Howdy!

So, after being introduced to a cheap e-cig by one of my roommates, I immediately ordered a blucig starter set because of what I had heard through word of mouth.

I unpacked it, and started puffing. It worked great for maybe the first day, and just went downhill from there. This culminated in me being completely unable to draw more than 3-5 good puffs from a cart, which I thought was ridiculous considering the price and the amount of waste produced. To make matters worse, after a bit of uneducated tinkering, I broke my atomizers. Whoops.

So, to make a long story short, I'm fairly through with it. I found this forum, and read that the Blucig batteries are compatible with 510 atomizers/carts, and vice versa. Now, I was actually quite impressed with the Blucig battery and charging system, and I'm reluctant to return my purchase (mainly through a mixture of pack-rat instinct and embarrassment with the broken atomizers, to be honest). I've also read that, on the whole, the 510 delivers outstanding performance.

What I'm thinking, then, is that I might buy 2 510 atomizers, a set of 5 blank carts, and a bottle of liquid. As a bit of general info, I am a pretty low to medium smoker. Before trying e-cigs, I mostly smoked cigars (for taste) and the cheaper cigarillos (for the nicotine kick). Due to my relatively-light smoking habits, and the fact that I am a poor college student... I'm mostly looking for ease of use, cheapness, and consistency. I would love it if I didn't have to sink much more than $30-40 more in to this project, not counting refills and the like, so obviously I'm hoping to avoid buying a whole new starter set. So, my questions...

1. Given my situation, would the more experienced members here recommend this plan, or do I have a better course of action?
2. I noticed through my tinkering that there is a sort of padding in my carts... will my blank ones have that same padding (meaning, can I just drip the liquid on and go)?
3. Also, I looked on the Janty USA site, and under Dura (which is apparently a synonym for the 510?), it has the normal Dura atomizers, and also something called a "Dura Tawa atomizer". Is that still a 510 atomizer? It's half the price of a normal one, and so I'd like to know if there's any difference or reason not to buy it instead.
4. Is there any other equipment or advice I need? I'm pretty much completely new to this, so even the most obvious-to-you statements probably haven't occurred to me.

Why bother with a 3 piece ? save the hassle and get a 2 piece KR808D-1 they're cheap enough, you can get a starter kit with 2 batteries for like 39 bux from vaporkings.com and they have a 10% off code floating around too.

Like you said yourself you want something easy to use, consistent and cheap, when you find cartomizers you like the taste off just get the matching juice and top up the carts when the flavor wears off a bit, they can end up lasting a while. Trust me the KR808D-1 is hands down the easiest and most convenient e-cig there is.

Not having to deal with atomizers anymore = win.

This might appeal to me. Does anybody else have any experience with cartomizers? How do they compare to conventional e-cigs in general? How long does the average cart last for these? I'm really reluctant to buy something that would make my blucig set useless, but it does seem really convenient.

There is a lot of people on here who will chime in too :)

Carts totally depend on the user, personally i like to take longgggg slow drags to get a lovely flavorful hit, if im sitting at my desk all day i finish off a cart in a day easy, i usually vape around 1 and a half, and i don't bother topping them up and messing with juices i just chuck em out, im saving a lot more than i did smoking cigs anyway so i think what the hell, but a lot of people re-use the carts and fill them with different juice, you can easily save more money that way. It's just very convenient that i wake up in the morning and take the batterys off the charger, screw on the carts, smoke em all day, put them on charge again before bed... so simple ;) Trust me once you've nailed the strength and flavors you like the most in cartomizers you won't wanna go back to a 3 piece you'll be laughing to yourself wondering why you didn't just get the 2 piece in the first place :D

Alright, fair enough. I did go ahead and order a KR808D-1. The more I looked in to it, the more appealing it seemed to me. Maybe I'll get a 510 to round off the experience when I have more funds laying around, but it seems like this is going to be a good, solid standby in the meantime. The whole dripping/dipping system seems like a LOT of fuss to me.

me..I'd go with a 510 kit..if the attys work on the blu batteries bonus..if not you still have the 510 batteries..eventually down the road get a kr808d-1 to try out (and..I believer theres also adapters you can get to use the 510 attys on the kr808d-1 batteries.. 510 kits can be found for like $35 for the whole kit anyway..me personally I'd spend slightly more on that kit ($49.30 to be exact) and get a 510 kit from nhaler that includes the 5 prefilled carts and your choice of 2 6ml sampler bottles of juice (given what sounds like your occasional tobacco use this should last you a little while) and still try to keep things as compatable as possible.

As for the Janty Dura attys.. yeah they're both 510 attys..one includes a warranty and one doesnt and they are marked that way..

They'll cost you more than juice in a bottle. And you're tied to their flavors.

Look for someone to counter this with the fact that "there's a workaround!" so you can refill them and use your own juice!

