Do some research and check the stickies as well as youtube. There are alot of great models out there that work to varying degrees. Find a few your interested in and research the hell out of them for a couple days.

Once you have decided on a particular model research the hell out of vendors that supply those models and buy once you feel confterable.

Stay clear of auto switch and two piece devices!!! Save yourself disappointment and only get a manual PV (personal vaporizer). There are now two manuals that look somewhat like the real thing, the Joye 510 and the MANUAL (not plain) DSE901. Then there are the "pereimere" PV's that many of us have moved to that give you 7-8 hours on a battery charge, great throat hit and batteries that only cost $2. Here are some sites to look at:

The Big Six in Long Battery Life Manual Switch PV’s (Premiere):

Screwdriver: ecigscrewdriver.com
The Black Screwdriver Kit / Totally Wicked eLiquid / Electronic Cigarette e-liquid shop
Prodigy: PureSmoker.com - Home of the USA Built PV !!!
GG: THE GG
JantyStick: Janty USA
LV/ZiMoshi:Personal Vaporizers : Hardass Vapor Shop
Super T: Super T, Innovative manufacturer of Personal Vaporizer products.

Several Joye 510 Suppliers & Manual DSE901 suppliers:

I don't completely agree with wv2win about auto switch and two piece devices.

As for the switch: I love the large-button switch on my Prodigy, but I hated the teeny-tiny button on the manual switch version of my 801. It would stick and then it got completely stuck in an out of reach position. The 801 auto battery has never done me wrong. Even though I only drip, I've never had a problem.

By two piece, I assume you mean the cartomizers, e.g., KR808D-1 and the more expensive GreenCig. They are simple and easy to use; probably great for a beginner. No muss, no fuss. The carts can get expensive ... and if you refill them, that defeats their advantage. I didn't particularly like the taste (harsh to me) and the vapor was only so so, but many others (including, but not only, Leaford) rave about them.

BTW, wv2win, check out the new Protege at Puresmoker - kind of a cross between the Super-T and the Silver Bullet. Looks neat!

I highly recommend the manual 510 for a first time user. Not only is it a good, reliable device, it also has great performance, and more new users are going to have a positive experience right off the bat. It's not expensive, and with a PCC, it can give you a good, normal day's use. I enjoy mine very much. There is a reason why it is one of the most popular e-cigs around. It works well, and is a very satisfying vape.

Added: I think it's so good, I just recommended it to my own mother and father as their first PV.
