Hi all

Any views appreciated, particularly from UK users who can suggest a device which looks reasonably like a normal cig, but importantly gives reasonable lifespan on batteries/atomisers.

Regards
Mike

I don't know if there are any vendors in the UK that have the KR808D, but you might give that a try! I have the VaporKing from V4L and let me tell you, that really turned things around for me as far as ecigs go. It is very easy and the customer service from V4L is unbelievable! It is a US vendor however. I have ordered some things from Health Cabin which is directly from China, and they have always arrived here to me in the US within a week of ordering so that might be an option for you.

KR808D's are 2 piece units - a battery and a cartomizor (cart and atomizor built in together) The cartomoizors are very easy to refill, and the extra long batteries last about 6 hours. There are some very good refilling videos on the V4L forum that will give you an idea on how to refill etc... and you can also see what people are saying about the KR808D. I happen to think that V4L is the best vendor out there, but there are other vendors out there that carry it. Vapor4Life - e-cigarette-forum.com • The place for electronic cigarette reviews, news and chat

Hang in there, you just need to find what will work for you! Good luck to you! ;)

Hi Minkey,

I just started vaping a week ago. I have a fresh prospective as it were. :)

I have the 510 and love it. I haven't smoked an analog in 8 days. That surprises me because I was expecting this vaping thing to be over hyped like so many other fads. Boy was I wrong. I was hooked after the first puff.

What everyone has said is accurate. I haven't had any failures yet but being an electrical engineer by trade I'm aware of how, why, and the statistical probabilities of the heating elements and batteries failing. So I just bought 3 basic kits for spare parts. I've seen brand new light bulbs fail within seconds of installation. It just happens when dealing with electrical components. A bad solder joint or other minor design deviations will cause the equipment to fail.

I do think the failures you have described seem excessive. Warranty warranty warranty.

The #1 thing that will kill an atty is running it dry. The fluid actually cools the element as the liquid changes state from a liquid to a gas (vapor).

I think that I am so enamored by the device is because I have so much control over my choices. It has become my newest hobby.
(where did I leave that flux capacitor?)

As far as the procedures in using it, I find it no more hassle than when I carried a Zippo lighter.

Hang in there I promise it will be worth the effort.

Cheers

3-Piece units aren't for everyone.

I like to tinker, so I enjoy my batt + att + cart setups.
My wife hates to tinker, so she uses the two piece variety of e-cig.

Personally, I'd say you should have at least ONE cartomizer type of VP, either the Vapor King from Vapor4life http://store.vapor4life.com/, or the Green Smoke http://www.greensmoke.com/. I always have my Green Smoke available if I'm on the road.

The Vapor King has more flavors to choose from, but the Green Smoke (pricey) has a ton more vapor production (though I only like their vanilla and chocolate carts, the others were too harsh for my tastes).

Take it slow working with a 510 setup, and I WOULD STRONGLY suggest getting one of these kits. They're cheap, great flavor and vapor production, and really fun to play with imho. Also, refilling on your own is really cheap.

Your up front costs will definitely be high at first, but once you get the hang of filling your own, the costs will drop significantly.

Learn how to clean/restore atomizers. I use the "crest blue pro mouthwash" method and all of my atomizers still work with weekly cleanings--remember tho, after cleaning it will take a while for them to prime and start producing vapor again. I had to keep dripping solution on them for about 10 minutes.

Minkey,
I am in the US but just wanted to add a welcome to you- This forum is a great place and will help you greatly if you can manage to visit regularly...
Also, some encouragement... It will take a period of time to get used to the change from real cigs to e-cigs... Equipment failure is a rather frustrating thing while trying to determine budget and proper equipment for your specific habit...
I also use the 401, been vaping now just over a month, I still smoke a real cig (analog as named here at ECF) a few times a day... I no longer feel guilty about that because I was 1 1/2 pack to 2 pack a day smoker... the few I still smoke right now is still a great decrease...
Definitely read the "Sticky"'s at the top of the board here- There are 2 of them w/ loads of info and may help you with not only some equipment, suppliers that cater to you, and understanding of difference between carts, liquid, and 2 piece (cartomizer) units, but they will also give you some info on trouble shooting your equipment when you have problems... I hope that a couple of your atty's may just need a quick rinse or what have you and work again...
It can get pricey at first, but hang in the best you can- Many suppliers will stand behind their products. Check out threads on the UK forum, scour the huge list of suppliers towards the end of the forums, and watch for give aways and contests... A great way to get a free unit or liquid... It is worth it in many of them to just try- you could end up w/ a free bottle of liquid or something... & yes, liquid is the way to go... Hope the frustrations end soon for you and this actually helps you fight your addiction and habit... You will definitely start to see the benefits! :D

Hi all

Just a quick note to thank you all for your suggestions and encouragement.

I've read carefully everything that's been said. I think I was getting hung up on atomisers failing, when in reality buying them in bulk, they're still cheaper than a packet of cigs here in the UK, and I was buying one of them EVERY day.

And - whilst I'd just wanted to charge it, put a cartridge in, and "smoke" it - considering liquid top ups, and gadgets such as case/car/USB chargers (and USB pass throughs) all help, and keep the cost down.

What a great bunch you are. I'll stick with it, and trying new models and mods will be good fun. Happy vaping :)

Regards
Mike

Mike,
I'm 59 and I've been with these new things since July, and loving (almost) every minute of it. I was smoking two packs a day. Ech! Wish I had found these when I started smoking those stinky things back in 1965.
Like everyone has told you there is a learning curve to these things, but man are they ever worth it! I'm not one for buying all the newest and the gadgets so my wife and I have saved quite a bit of money since we began back in July, and our health is ssooo much improved it's astounding. Seriously.
Welcome to the vapers. Hang in there. You've got a whole new family on this forum. Knock on the door any time.

I was frustrated at first too with a burnt taste and carts are a hassle. But don't give up. You will find your niche and your favorite. There are so many to choose from out there but I think you are on the right track with the 510 model.

Maybe you might want to look into one of the two piece models. Like the KR808d-1 aka the cartomizer model. They are easy to refill and last a long time. The battery life is almost 5 hours for me and I am a heavy vapor to say the least.

Hi folks, quick update, the electronic cigarette.co.uk will replace my failed Titan atomiser (tho' I have to return it first :(), and meanwhile I'm using up the carts I got with my original supermini.

electronic cigarette.co's sister operation, Totally Wicked, are running a 20% off promotion this week, so I've just ordered a 5 pack of Titan atomisers from them (= to about £3 each) plus a trial TW e-liquid bottle to give topping up a go.

I must say it's more fun than nipping out to the Co-op for a pack of 20 Marlboro at £6 a pop :)

Thanks again for all your suggestions and encouragement.

Regards

Mike

If it's money saving you want then don't listen to me. But if you just want to "vape away" then you may consider the nCig from nJoy. They offer a 1 year warrenty on all parts (cept cartridges). and superior customer service. plus you can get the pre filled cartridges at most truck stops or online. I have enjoyed using mine but as i am ready for a more involved experience so i "moved up"

just my $0.02

Bare in mind there is no warranty on TW's multipacks, if any of them die on you, it's tough luck.

Hey Silence, no, it's not just the money. My wife says even if it still cost the same as "analogs", it's still worth trying for the health upside. I'll google the nCig, thanks for that.

Sludge, I know the multi-packs have no warranty, but my first supplier (smart smoker) didn't respond to warranty emails or calls anyway, so it's a chance worth taking.

Cheers, Mike
