Hi All

I am not totally new to DIY, but I will be making my first sub ohm rig soon, and wondered if you mix different for these cloud machines, as the vapor is apparently very hot.

I will be making a twin coil build on a Kay Fun 3.1, and looking to start off with a 0.7 Ohm build. Previously i have mixed 80% PG 20% VG, and 6 mg Nic. I am not a fan of very hot vapes and as such am wondering if I should add more VG, or Aqueous VG to cool the vape? I do love LOTS of flavor though :p

Any suggestions on ratios are welcomed !

Thanks

Phil

don't know what you are vaping now but be prepared for a shock. @.7 ohms if the build is good is gonna rock your socks. flavor and vapor wise.i personally use DIY and drip exclusively between .55 - .65 ohms 60% vg 40% pg . fav flavors are RY4 variants and dessert flavors. today is banana nut bread, hazelnut praline and the ever present RY4. your build is going to affect everything so keep trying til you get it right for you. best of luck and use IMR batteries !

Kayfun's are built for flavor and imo work best at 1.5 - 2.2 ohms. I think if you want a cloud machine there are better choices out there. I look at as trying to turn a truck into a racecar or a ferrari into an off road vehicle. I believe you got best results when using things at what they are best (designed) at doing. Just my :2c:

One other thing, whenever I've tried my buddies sub ohm rig, the vape has been hotter. I always figured it was because your throwing a lot more power at the coil(s). Just curious as to why you want to sub-ohm if you don't like a hotter vape? Not be judgemental or anything negative, just curious. Good luck in your search.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Wingsfan

Some people might disagree with you saying that the KFL+ is only ok / best at 1.5 Ohm plus. ;)

I plan on doing a dual coil setup, and dislike thin wire so this brings me into sub ohm territory. Using 2 coils and wicks will give me more vapor and hopefully more flavor also :) Just need to work out what % VG and also maybe thrown in some distilled water too to cool the vape down somewhat.

I don't mind warm vapor just not throat burning levels.

To hot a vape is what I encountered with a kayfun and sub ohm (.7) and wound up going back to 1.6. I will admit the initial effect turned me right off to sub ohm and I never played with the builds long enough to form any opinion other then it was not for me. I've since gone to microcoils at 1.6 ohms and find it works much better for me. So for sub ohm I have to say I'm with wingsfan on this one.

I've also done some microcoils at 1.1 ohm to 1.3 ohm where the heat was just perfect and the flavor was outstanding. I will also say that vapor production is not as important to me as flavor so for me all I really want in a coil is a quick warm up time, moderate heat, moderate cloud and lots of flavor.

Will AG do the trick glasseye? Also what % PG to keep the flavour decent? 30% PG?

I've never used AG, wouldn't even know where to find it so I can't say. Distilled works for me and it's cheap. 30% sounds good. Ratios are such a personal preference but the DW will help as far as the flavor goes.

Well I vape at .7 ohm, RSST on a Sigelei 24, 26 kanthal, SS mesh wick, and it rocks, trust me on this. I use 40% VG 60% PG, and Mt. Baker flavoring, about 18%, RY4 with a little vanilla and peanut butter, and 12 mg. nic mixed in a 100 ml Erlenmeyer flask. I've pretty much settled into this mix and vaping rig, because I'm happy with it. I don't get anything like a hot vape with it.

Hi Danyv - What ratio juice were you using, and nic % ?

I live in Thailand so getting supplies is a royal pain in the ...! How does the distilled water help the flavor? I have never used it before, but def willing to start - as long as I can source it.

Hmmm but the RSST is a different RBA, so can't really compare, as the airflow will be different. But still good info on the ratios :)

I'm not knocking sub ohm It's just my personal opinion on what works for me. Some rave about sub ohm others prefer a cooler micro coil and others are satisfied with a standard 32awg 5 coil wrap. It's all a matter of preference.

distilled water or saline will help with wicking when using higher VG mixes. It will also add moisture to the vape helping throat irritation or harshness. If your using a higher PG content in your mixes it's not really nessessary and may thin the mix and cause gurgling or carto leakage.
