I'm switching from cigarettes to vaping next week. I've got another post that I'm treating like a diary of my transition with all my various thoughts and experiences, but I've been thinking about this, and believe it should be out there on it's own...

I've been evaluating myself and my smoking habits - (which it seems like a lot of people have done, but I haven't seen anyone actually recommend. I would think that'd be one of the FIRST things a transition-er should do.) Among my findings are that my usual smoke averages 25 puffs, and lasts about 10 mins.

SO:

Current self at work- "I'm gonna have a smoke." - I go outside and fire up a smoke. I'm outside; I'm watching the birds; and the clouds; checking out the neighbors, etc. I take around 25 puffs in around 10 minutes. "Oh, cigarette's done, time to go back inside."

vaping self at work- "I'm gonna vape" - I go outside and draw on my PV. I'm outside; I'm watching the birds; and the clouds; checking out the neighbors, etc... Ummmm?

Current self at home- "Me smoke!" - Light cigarette. Smoke cigarette. Cigarette gets to the end, "Me done."

vaping self at home- "Me Vape!" - Plug in my pass-through. Vape. Ummmm?

The thinking on this is that analogues have a beginning, middle, and end. An e-cig, not so much. So what's that part of the transition like for people?

Do most new vapers treat it like they used to treat cigs- puffing away for several minutes every hour or so? (depending on prior habits) Did that cause problems? (overloading on nicotine, 5 min break becomes 20 min because you no longer have a 'timer', etc) Is there something about vaping that made you change your puffing habits? What's your puffing habit now? And .vs when you used to smoke analogues?

Hi
you will know when to stop puffing on them. The nice thing is about ecigs is you dont feel like you have to finish it all in 5 minutes like you do analogs. You wouldnt want to waste an anolog but with ecig you can do as much as as little as you feel like. =)

That makes perfect sense for me, putting it that way. I know I, probably like many others, have gone throught that last frantic 5 puffs on a cigarette thinking, "Man, I don't really want this, .... [sic], it's too short to save, and I don't want to waste it..."

Which endorses the "internal timer" mentioned.

Glad your getting your ecig. It will be the best thing you ever did. You wont look back at all the things that are bad about analogs except that youre glad you got off of them. No more smelling like smoke, etc. no fires, ashtrays, mortgaging the house to pay for the habit, breathing better, etc.. lol . I was a heavy smoker for 40 years and I never went back to analogs the day i got my first ecig. good luck to you too on stopping anaolgs altogether. youll feel better for sure!

Been browsing, and didn't want to hijack another thread when this thought came to mind...

What about "French" inhaling? (Where one draws the smoke/vapor into their mouth and then expels it while inhaling through their nose) Had a girlfriend who would go crazy for that... but that's another thread.

It came to mind reading various posts regarding 'too strong/coughing', or 'weak flavor/not enough hit' posts.

For me, nearly any smoke is fairly bland just through the mouth & back, but pull a 'fresh' hit through the nose and it's a trip to flavour-town.

Any thoughts from those in the know?

This question is sort of a big can of worms.

Smoking these things just like a cigarette presents a whole set of issues.
The main issue being that the current wicking technology can not keep up very well.

That is why everyone is trying different filler materials.
And that is why many people turn to dripping or dipping.

I have my method that actually works very well for me, with the factory filler.
I am happy, and not looking any further for other solutions at this time.

But on the other hand, I have found my "cigarette breaks" are now very much open ended.
I can be out there for 15 or 20 minutes sometimes, just enjoying the heck out of life.

Dripping, or better yet dipping, is a good way to get a "normal" cigarettes worth.
It gives you an ending point if you feel you need one.

uh, yeah. I think my dh thinks I'm a loon. I've been pretty much vaping non-stop. I put it down when I need to do something, then the second I sit back down, I pick it up again. I might take 1 puff, or 20, then pause, get absorbed in tv, or whatever, then puff some more.

I'm ovbiously very new to vaping, but I'm not seeing too big of a problem with this continual method.. I've been without an analog for 21 hours, and am fine so far- no overdosing, and no nic-fits.

You'll get your own rhythm down pretty quickly. I vaped like mad at first too. Now, it kind of depends on what I'm doing. I vape more when sitting at the keyboard like this, If I'm typing, I'll take a couple of drags, and then set it down, type a little more, and set it down again. If I'm watching t.v., then I probably hold it for about the amount of time that it would take to smoke an analog.

I usually find myself taking 2 drags at a time, even with my pen-style. The second drag goes in my mouth as the first one is going out my nose. I never smoked analogs like that. Also, I vape less when I mix up a stronger DIY-juice-of-the-day.