So much for the 'no mess and no fuss'.

You can't have your cake and eat it too here. If you want no mess you're going to have to pay for it in price and in choice of juices. OR you refill them and then you're better off with the 3 piece even though the refills might not last quite as along but the refills are quicker and you don't have to carry a syringe around :) to refill a cartomizer.

The ones I've tried lasted from 1 hour to 2 hours and I've yet to find a flavor that doesn't have an undertone to it. That said, I'm still looking and in certain situations - mainly driving, a cartomizer could be good, but for me, I'll use my 510 to carto adapter where I can vape away on my 510 for when I'm not driving and I can 'fuss' with refilling a cartridge... It's not that hard really and not that messy really ;-)

I think you made a great decision going with the KR808D-1. This was my first e-cig and I love it. Not much hassle and very consistent. Everyone has their favorite model and all the models recommended in this forum are good models. However, for first time buyers, I always recommend the KR808D-1 due to its simplicity and consistency. I also recommend buying the empty carts and filling them with your favorite juices.

It didn't sound like anybody touched on this yet, but Altsmoke also has an adapter to fit kr808 cartomizers to your blu battery. I haven't tried this yet, I probably will in the next couple weeks with some ry4 flavors.
Also I use my Blu battery with an m801 atomizer when I want real good vapor and throat hit. I'm having trouble getting the blank 801 carts refilled though . I always only taste burnt atomizer. But dripping works great! My actual Blu attys and carts have continued functioning really well so far, but I've only had it for a little less than a week.

It takes at most a minute to refill a cartomizer. You don't need a syringe if you're refilling from the mouthpiece end, which works just fine. All I use is a fork or something small and sharp to pop off the cap, fill up a bunch at once, then rotate through them. I'll take my 510 over the KR anyday, but refilling ain't that difficult...

I should say, I rest my case, because you sure made it. But it isn't really my point that it's 'no mess no fuss' it's those that promote it, that with cartomizers you don't have to do anything but screw it on and vape. But then when someone wants to use some juice they read about it's well, you have to now take a fork and/or a syringe to fill it. And I'm not saying that, that is such a big deal, it isn't. It's just that now compared to a 3 piece, it's something you have to do, Just like a 3 piece.

How many regular cartomizer users just vape and throw it away? I don't know but I haven't heard from many of them. They all seem to have a way to refill, which is fine, but then don't tell a newbie - 'no mess, no fuss, no refilling, no cart mods'. Get it? If you do, then you understand where I'm coming from on this.

At any rate, adapters make this all pretty much a moot point. Get the KR batts and run the better 510 atty or get the 510 and when you're in your car, vape a cartomizer. I intend to do that IF I could find a good flavor in the prefilled cartomizer and if I don't I fill some blank ones with a fork or syringe and take a minute to fill rather than a few seconds. And then drive. ;-)

Yeah, totally agree with you on that. I was just commenting on the difficulty of refilling :p

Understood. When I get my blanks in, I'll be coming to you and others for advice.... :thumb: I did order the syringe for battery filling but will have to get the thing in hand to see what's really needed for the mouthpiece fill.

I vape them and throw them out, at the end of the day im saving more money than i spent on cigarettes.... And it IS 'no mess, no fuss, no refilling, no cart mods' i screw on my carts and vape thats all there is to it. There is a crapload of flavors available right now in cartomizers too so it's not like you're stuck with a few.

Totally understood and glad it's working for you. That saving more $ than cigs is a valid point, imo and I stated that earlier. As far as 'stuck with a few' flavors that wasn't what I said - just that the choice is somewhat limited in the disposable aspect - if you hear raves about the new Drewbacco, just to take a popular one, that would mean some filling going on with cartomizers. So there's no limit if you get into what is termed the 'hassle' part. But I'm glad there's a wide range of preflavored cartos. I plan on taking advantage of that. Are there any you'd recommend? I prefer non-sweet tobacco, coffee flavors.

You should keep an eye on vapor4life's selection, they have over 50 flavors right now and about another 20 about to hit like espresso, frapuccino, special menthols, new tobacco ones, root beer float, lemon and lime, pumpkin pie to name a few.

Yes, getting some 510 atomizers for your Blu sounds like a great plan.

Yes.

Start by reading the thread linked in my signature.
Then read the stickies at the top of this New Member sub-forum.

Particularly the Illustrated Guide put together by DonDaBoomVape...
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...strated-guide-e-cigs-parts-1-through-6-a.html

And you can get a 510 to KR808D-1 adapter to try cartomizers.
That should fit your Blu batteries too.
:)

Hey thanks NW83. I haven't made it over to V4L yet so one more place to check out. I just got the pumpking pie juice from Drew - it's very good. BTW I fired up a Riskee carto from puresmoker today - best so far.
