Ok so I've been on the quest of trying to find at least 10 good flavours I enjoy but so far I seem to be running money down the drain.

I'm into the fruity flavours which a hint of menthol/mint. I vape for taste and not for hot clouds.

I don't know if I'm making crappy builds (Mutation x v4 / sigelei 100W @ 25W-35W / 26g Kanthal dual coil @ 0.3ohm / Japanese cotton) but almost everything I'm trying just doesn't taste good as when i started on my innokin Itaste V3 + Kangertech starter kit.

I know flavour is subjective to the person but that's why I provided a list above so you get an idea of what I've liked and disliked and if you have any suggestions of brands and flavours based on those, do reply to this.

Here's a list of brands I've recently tried and what I think of them.

Cosmic Fog
- Disliked them all =/

Cutwood

  • Unicorn Milk - 6/10, Sickening after a while.
Element Liquids
  • Pink Lemonade - 9/10, I do enjoy this flavour alot.
  • Fresh Squeeze - 7/10, Another one I like but doesn't beat pink lemonade.
  • Watermelon Chill - 5/10
  • Zen - 5/10, Some days I'll vape it, some days it's sickening.
  • Strawberry Whip - 4/10, Sickening after a few vapes.
  • Frost - 3/10, Burnt woody taste and really harsh on the throat, not a fan.
Vampire Vapes
  • Heisenberg - 6/10
  • Black Jacks - 6/10
V-Juice
  • Blues Brothers - 10/10
General
  • Custard flavours have been terrible.
  • Minty flavours are too strong to vape on.
Right now I just keep coming back to the Blues Brothers by V-Juice after vaping a few hits on some of the other juices. Some I've just thrown away from getting a sickening feeling.

I remember trying Grey Haze's E-liquids when I started and enjoyed them so I may buy some more of their products but I'd like to know whether there's a problem with my setup or if I'm being too picky on taste.

What has your experience been with some of the flavours mentioned above out of 10 and why?

Thanks.

Can't speak to the flavors you've tried. However, if you want to try good Custard flavors buy them from Nicoticket. They are probably one of the top 5 best quality liquid companies, and they sort of specialize in custard / bakery flavors. They have some non-custard flavors that are fantastic too. Every once in a while they put out a killer coupon code.

Anyways, I have noticed that there are some companies where I don't like a single one of their flavors. I believe this is because of the base that they use; if you don't like the base then you can't possibly like any of the flavors because they all contain the same base.

PG, Nicotine, and heat all increase throat hit. Play around with those things to find your preference.

One of the vendors I use a lot, Mt. Baker Vapor, has a sort of average tasting base (to my personal preference) but they have great prices, service, and a good reputation.

The third vendor I use is Halo. They sell what I consider to be some top notch quality liquid, although you pay for it. They sell one flavor you might like called Malibu, and another pure mint flavor called kringle's curse that all of my friends love, even the ones who don't vape like to take a hit or 2.

"sickening", "harsh", "strong":

Try to dilute them (and not too hesitantly). For many people, most liquids are too strong, too heavily flavored.
In the meantime, I use just *one* drop of flavor for 30 ml nic base. You don't have to be that radical, but you will notice that much less flavor can taste better.

That Mutation V4 isn't noted as being a flavour monster...but fitting a tighter drip tip can change things quite a lot...I used Lemo style ones on mine and it did make a real difference.

It's probably not what you want to hear but in my opinion the best thing you can do is go DIY. Put yourself in the driving seat and control the flavor and VG/PG content completely. Save your self big bucks and bullet proof yourself against the new anti-vaping legislation before it's too late.

I find commercial eliquids have too much flavoring. Get some VG, PG, and nic. Mix unflavored with the same percent of those as your commercial liquid then dilute the flavored liquid by more than 50%. I find 25/75 works well. Your taste will adjust to the more muted flavor and you'll probably find the taste is improved. Unlfavored e liquid should cost no more than about 1 cent per ml so you'll save some money too.

When I first started, someone mentioned that I make a list for what I had tried and have notes. I rated them as similarly as I could and all had equal steeping procedures. The list really helped to keep track of juices for me.

