So i am going to be making some liquid and had a few questions.

Can i make the liquid without using any pg. i have som lorann flavor and from what i understand it is pg. that is fine with me but do i have to put any other pg?

I also have 50mg vg ang vg to cut with. I have seen many posts on the amount of water to thin out the vg but i cant seem to get a clear answer. Some say 20%. So if i have a 10 ml botlle i would put 2 ml of distilled water? I dont like to strong of flavor so i have decided that 5% will do not the recommended 20% as i saw on that too. So should i do 15% water and 5% flavor then diluied the desired nic level with vg. Or 20% water and the 5% flavor?

Sorry if confusing and thank you for any help i can get out there.

10% flavor is what the standard bought juices are. 20% would be what they sell as extra flavor. The amount of distilled water depends on the thickness you like juice to be and what you use to vape with. It's best to start at about 5% water and add more if you need to. Start with a small batch in a bottle that's large enough for you to make such adjustments.

Hi Mandolinman,

Don't worry, it's not that exact a science.
20% water to 80% VG gives you the approximate viscosity of PG.
Not too thick, not too thin.

I've done several viscosity tests on PG/VG mixes, and there really won't be any noticable difference between 15% water, 5% flavoring, 80% vg, and 20% water, 5% flavor, 75% VG.

I would start with 15% water, and play around with your recipes from there.
Don't worry, nothing will blow-up or be destroyed if you're a few percentage points off one way or another.

The whole point of DIY is experimentation.
It's just like cooking a new dish off the top of your head in the kitchen, a dash of this, a pinch of that, maybe a bigger pinch of that.
Keep playing around with your recipes until you hit on something you think is so good you have to share it with the world.
That's the fun part. :D

Btw, Lorann's flavorings are all across the board on strengths.
Some are very strong and have sufficient flavoring (for my tastes) at 1-2% while others don't get good til you use them at 15-20%.
It all depends on your personal tastes.
You'll find your "sweet-spot" for each flavor as you use them and tweak them in your own recipes.

Also, not all of Lorann's use PG as the carrier/solvent, some use Ethyl Alcohol instead.

I don't use any water or alcohol to cut my 100% VG juice. I usually use about 15-20% flavor which are mainly PG based. I use an atty and cartridge with no wicking problems. IMHO, I would suggest you add water last and only if you need it. I live where it's warm most of the year so that has an effect on the viscocity of my liquids.

10% water is good enough IMO... You don't even need water, it's just to facilitate everything. IMO don't use more than 15~20%, I would stay at 15% max. Flavoring depends on the flavor. Try using Capella's water flavor drops as they are safer than LorAnns. Some LorAnns are insoluble in water, and that can be bad for you. Capella are MADE for you to put it in your drinks and drink it!

If you found a flavor you REALLY want, try to get 4x 4oz bottles (ends up being very cheap) an take a 5 pack of 15cc bottles

You really want to visit the DIY E-liquid sub-forum here on ECF.

With the ingredients you listed, if you were to use 20% water and 20% flavoring and 50mg/ml nicotine, you would have 30mg/ml juice. Not sure what mg you are going for. (And if you use drops for your measurement, then the result is completely up in the air as VG does not have the same drop size as water or flavoring.)

On the DIY sub, you can read plenty of informative stickys and you have enough posts to start your own thread there too. Percentages are found by (volume-of-liquid-in-question)/(total-volume-of-finished-juice)*100=% So 2ml of flavoring with 8m; of PG would be 2ml/(2+8)*100=20%. If you add 2ml to an existing 10ml it is 16.7% (2/12*100).

You don't really need water unless you're trying to lower the viscosity of the VG. If you're dripping, you can use 100%VG, but if you use cartos you will most likely have to thin the VG to make it flow properly.

For the amount of flavoring to use check out this thread. You may also want to check out the DIY E-liquid forum.

It depends on the flavors. Some Loranns flavors need very little and some may need a lot. There is no one recipe.
And some flavors are hard to use (relaly oils) and some are not safe to use (have diacetyl)

Go read the DIY forum guide. And practice your flavoring amount with a small batch of 1ml or 3ml w/ no nicotine and then make your real juice.

Hi Dormouse, some of the DIY info regarding flavorings needs to be corrected and updated.
LorAnn's doesn't use Diacetyl in their flavorings.
Also there are a lot of misconceptions and confusion about what LorAnn's "oils" and essential oils actually are.

Here is some info directly from Lorann's:
https://www.lorannoils.com/c-178-faqs-tips.aspx

Do any of your flavors contain diacetyl?
No, none of LorAnn's flavors contain diacetyl.

Do LorAnn flavorings (candy oils) contain vegetable oil?
No, none of our flavorings contain vegetable oil. The term "candy oil" has been used for many years to describe a type of flavoring that is potent enough to be used in hard candy making.

What is an essential oil?
Essential oils are the highly concentrated, volatile, aromatic essences of plants. Most are derived by the steam distillation of fresh herbal materials, or through cold expression. Many essential oils, such as peppermint, spearmint, lemon, lime, anise, and orange are appreciated both for their aromatic qualities and as flavorings. As flavorings, these highly concentrated oils are ideal for hard candy crafting, but are also appropriate for use in flavoring other candies suchs as fondants, caramels, & marshallows. The essential oils can also flavor chocolate, cakes, cookies, pastries, frostings & royal icing. *Please note that our Cinnamon, Clove and Peppermint flavors are particularly potent. You may wish to reduce the amount used for these flavors.

What is the shelf-life of LorAnn's essential oils and flavorings?
Lorann's flavoring "oils" and essential oils do not have a vegetable oil base. You need not worry about spoilage or rancidity of our flavorings and essential oils, even over a period of years. LorAnn Oils guarantees the flavor strength and character of all our flavors and essential oils for a minimum of one year. It should be noted that as flavorings age for extended periods of time (i.e. 1 - 3 years) the flavor strength and or character may experience minor changes.

Are LorAnn's flavors sugar-free?
With the exception of Maple Flavor, and Canadian Maple Flavor for Chocolate, all other flavors and essential oils are sugar-free.

Hope that helps answer a few of the common questions about our main concerns as vapers and DIYers.
