Im a noob to DIY as well, but I just got a box in from wizard labs, 250ml PG, 250ml VG, 120ml of 12mg Nic base, and 4 different flavors. all told with shipping was around 40 bucks and I have enough to make 500ml of 50/50 mix. Compared to buying bottled juice at 20 bucks for 30ml at the local shop... Why not go DIY!

Steam engine has a good eliquid calculator, you just plug in what you got as far as nic base strength and what your target nic is and it does the rest.

You need a good calculator. Then you put in your base nic percentage, the nic you want to vape at, the ratio you want to vape at VG/PG and then the flavours you want in your mix in percentage then hit calculate and all the figures are there in front of you. We use Juice Me Up, All info here eJuice Me Up - Best eJuice Calculator

Good luck with it man and stick with it and you'll soon be knocking out good flavours ;)

well if you want MAX VG, why would you get PG based nic? isnt the point MAX VG? :p I bought PG based nic and flavorings. when i mix juices up right now I am finding them close to being 60PG/40VG. I normally like more VG... So next time I order Nic and flavoring I am going to try to get more that are VG based. As it is now my home brew juices are all to thin for what I really like. I can add more VG, but it really cuts the flavor out of them.

But as always, YMMV.

for max vg should i get the nic base 100% vg or 100%pg or 50/50?
and when buying flavors are the flavors also vg or pg based?

Get your NIC in VG. As far as flavorings in VG there hard to find most are in PG or alcohol. TFA sells a few in VG.

this is what i dont get since the majority of the flavors are pg based does that mean i have to add in more vg to eliminate the pg from the the final result ??

Adding more VG does not eliminate what is already there, just dilutes it.

If you do not want any PG, do not add any. Once it's in, it's in.

I know that on wizard labs some of the flavors are available in VG. If you want only the G liquid, you are going to have to look around and search for the VG offered flavors. Or just accept that your final DIY juice is going to end up being about 90 10 VG /pg or 80/20 vg/pg or thereabout. My ratios may be off its just a guess and I've been awake for 26 hours at this point so take it with a grain of salt.

As log as you use PG based flavorings you'll never get a 100% VG vape. If you use 10% PG flavoring and 90% VG your mix will be 10%PG/90%VG. You can't eliminate PG once it's in the mix you can only dilute it. Alcohol or VG based flavoring is your best bet. Some are sensitive to alcohol based flavorings and vapes mixed with alcohol based flavorings need to sit 1 to 2 days with the cap off to evaporate the alcohol and get rid of that alcohol taste. "Super concentrates" (SC) flavorings such as what vapingzone and bullcityvapes sells is what you want these flavors are usually alcohol based. Also keep in mind that high VG concentrations almost always need to be diluted with Distilled water or saline to thin it. Otherwise you get poor wicking, dry hits and burnt wicks depending on the vaping hardware used.

Here are a few alcohol based links

DIY Super Concentrated Alcohol Base E-Cigarette Flavoring - E Cig eGo, E juice, Mods, Cartomizers, Liquid Nicotine, DIY Flavorings

I'm pretty sure these are also alcohol based but check with the vender to make sure

May I recommend some further reading.

My blogs will give insight into all aspects of DYI, from steeping to what supplies to have on hand to a basic walk through mixing your first E-juice.

Then read hoosier's blogs. These blogs concentrate on fine tuning your mix and give insight on additives.

E-Cigarette Forum - Hoosier - Blogs

Then read Boletus's blog's. These blogs concentrate on formulation of nicotine bases regarding proper calculations methods for figuring Nicotine concentration as well as safety.

E-Cigarette Forum - Boletus - Blogs

Then read Ginger's book "E-Cigarettes 102: DIY E-Liquid". It is a book which I've contributed to that delivers an in depth easy to follow guide in the art of DYI.

I recommend viewing VPLive Vape Team Episode #82: DIY Safety and bookmark it for future reference. It explains safety in all aspects of DYI.

then read the stickies at the top of the page.

this will explain a lot of the how's and why's.