But, the success rate for any given juice still ended up at out 10%. It first it wasn't very good since my taste buds were still healing and I had no idea what i really liked. Towards the end, though, I was picking a little better.

Still...about 10%

I will try a different drip tip on mine to see if it helps but going DIY is definitely something to consider.

Just been reluctant as I've never wanted to step into the deep end with it, but since the new legislation and all is heating up it might be time to try making my own juice.

Thanks for the responses everyone and some great veteran advice.

I would suggest a tasting bar at a Vape Shop with a bottle of lemon water to cleanse the palate between flavors. Worked for me to a certain extent when I finally found a flavor other then plain Tobacco I could vape.

Happy Mothers Day to all and thinking of those who can only have the memories.

I went through the very same issue when I started vaping. It took me a good 2-3 years to find juices that I liked enough to buy twice or more. My advice would be as some stated, try sampling at a local shop or when trying a made to order company, get a sample pack which should give you a general idea of what their juice is like. I too have poured many a bottle of juice down the drain or traded on the PIF forum. I've found a lot of good juices by trading and it only costs you the shipping charge. One persons not so good juice is another's ADV. There are many avenues to trying new juices and I highly suggest trading some.

Another thing I've found is, don't always trust a 5-star rated juice that has rave reviews. Taste is subjective as you said and I've been burned by quite a few of these highly touted juices and wondered how some folks could vape it. When reading the reviews, be sure to check out the low ratings. I've found that they tend to be a bit more explicit on why that person thought the juice was only worth a 1-star rating.

Just keep trying new juice and different vendors. Your ADV's are out there, you just have to find them.

I put off DIY for months because I got the impression from this forum that it would be really hard and complicated, blah blah blah. Afer a couple of batches you'll wish you'd started sooner. Starting by diluting your commercial flavored mixes is low risk. What's most likely to happen is you get the things you think you need to mix and something will be missing, like spare bottles or a syringe size so then the process is delayed while you pick up the last item or two. Be patient.

I have to agree with the others here who recommend DIY.

I had the same problem you did. With almost every juice I bought I was left feeling "this needs more of this" or "this has too much this flavor" or "wow, this tastes nothing like described." DIY was the answer. I thought it was this big mystery at first, but it's actually simpler than cooking, just mix up a bit of PG, VG and add your desired nicotine. Then you just add flavors and let the fun begin. Instead of being left with a disappointed feeling, you start thinking "OK, I'll add 1% more vanilla for the next batch," and so on.

Just download the new calculator to try here on ECF and keep good notes.

DIY using the calculator I linked is a total dawdle and produces great juice.

Though I smoked a pipe from 1974 until October 2015 - the real loves of my smoking life were Senior Service Plain and Players Medium ( old style unfiltered strong British cigarettes) - I have found using unflavored juice between 16 and 18 strength and the right atties I can almost bring them back to life.

The DIY route advised previously is a way to explore...

Thanks guys, any recommended places to buy flavour concentrates from? Seen websites like Make My Vape, Chef's Vapour and VapeMate but there's a lot of choice of things I want to try and get it to my liking! Don't want to overspend starting off.

Vapable - Incredible Value E Cigs, E Liquid and Accessories
Products Archive - Everything Liquid
UK Flavours

These are pre-mixed juices, but they are (to me) so strong that I use them as if they were concentrates

I didn't like more than 80% of the juices I bought, most were too sweet and sickening after just a few vapes. I read the reviews on them, tried and still disliked them so much I had all kinds of juice that were being wasted. I had put off making my own juice for a long time thinking it was hard to do but now in hindsight I wish I had started sooner. This last year of DIY vaping has been the best ever for juices since I found the taste I like without adding sweeteners and vape happily. Don't sell yourself short by buying juice after juice of wasted money. I have since given away a lot of my commercial juices and vape my homebrew tobaccos now. I just kept my DIY juice simple by mixing a couple flavors together, mostly tobacs since a lot of the commercial juices had flavors I didn't like so I never bought them as concentrates to dislike them again.
There is a learning curve to DIY but once you figure out what you want in a juice then its riding the wave and enjoying your vape experience.
