DIY juice that melts/breaks plastic?

Ok so this is weird. I have done DIY for a little bit ( a few months) and I got the carto tank from mad vapes, some fluxomizers from gotvapes ect that I have been using my juices in and they work great.... but then I made of some rootbeer I got from onestopdiyshop.com and it tastes good. I was happy with it so I filled up a brand new tank, took a few puffs and set it down. When I came back 10 min later the plastic was shattered. Hmmm, ok thats weird I thought but oh well, I am just out a new tank thats all. Then I put it in a fluxomizer and I had no problems, vaped on it all day. I got home tonight and added it to a Clear eGo Dual Coil Mega cartomizer and put it on an eGo took a hit and set it down. Looked at it a few min later and its cracked. I have used 30ish of these and never cracked one. Here I am thinking "Man this is starting to get weird, and its only my RootBeer flavor". Then I take off my drip tip on my fluxomizer cartomizer and I notice the bottom of the drip tip is melted..... Now in the 2 years (ish) I have been vaping I have NEVER melted a drip tip. And its melted in a way like if you put plastic into a chemical (Acetone ect...) But the actual plastic of the fluxomizer is holding up fine. Now call me crazy but this is too weird for it to just happen with all these. I have not changed my nic, pg/vg ect, only the flavor, and I am making it the same as I do all my other flavors. Any ideas on why rootbeer flavor would cause this to happen. Needless to say I have stopped vaping it for now.

Yeah the stuff I got is TPA Root Beer Flavoring. So I guess the question here is that since it reacts to the polycarbonate. Is it unsafe to vape? I am not finding myself wanting to vape it anytime soon either way. Makes me feel kinda weird to vape something that destroys my tanks.

I have not used juice made with TPA root beer in a tank. I tried making some root beer juice in one of my "cheapie" graduated cylinders, and by the time I poured it from the cylinder to my bottle, the cylinder had turned from clear to milky and began what looked like melting. I did not like the flavor when I tested it, so I went no further with it. I use aluminum drip tips, so I can't comment on that.

I would not be afraid to vape it. I have not seen any kind of caution on TPA root beer flavoring, and Linda at TPA is right on top of everything. Our bodies are not made of polycarbonate plastic, so the same chemical reactions are not applicable. Just think of some of the acids our bodies churn out, pretty strong stuff.

Here's a link to a list of flavorings that are suspected of causing these problems in tanks:

Flavors and Juices that are known to react with polycarbonate : Big Daddy Vapor

Credit is given to our own My4Jewels, so maybe she can chime in on this.
LMAO! I just bought a tank from MadVapes along with a clear clear ego dual coil carto. I've vaped gooey butter cake religiously and had planned on using it in my tank. Only other juice I could see myself vaping as much as that is a Code Red Mountain Dew (TPA Mountain Dew and TPA Black Cherry) that I made. Looks like this tank won't be getting much use.

I have read that BWB Rootbeer caused no problems. Also, I feel the concentration of the offending flavor seems to have something to do with it. For instance, someone repoted to me that cola will cause cracking, but I vape a vanilla cola that is fine with my polycarbonate tanks. Here is my updated list:

UPDATE

My aim is to compile a list of juice and flavorings that may cause potential problems as far as cracking polycarbonate tanks. Anything listed here may cause your polycarbonate tank to crack. I am primarily focused on the polycarbonate tanks, although this info can easily apply to other tanks.

I have heard good things about the new ce2's with thicker tubing. I have also heard that the ce2 "syringe mod" can take just about anything. YMMV. There is also a wonderful thread ongoing here on how to make your own "syringe tank mod". http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...756-homemade-syringe-tank-mod-looks-easy.html

Also, bear in mind that different vendors may use different ingredients to make the same flavors. So, a flavored e juice you get from one vendor that is safe for yout tank may not be safe from another vendor, or vice versa. For instance, I have no trouble at all with VaporGod strawberry kiwi, but Mrs. T's strawberry shortcake can potentially crack you polycarbonate tank. Clear as mud, huh?

Some of these are premixed juices, some are flavorings that DIY'ers use. Contributions have been made by myself and other members. So far we have:

Any juice that has:

Sour flavors
Malic acid
Citrus acid
Cinnamon like "atomic cinnamon" types, not warm cinnamon like cinnamon coffe cake, this is okay
Wintergreen juice or flavoring
TPA ripe banana flavoring
TPA honeysuckle flavoring
TPA maraschino cherry flavoring
TPA cherry blossom flavoring
TPA root beer flavoring
Mrs. T's strawberry shortcake, snickerdoodle
KBV Hummingbird nectar
mimosa(because of the orange)
cola(because of cinnamon)?
Vapor Renu Teaberry, cherry vanilla (possibly most of their flavors)
Vapor Renu Mt. Dew baha blast and Strawberry limeade
Oil based/e liquid that conains essential oils, when mixed with pg/vg, creates esters which will crack plastics
E liquids that contain triacetin, used in vg liquids to carry flavor more effectively
Vapalicious Gooey Butter Cake
Nutmeg
Clove oil
Mt. Dew flavoring
TPA Cinnamon Danish flavoring
Sassafras
Rawrvapor Hawaii Sunrise
TPA Vanilla Custard flavoring
Tasty Vapor Cherry Cola
Vixen Vapor Rootbeer
TPA Pineapple flavoring
TPA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream flavoring
Vaporgod Licorice
VAL Goddess

I just noticed that Perfumer's Apprentice lists triactetin as in ingredient in some of their flavors, so be sure to check that out.

With so many folks using tanks nowadays, let's all contribute here!!

Disclaimer: These are not "bad" juices. They just have the potential to cause cracking in tank systems using polycarbonate tubing. Some folks have trouble with these flavorings and some do not with their polycarbonate tanks. I have no idea why...

Everything listed here was reported to me by members of the forum who experienced problems. YMMV
