After going back and rereading the OP' post, I dont believe the stranger was being disrespectful.

Being disrespectful requires knowledge of what youre doing wrong followed by a blatant disregard for the rights of another.

I think this kid was just an idiot.

As vaping becomes more widespread, the days of us being a community consisting of highly intelligent and informed consumers are sadly coming to a close.

More people should actually go back and re-read the op. The guy got hazed because he's new. Ridiculous.

I didn't know vaping was hipster, no wonder so many use low nic levels. I always feel like a junky when I say I vape 24mg/ml. I believe the e-cigarette probably saved my life as nothing else work for smoking cessation. But vaping just to be cool is odd to me. Maybe kids have just figurered out that a little nicotine is good for your body and brain (there are studies proving this.)

If I was his age I'd probably do the same thing. Ahhh to be young again :D

not on your life ill be 30 at the end of the year and ive never been happier to be an adult and as far at the kid goes no one takes teenagers seriously they are only a small part of the problem. the biggest issue is there is little to no real information to pull from and with sooooooooo much hearsay and opinions floating around its bound to ruffle feathers. lol name a time in history when the entire populace of our country agreed on a topic i dare you to. lol i cant even get a straight answer on the health risks of eating eggs the other big one is politics (big tobacco losing money ect...) with so much money in the business and the potential for a huge increase in the next few years it scares folks making money on the stuff we are quitting (that being my reason for starting) remember when you make as much money as these folks do you will fight to keep it. so even if every vaper in the world was respectful it would still have a bad rep at this time.

All my friends who are musicians, poets, engineers, dancers and writers CAN go to restaurants, take long trans-atlantic plane rides, and sit in long meetings "without" the nervous NEED to practice their hobbies.

Then you really don't know what's going on in their heads. Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean they're not doing it. And I have yet to meet a musician who doesn't constantly have some kind of tune going through their head or 'need' to be doing something related to it. Call it an addiction if you like. No skin off my nose.

But I have known people who really couldn't go without 5-10 minutes not thinking about or working on some kind of whatever it is they do. Particularly on things like long flights or boring meetings. I can't tell you how many times I've been startled out of fiddling with some project or problem when I really should have been working.

I know I couldn't make even a short flight without pulling out something I'm working on, even if it's just in my head. Just because it's something that doesn't show, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Honestly, I don't think I could if I tried.

So I'm an addict? So be it. Probably a good thing I don't have kids. My father was the same way. Probably why I'm an addict like he was. And your point is?

Most of the population is addicted to caffeine , its an alkaloid just like nicotine and ........ There have been wars over caffeine, the addiction and dolllars at stake were so high at that time. When you start incarcerating people for possessing or over taxing plant material (poppies, coca, psylocybe mushrooms, tobacco, Ayahuasca, etc) you are ....ing with God's will and "the Pursuit of happiness", things always get turned ugly. This is going back millenniums.

Thank you. Twits like that will and are causing our plight more trouble than needed.

I don't vape anywhere that smoking is banned. It's not right to do so...just like I wouldn't light up in an area that it was prohibited.

We, as a community, are trying to educate the public about our nicotine delivery system, and how safe it is. We want it to become socially acceptable, instead of frowned upon. We want people to view what we are doing as a far safer alternative to smoking instead of with disdain.

Good for you and calling him out on it...and a hearty Thank You!

Exactly what do you think our plight is?

If you don't vape anywhere that smoking is banned you are already living our plight. So what difference does it make if vaping is treated just like smoking?

Don't worry, we're not trying to ban your vaping, we just want it treated like cigarettes, which we're trying to ban.

I enjoy vaping and it got me off cigarettes. Right now, it keeps me off cigarettes. But I don't pretend it is not a habit/dependency, or that it's like creating art or music.

I don't pretend it's a medical treatment that keeps me off steroids, immune suppressants, biologics (chemo) and ultimately surgeries that lead to more surgeries. That is a fact.
So maybe you shouldn't vape in public, but I guess I should because it's just as important to my health as an asthma inhaler is to an asthmatic or insulin is to an insulin dependent diabetic.

