New to forum and vaping. Tried to post this question in DIY e-liquids or ask the veterans but unable too so I'll ask here.

Brief History. I am a Marlboro smoker of 23 years doing a pack a day. A year ago I went to roll your own to save some money since prices are insane but it costs almost the same.

So I decided to try this vaping thing out after looking at the cost.

Here is what I got March 9th.

Joye 510
125 ml of 100 Mg/VG Nicotine
VG liquid
various flavor juices.

I make 3 ml bottles to test with.

I have noticed that when I make my VG juices say Watermellon at 10% it tastes great. But anything over that amount say 15% or even 20% it tastes burnt and not good...

So basically my question out there is when you test your mixes do you find your 100% VG tastes better with a lower flavor mix %?

BTW: Today has been the first day I have not had a real cig. but then again I am smoking 24mg mixes now.

    Somewhere between here and there
I don't do a ton of mixing but do make my own camel liquid and always mix it at 15% and use a 100% vg base but its only 36mg unflavored. I like the unflavored from good prophets. Starting with 36 I don't have to add a lot of vg to get it down to 24.

I never use over 10% total flavoring with any flavors. However, I use an 80PG/20VG percentage. I vape fruit juices almost exclusively, and find that a higher percentage of flavoring gives it a chemical taste.

I don't have PG yet though I would like to get some and give it a shot since it makes the taste better and a little sweeter.

I just wonder if it was me since I smoked so long that my tastebuds a little whacked out.

    Thanks for the inputs.

Seems there are a lot of variables to work with that change the flavor from voltages; resistances; atomizers; cartomizers; tanks; drips; PG; VG; Nicotine; tastebuds; filler material.

I have learned that I need to move up to something more. I love the Joye 510 starter kit but I have to keep the charger going way too often and refiling the carts.

I plan to go with The Bolt since it's accepts the 510 stuff I have now with plenty of room to grow before I can out grow it. I won't get the Kick along with it but I love that it's an option I have for the future. I do plan to get a 5 ml tank so I don't have to refill so often.. I probably am going to have to start over on my flavor mixes getting away from the carts.

I'm not much of a throat hit person I would rather enjoy the flavor since that's what will keep me going in vaping and away from real cigs.

    Again thanks for the inputs.

It really depends on the type of flavoring too. I usually order juice with extra flavoring, but when I make my own (fruit) I found anything over 5%-8% makes me gag. I only use 10-20% VG, just enough so I get some vapor. But that's just personal preference. DIY, well vaping for that matter is a lot of trial and error.

This is not a VG phenom and is why I wrote my blog posts. Click the blue "3" under my avatar and read my Flavoring Levels blog.

Welcome to ECF and I expect you to get a few more posts and join us in the DIY forum soon.

Old age.. I can't seem to find the 3 under your avatar. I did however run across yours and others DIY flavor posts along with searching youtube videos. Helped to get me started though I can't recall everything said. Just so much to learn in getting started pretty overwhelming.

I don't know much of anything I would feel comfortable posting so just sticking to questions for now.
