After reading a lot of threads regarding TPA's DK tobacco flavoring being difficult to work with (too perfumy/citrusy/flowery/etc.), I got a hold of some and tamed this beast. I wanted to share my recipe with you all and see if it changes your mind about this flavoring.

You'll need:

TPA DK tobacco
PG
VG
VG Nic Base 36mg/ml
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
Dropper (for ACV)

To make a 5ml test batch @ 30pg/70vg 18mg/ml:

DK tobacco @ 5% = 0.25ml
PG @25% = 1.25ml
VG @ 20% = 1ml
VG Nic Base 36mg/ml @ 50% = 2.5ml
ACV @ 3 drops per 5ml

Note: The vinegar is what really makes the DK taste great instead of like I'm chewing on flowers freshly picked from an orchard on a fine Summer's day. It really files down the floral/perfumy notes that most people seem to experience with it. But don't worry, you won't even taste the vinegar in there.

Back to business; After you have made your mix, give the liquid a hot water bath for about 15-20 minutes, shaking the bottle about every 5 minutes. Then, store the bottle in a dark cool place with the cap and dripper out to let it breathe for about 24 hours. Afrer 24 hours are up, you can place the dripper and cap back onto the bottle, and let it steep for a couple more days. Afterwards, you'll taste a pleasantly slightly nutty/slightly sweet flavor that's well balanced.

Well that's my recipe for TPA's DK Tobacco flavoring. Give it a try and be sure to let me know how it turned out for you!

Peace. :)

EDIT: I find the best time to put the bottle away to breathe is when it's still warm from the hot water bath. I believe it helps to speed up the breathing time a bit.

Your airing and steeping process for DK is exactly the same as mine (btw ive found shaking during the hot water bath makes no difference just shake hard before you drop it in and again after.

However I make it with all vg and distilled water, with flavoring at 3%. dw and flavoring in the end should equal 20% to 25% in the end for best wicking thru most equipment. I use 1 drop white vinegar per 5ml.

You know, I wonder if since vg tends to mute flavors a bit, that that might be helping to file down the harsher notes to begin with? I'm just guessing. I noticed that, with the tpa ry4 double I was using 15% in all vg (really makes it a 15/85 ratio since the ry4 double is in 100% pg), it tasted rather dull, then I started to add pg to make my mix a 30/70 blend (still 15% flavoring), and the double woke up big time! :D That's why I wonder if your all vg recipe might contribute to the DK needing less vinegar to tame it. Ugh... I need to stop thinking so much. :p lol

EDIT: I should mention as a side note that I like my flavors strong. Not everyone likes that, as everyone's taste buds are different. ;)

I was just thinking to myself "he likes strong flavor" ... then I saw your edit... lol

I also have ry4 double and have played with it a bit. Its nice too. I only use it at 5% tho. It could be that the little bit of sweetness to vg and its thicker composition tend to mute harsher notes in flavors. However when something is harsh, its harsh, that seedmans virginia concentrate... makes me wanna vomit... lol. Good example. I was going to try mixing a recipe swapping vg for pg in my next mixing session... im pretty pg intolerant but small doses I can handle. I just wanted to see how flavor changes in pg vs vg in the same exact recipe. Ill post back and let you know what I come up with.

Lol. Yeah, I like to REALLY taste my vapes, that much is for sure. I've heard people either tend to love the seedman's virginia or loath it. At the same time, there are people who use it in a mix of flavors, so it makes me wonder if it works better as an additional note rather than a stand alone flavor. I haven't tried that stuff though, so take that with a grain of salt. As for how pg affects the flavor, what I noticed is that after upping the pg content in my ry4 mixes, the flavor went from having a flat and undiscernable sweetness to exploding with notes of caramel, vanilla, and a subtle tobacco (and whatever other tasty voodoo Linda puts in that flavor :D) It's like going from Betamax and an old tv to BluRay and hi def! Just be careful if you are that intolerant to pg though. I myself can't handle 100% pg, but 30/70 pg vg I can vape all day long. Can't wait to see how it goes for you! :)

Well Im reporting back and Ill keep it short and simple... I just dont like what PG does to me, or my juices. As a flavor carrier its fine. I use PG for extracting my own coffee and tea concentrates. Ive yet to find a mostly pg based juice that doesnt have an overall taste of stale and old to me.

I sat there and mixed the same recipe side by side only swapping the vg and pg bases. I know VG tends to mute flavors but to me... the VG juice just tasted better. Again, ever so slightly sweeter... but also fresher. PG just tastes stale to me. I vaped it alone too and its flavorless, its fine.

I mixed 3ML (This recipe is my usual tobacco base)

3% TPA 555/DK Type
3% Seedmans Commercial
1 drop vinegar

Easy and tastes good. Like a light cig flavor without the ashyness.

Maybe its just me. I dunno. Ill stick to my VG base tho. In the end even if Im using a little more flavor (this test proved otherwise but not all would be the same) I think it just makes a better finished product.

Sorry to hear the pg didn't work out for you. But hey, everyone's tastebuds are different. :) I've been tempted to try the seedman commercial at some point. How would you describe it's flavor?