I guess maybe because we don't know a stranger's situation we shouldn't offer our unsolicited advice to strangers.

Before you ask if I need to vape constantly, no I don't, but you didn't like those other analogies and wanted to keep it real with your habit/dependency so I'm keeping it real with medical treatment. Just like other "as needed" treatments, if I think I need it I guess I should be free to get it where ever I am.
I take my white pills, my white pills, my pink pills or my blue pills where ever I am and happen to feel a need (even in front of children!) so I guess vaping should be the same.

Trust me, this kid was being a punk trying to look cool. It was a blatant vape on attitude because "it's not illegal" I could see it in his eyes and that's why I chose to confront him. Hopefully coming from another vapor, he'll see what he was doing as juvenile... someday.

I need to add that he actually looked stupid vaping in a checkout line and I can only assume I would too.

Just think, if they had different eyes this whole thing could have been avoided. Wait, you double checked for contacts, right?

The ANTZ want it treated like cigarettes (i.e., banned to the outdoors). Those saying not to vape in public where smoking is banned is handing that to them.

Since we already know the slippery slope is real with the ANTZ because of first separate smoking and non-smoking sections, then banned to the outdoors, and then banned a distance from any building opening (that often means simply banned), and then smoke free campuses for hospitals and colleges, giving into them only serves to get cigarettes and ecigs banned completely faster.

Sounds like adult ADHD coupled with poor impulse control more than it sounds like something thats typical of ALL musicians.

Why is it that those of us who think it's stupid and rude to vape IN THE CHECKOUT LINE OF A STORE are automatically perceived as people against vaping indoors or people who think we should hide our vaping? I'm absolutely not against vaping indoors...but I am totally against being rude or obnoxious about it because "it's not illegal". Situational Awareness, Common Sense, Common Courtesy....all these things are easy and ingrained in most of us but when we mention them, then we're against vaping indoors and handing over our rights to the ANTZ. I've read where many of us CHOOSE to vape where they could smoke...I've never read where they say that's what the law should be.

Depending on how one is vaping in a check-out line, it could be rude or it might not.

If you are stating that vaping in traditional non-smoking areas, including indoors, is fine, as long as it is done respectfully and with common sense, then you are in agreement with many of us vet vapers who support vaping most places but respectfully. That sounds like what you are stating.

Unfortunately, there are those on ECF and in this thread who are against vaping where smoking is prohibited, period. In many of our opinions, this just re-enforces the perception that vaping = smoking, is just as dangerous and that perception helps those who want vaping viewed as the same as smoking.

This is the calmest and most readable post I have seen from you in a while.

Thank you!

It is not always about what you wish to point out, but how it is pointed out.

.5 ohm build on a kraken + hammer is my all day set up.
I try not to be a .... about it or blow clouds at people, but If I'm in a store for 2 hours, I'm damn well gonna vape.

If there's a bunch of people in line with you, then don't do it. Wait 5 minutes.
If I'm the only one in a checkout, I'll blow it away from the cashier.

Now I won't lie, I've sort of done it, but I hold it in then take shallow breaths for a bit until most of the vapor is gone. =P

Now I'm 24, the OP mentioning age annoys me. I smoked for over 10 years. pack a day minimum of red 100's or non filters.
I also understand it because a LOT of younger folks are half ......ed, and have an attitude.

JMan8,
Thank you for taking the time to read, take apart and analyze my post. You make some valid points. You also miss some valid points.

Simply because a Meeting is Based on sudo-science does NOT negate a back sided agenda. Do we agree ANTZ see Vaping as Smoking?

I'm not sure of this. I feel real ANTZ do not see vaping as smoking, but seek to make that connection for the mass public. To be clear, I think some people do think vaping looks like smoking, from a far off distance, or at very first glance. I think a curious person (or curious enough to determine if they are bothered) and/or a person who is close to someone who is vaping would realize it is not smoking. If never encountered it before, they may not be sure what it is, but are fairly sure it isn't smoke.

Do we Agree they CANNOT provide Proof Vaping is Smoking - under current terms?

We agree on this.

Then they Must approach this under a different guise.

