell that is plated wears off. Can't believe how many upset customers we have about that, and when I see them I tell them specifically that plated jewelry wears quick, depending on the saltiness/acidity of your skin, if you are wearing it in the shower, etc. Fold isn't known to be the most durable metal out there despite its reverence may suggest, gold is a fairly weak metal. Now solid good may be one thing, but even then it can have its own set of issues.

Sure, but in less than a week?

And TBPH for some reason it is now misfiring A LOT. Was fine at first, great. Now not so much. Is there something I can do to fix this; is getting to the point where I'm expecting it to NOT fire.

:(
Yes. Clean and check every connection.
Dirt and corrosion build up resistance and can cause misfires.
Buttons loosen.
Make sure everything is right and shiny like a new penny.

99% of all problems with mechs are due to dirty or loose contacts/hardware.
