Hi Folks! I decided to bite the bullet and get myself a DIY starter kit. Today I mixed up my first 4 samplers and it was good fun. I got a little stressed as to the drops etc but should be fine, I just have to wait now to try it, as my nicotine arrives tomorrow. So heres is the first batch, Rasperang, Pinesour (pine soup is a name I might use though heh) Blueflash and Limearang. The calculator said a cost of 21 for each 10ml, I aassume that is cents so 84 cents or about 65 p (or so) for 40ml instead of £10 for B&M juice. Thanks for all the tips and advice. I would give you a tankfull if I could. Here is hoping it doesn't taste like feet!

Hi again :) Got the nicotine and added to my samples. For all 4, the flavour is almost non existant. I mainly made single or double fruit flavours to start because they would be pretty much a shake and vape. The only one that had a noticable flavour was the Lime and megingue and i guess that was because I added twice as much after a quick try yesterday. so a few questions for the collective please.

What percentages are you using for your flavours? (I use FA only flavours and went with HIC's percentage recommendations but they seem so mute)

Would steeping bring out the single falvours or did i just add to little?

I read somewhere to start with less than 5% and work up, is that a good start or should I just try say 10% or slightly higher?
I know it is subjective but any info is good :) Still happy though as it is a nice smooth vape and the nicotine is deffo good as i am slightly light headed from testing hehe

Here's a crowdsourced spreadsheet that's been floating around for a few years.

From an old post, Flavourart's general recommendations:

% varies depending on country, hardware used and personal taste.
As rule of thumb:
Tobacco 2%

Fruits 3-4%
Warm (chocolate, vanilla, maple caramel ) 5%
Good luck! It can be difficult to wing it, especially in the beginning. If you want to give us more info about what flavors and percentages you used, plus pg/vg, folks might have some more specific advice.

Start low and work up is always a good plan, search the forum for the flavors you are using and get an idea of how others are using them percentage wise. When I started out it was more helpful to me to experiment with each flavor on small (5ml) test batches to get a feel for what to expect and then work up to larger batches and combining stuff.

TAKE NOTES! Write down each thing you do and how it turned out, what you liked and didn't like.

Have Fun :):thumb:

That's so strange! Now I want to know what country I need to be in to use the least amount of flavoring possible! :)

If your in New york you need to use like 35% because it's so over populated but in the south west you only need 3 - 5 percent because population is so sparse. In the middle of the desert you only need 0-1% because there's no one around you for miles just watch out for buzzards because they love to vape also:)

Hi Folks! Thanks for all the helpful replies, i think i had not used near enough flavour. This was the recepie for my first one that wasnt to bad the others had less flavours.
Limearang
6mg 70PG 10ml
Lime Tahilty FA 1.5% (HIC suggested .5 i tried that and upped it)
Meringue FA 1% (HIC suggested to use sparing ly started with.5)
I also think my other problem was i was using drops and the FA bottles seem to deliver very small drops. I do enjoy this DIY lark though and nice Chicken!

Yes, that's quite low! I'd guess that for most all-FlavourArt ingredient recipes, the total percentage would be around 4-8%.

Gratch, am I remembering correctly that you are in the UK? Here is the inexpensive digital scale I use (recommended by another ECFer). This really makes mixing a lot easier. There are fancier ones, and I might get one someday, but this has been fine for my needs.

That is a very low percentage even for HIC who has a very sensitive palate. Most of his recipes have 5-6 % flavoring total, but some are as high as 10 %. For standalone, he recommends 3% starting point for most flavors. Meringue and Lime Tahiti are usually not the stars in a recipe. Such small percentages are used to accent recipes which have other flavors as the main ingredient.

Thanks Tazzle :) I made some new samples today and upped the percentace at least twice (ish) so in a few days i will be able to tell how it went. I saw a video of someone making ejuice with digital scales and it did look so much easier. I might think about it in the future but skint as a church rat here. :)

Thanks Mazinny :) Will deffo be upping my percentages from now on. even though the flavours are weak of the 4 i made yesterday the good thing is, i can just add more heh DIY is fun and it will save me a fortune, already had a friend ask if i could make cookies and cream for him :)

Yeah that's the thing about starting low with flavoring, you can always add more ! Another thing, Lime tends to fade pretty fast in a mix too, so if you have had a mix sitting for a while, you could boost it with another 0.5 to 1 % before vaping. Good Luck !

I have a nearly full 30ml bottle of Cookies and Cream one-shot concentrate (this from Chefs Flavours) I could probably send you if you'd like. It tastes *exactly* like cookies and cream. It just turns out that I don't really like cookies and cream as a vape flavour.

You'll need to at least get hold of a plastic pipette to use it, though, since it requires 20%, and that would not be fun to do by drops!
