Different resistance coils for different juices? (and a question about air hole / throat hit)

Hey everybody. Long time no talk. Been working myself into the ground in, coincidentally, an area where neither satellite nor cell internet works. I'm working on that problem. Hope everyone has been well.

I have been going back and forth between coils in the .7 - 1.5 ohm range. I pretty much exclusively vape Boba's and Pluid and am finding that a 1.5 ohm 30g micro coil works really well with Boba's, and that Pluid requires a much lower resistance coil - in my case, a .7-.75 micro with 27g. I can get decent vapor from a 1.5 with the Pluid, but the flavor straight up sucks. I don't know if it has to do with the sweetness or what, but I love Pluid, and with the higher resistance coil, it just tastes weird and really muted. Not so with the Boba's for some reason. I find this odd because Boba's is so much more of a mellow flavor profile.

I also have a question about throat hit. I have been hesitant to drill out my Chalice because, well, it was crazy expensive and the thought of getting the hole too big is a bit scary. I opened it up just a bit, but it is still too tight. Flavor is good with the small hole, but the throat hit is reckless. Does opening up the airhole chill the throat hit out any? I don't remember what effect opening up the airholes on my RM2s had, since I did them both several months ago and haven't looked back.

Sorry for the potpourri thread. ;)

With my RM2 I took a pocket knife and spun it around the air hole a few times to shave off little by little to get the draw to my liking. The brass cap on the RM2 is such a thin metal that you can shave it w/ the knife, I'm not sure if the Chalice is the same or not. Opening up the air hole changes the draw and airy-ness of the hit.

What I have found to have the most effect on TH is the placement of the coil. Specifically, dropping the coil down close to the deck reduces TH.

Yeah Christian, drilling the chalice is fun bro. Solid, thick SS right at thread level. I drilled the 3 I've had to 1/16".

It'll turn away some perspective buyers too if you ever go to sell it, but there's always others who don't care. The same dude bought both of the ones I sold several months apart :)

I run my coil very low in the bowl to minimize TH.

I've experimented with rotating the cap to both reposition and raise the hole, but I found I could get a good vape with the default location and low coil :)

I don't buy juices online, and I'm sure you know this, but in case you don't, the VG/PG percentages effect throat hit as well. VG gives more vapor, while PG gives throat hit. So if your Bobas is, say, 80/20, and your Pluid is 60/40, the two vaped on the same coil will be vastly different.

Also, as others have said, coil placement is imperative. The more air that is able to pass under the coil, the harder the throat hit will be. I enjoy a hard throat hit, and I use 80/20 or 90/10, so to compensate my coil usually sits pretty high up in my atty. Hope this helps.
