Hello all,
I typically vape an 80/20 PG/VG mix from BlueMist. When I make my own I use 60mg VG base unflavored nic liquid. I then mix in the correct percentage of PG to get to 80/20 %.. but here's the thing. All my DIY liquid has a VERY strong throat hit.. perhaps it's just so much more than I'm used to, but either way, I really dislike it and tend to abandon my own little creations. What's going on?

Its possible that ur flavoring is distilled into a PG base, hence this would make it a 60% VG and 40% PG Mix resulting in a higher PG %. Another possibility could be your end product has a higher % of nicotine, resulting in a stronger hit. You need to determine first what your end product nicotine strength will be and dilute the nicotine liquid accordingly

When you say your flavoring is pure what do you mean? Are you using flavorings intended for vaping or something else?

Usually DIYers have a hard time getting the same amount of throat hit the premixes have. Often some form of alcohol, PGA or vodka, is added to provide additional throat hit. If you're not using vape intended flavorings, they may have a high alcohol content, giving greater throat hit.

Yasinmadakia's post is correct. Include any flavoring as a PG component in the percentage unless it is specifically advertised as VG.

It's possible it is not "throat hit", at least not good throat hit that you are feeling. Good throat hit is a warm sensation in the lungs, not burning or irritating. There is an ingredient or flavoring you are using, is my guess, that is causing the problem and has nothing to do with "throat hit" in the true meaning of the word.

What nicotine level is the juice you buy?

If you cut 60mg VG nic base to 80PG/20VG with PG that means only 20% of your juice is nic base and that means the highest nic 80PG/20Vg juice you can make is 12mg (20% of 60mg). If you are mixing that up and THEN adding flavoring, then you will cut that further to 10-11mg nic. if you use an Eliquid calculator and PG-based flavors then you can make exactly 12mg juice 80PG/20VG juice by counting the flavorings into the 80% PG.

Is 10-12mg nic juice what you normally vape? Nicotine is TH and it is impossible to make any higher 80PG/20VG juice with your VG-base 60mg nicotine because it is VG base. if you want higher nic 80PG/20Vg juice use PG nicotine base.