Which to me means making vaping anywhere shameful. Starting with indoors as low hanging fruit, working way up to outdoors in many public places and go for the gold with THV rhetoric to get it banned (or just as shameful) in own house and car where one day a child might be present.

Now, as I said, Thank you for taking the time. It is appreciated.

I appreciate you being appreciative. I really do.

To Clarify a bit for you and everyone else. I communicate the way I know how. Others may or may not understand my points. Then there are those that will take what they hear/read as they see fit regardless.

I am Never anywhere, at any time, for any reason, without my Mods. Normally a minimum of 3-5 and often as many as 10. I solidly choose to Vape when and where I personally feel okay with it. This is in total disregard as to whether it is indoors or out, however always with regard to respecting others.

We are much alike. Except where you say "mods" I would say (for myself) "cigalikes."

My idea of respect comes from my upbringing and has little to do with those around me or the year/time in question. I have my standards and those are not likely to be influanced at this late date.

Interesting. I feel influenced by situation and politics of the day (as I understand them). Sometimes I enjoy being nonconformist in public. But other times I'm shy and very conformist like. For most part, my version of respect/courtesy hasn't changed in last 20+years when it comes to being in public.

I cannot be sure a dirty look my way is from an ANTZ or a simple civilian that thinks I'm doing something illegal. I choose not to make assumptions.

Some simple civilians are ANTZ-like. Heck, even some of us are ANTZ-like. When I quit cold turkey in the 1990's, I felt some ANTZ in me. I still allowed smoking in my own house (in designated areas), but felt that ANTZ attitude at times. I have said elsewhere on ECF that ANTZ are among us or arguably are us. Yet, there is also the type of ANTZ that congregates and decides on strategy in light of legislation and litigation.

Occasionally I may put my vape away or I may simply move on. On occasion I choose not to Vape. Again that has nothing to do with Vape anywhere with respect or otherwise. I do not feel the need to Vape every minute 24/7.

Same with me. I'll advocate for vape everywhere, though never for 'vape all the time.' I would say somewhere in neighborhood of 30% to 60% of time I'm in public, I don't even feel like vaping. Also, being dual user, if I'm in "smoking section," I may just have a smoke.

People please remember this - when the fight stops being a true passion and becomes an obsession, you will drive away the very supporters you need.
People need to learn and be educated........................NOT INDOCTRINATED.

Find a way to work things out and stop assuming you know exactly what everyone means all the time.

With the "vape everywhere with respect" position, I do not feel indoctrinated. I compare it to my ANTZ feelings and those feelings and 'reasoning' feel indoctrinated. Like I shoot hate on people that are doing something in public that I've been told harms others. For me, there isn't much 'respect' in the ANTZ playbook. It is more like, looking for error, judging harshly against it when I witness it, and seeking punishment for that error. Plus basing all this on 'science' that I've never conducted myself, but have been told must be true.

Vape everywhere with respect is most reasonable position I feel we can take with regards to EVERYONE in the equation. Especially given the science I am aware of (both sides), the politics of the day, and the way in which I understand respect and courtesy.

I am by no means against vaping indoors, in no smoking areas, smoking areas.....anywhere that doesn't directly affect those around me. I equate a checkout line with a crowded elevator. Common sense and common courtesy tells me to wait until I get off the crowded elevator. Stealth vaping is a different story....if one isn't blowing out a bunch of vapor in the air...no one cares.
My issue with this thread is that if I was in a crowded elevator and some kid was blowing clouds, I'd say something too. I wouldn't jack him up...throw him against the wall and make him feel like an idiot...I wouldn't "accost" him. I would do like the op actually said he did. I'd let him know that I'm a fellow vaper and suggest a little more discretion when we're shoulder to shoulder with strangers....again, like the op said he did. I just don't see how that's such a radical point of view. There's no need to go to extremes and say he belittled anyone or accosted anyone. There's also no need to think that anyone opposed to vaping in checkout lines or crowded elevators are against vaping indoors or no smoking areas all together. Vaping is not smoking. I've had many opportunities to educate people on what we do. People tend to be much more receptive to facts when the situation doesn't start out with an IN Your Face moment...like vaping in a checkout line might be perceived.

I really appreciate your post.
