That Militia mod looks nice.. I question the idea for using magnets on a device thats using LiPo... unless you're going to desolder whats in there and put on connectors for pack swapping and charging.

I think it would look just as good with some countersunk hex screws/bolts. Still easy to access when the time comes to replace your pack. (assuming you're not setting it up with connectors to replace and charge your LiPo externally)

I just don't see why I would need to get inside that mod, that easily. o_O
The purpose of the magnets has little to do with having access to the inside. I've seen these boxes before, they are basically an upgraded Hammond box without the lean and were designed with magnets in mind instead of screws. Hence the nice clean look on the outside.
The builder stated on Facebook that he didn't leave room for any connectors but I'll take his word on that.
I do wonder if reversing the magnet placement (put the longer ones in the door, shorter in the box) would result in a tighter fitting door and still hold up over time without them falling out.
I still haven't ordered my own yet but I'm glad my post has attracted some interest and some buyers. I'm going to check on the prices for a custom etched box before I make my order. I appreciate all the feedback, thanks.

Sorry, I just assumed this mod was made with dual 18650s at some point. Magnets cover both aesthetics and ease of battery changes, in that case.

I was just mentioning that proper size and type of screws as fasteners would look good to me as well (to each their own), and be more secure (not that I am saying the side falls off all the time either), especially since I don't think there is much servicing required on this mod.

No apologies needed. It's basically a run of the mill box any modder can put whatever they want in it. I think they sell for less than $20. I do agree that a more secure way of attaching the door would be nice considering there's not much of any need to open it on a regular basis.

I've heard there's quite a few issues with the Opus 200. Some with blown fuses and some like yours. Almost makes me glad I didn't pick on up. The guy who posted on reddit about contacted Evolv directly and they said that they would fix his unit.
Contacted opus and they responded in a few hours. Shipping it back to them for a free repair.

I am in the process of building a CNC 1590G. I am going with magnets on this build, just for the clean look. And it can be easily opened up to wipe out any leaking juice. After I installed the magnets, my door has zero play.

They make this box with screw holes also. I am sure the modder would use that one if you requested it. But here is the thing, the Militia Mod is only using 3 of the screw holes. He cut one out to fit a larger lipo. You basically would have to cut off a screw head and epoxy it in the unused hole so it wouldn't look funny with only 3 screws in it.

Evolv stated they will eventually sell it as a kit for diy but I think it's going to take a while before it happens.

If you really like the shape (I do) and don't mind giving up on aluminum (I didn't) then you can get a 3D printed version from shapeways. It's super light and works fine.

FYI

While most of us have seen this already: Evolv DNA200 Case with Buttons (6524725AS) by slutlab

The designer is apparently working on models incorporating larger batteries and these were briefly visible earlier today but were apparently later suppressed by the designer. They disappeared while I was looking up the batteries but I was able to access listings from my history.

Nice catch, I noticed it only had the three magnets but didn't think much about it. I personally wouldn't want to give up the larger battery or the clean look just to use screws. I believe it was mentioned in the review that the door had a slight play and as far as I can tell from what I've read and seen, that's just one small gripe for what seems to be a very well made mod.

Yeah, nice catch there. I would just use two screws at the opposing corners, still wouldn't look bad, in my opinion (Meaning if it were just two screw holes.. not a door with four and only two screws in them)

I also would prefer the larger battery over four fasteners.

I am getting closer and closer to just ordering the thing :)

Evolv are about to test 2S compatible firmware so you would to be able to make 2 cell mods, although no 18650s would have enough current for 200 W operation so I would think you need to lower the max Watts.

I think this is the result from the topic I posted there last week (about single cell support).
John then said 2 cell support was possible.

We COULD conceivably run from 2s in a degraded (probably 120W or so) fashion, but once you go to 2s and taps, there's very little extra cost or difficulty to go to 3.

Surely I'm going to sound like a sales person for Opus at this point, but House of Vapor has nickel Opus 200s in stock. Just figured anyyone looking might want to know because I appreciated it when someone let me know and I was able to order before they went out of stock (although with the other 200 mods coming out that might not happen as quickly).

Yeah, basis design of the Vapor Flask woudn't have to be modified at all. Just rotate one of the batteries and you've got serial.
I don't think so as the current design uses a common ground to the body you would have to isolate at least one of the battery caps.
