Darkly,

Thank you very much for the post!!!

I just cancelled my pre-order. I have enough headaches already. I don't know that I mind things glued in all that much (if it is properly glued) but a circuit board held in place with tape and a funky "Fire Button" is just not worth the the money they are asking.

Again thank you, I would have been as upset as "Fagan"... no, I would have been much more upset. :-x
It appears the board it held to the front plate with screws and protected with kapton tape.

I have a complaint about the dna 200.

It's BORING. It works, all the time as it's supposed to, and if there's a feature I'd like to see it comes along in a couple days with a firmware upgrade. There's nothing to gripe about or wish for. I'm not accustomed to that in the vaping world.

Craig,

You might be right however I just watched the Fagan vid again and there appears to be only one screw being used on the fire button end. I assume they are use the single screw on the +/- button end. Which means the entire other side (top edge) of the board is totally unsupported.

But both Fangan and the Scotchman (sorry can't remember his name) didn't seem to think much of it other than it is externally solid and pretty. But in this case it is really what is inside that counts.

Anyway I think I would much rather wait and see how the unit by hcigar stacks up.

End of the month keep an eye out for the hobo customs mods. Around 200 for aluminum and 350 for stab wood. Also comes in a smaller sized 900 mah or a larger 1300mah.

I emailed them about this box. "The boxes will be available in about 2 weeks, no preorders…". Direct from Hoberto himself, got the response this morning.

Well in that case a lipo isn't really better than 18650s since the wh is the same between both of them.

since the wh are the same there is no real benefit of using 3S lipos over triple series 18650s other than size and amp limit.

I can understand unregulated going with lipo's because of the much higher amp limit for them super low builds with a ton of power.

but since the dna only uses 23 amps at max it is perfectly fine for 18650s though its maxing out. hell dual 18650s are then a better option than a 2S lipo pack(especially now that LG is making that 3000mah 18650)

so using the wh a lipo and 18650 are the same, 18650(triple) is wider than a lipo and the amp limit on a lipo is higher though it doesn't really matter on the amp load the chip uses.

so unless the much higher amp limits give the lipo a much longer battery lifetime compared to 18650 I don't really see why people say a lipo is better.
It really comes down to size, amp limits and duty cycles. The lipo will give you a more consistent power delivery. In many cases they are much smaller in size than a 18mm cell pack. And you could get as much as double the charge cycles, this is mostly because the lipo pack does not have to work as hard as a set of stacked 18650's. You know in the end its really what your comfortable with. I prefer lipo's.

wow...glued 510, chip help in place with tape.
what a piece of .....

The 510 may be an issue will have to wait and see for more info. The board is held in with screws like it should be with kapton tape on the rear of it for insulation. Vapin Fagin does do a good job on reviews. His mechanical skills and electronics knowledge is lacking. He does try, and I think thats great we all started somewhere, I do think that he needs to seek counsel when he takes these mods apart with someone that knows what they are looking at. That way great information can be put into his videos.

Not bashing him in any way, he does more than other reviewers and thats cool in my book.

Seriously?? What kind of superior knowledge do you need to realize they did a sh*tty job? The freaking 510 connector comes lose after screwing one tank on and off because it's superglued. Hello!! LMAO
I really wanted this mod, but this is just not acceptable, period.

There really isn't anything wrong with them using Kapton tape. I'm not sure why Fagan thinks that's a problem since it's only intended to electrically isolate the board from unintentional shorts; I've used it on all of my own designs.

I have a fix in mind for the 510 that involves two tiny machine screws, the button on the other hand could be a little tricky. Any thoughts on how to firm up a squishy, unresponsive fire button. Got one of these VTbox200's coming from FT, and obviously I'm gonna have to fix stuff straight out of the box.lol

I use some thin, firm foam tape and cut a square hole to surround the fire button. This keeps the button nice, even, and level from the depressed position to the pressed position. This also makes for smooth operation of the button and keeps the button from getting stuck. It also adds more force that's needed to fire the button. It's great for people who don't want to lock their mod and have accidental hot pockets.

To go around the fire button so the sticky side of the tape is touching the board right? Giving the button more surface area in effect.

Also that male connector on the lipo pack(if I remember right) is just an accident to be waiting to happen.
