nic,

I normally wouldn't comment on a post like this... BUT
Making a comparison to someone that lives next door to Hana and can do a walk in is considerably different than what most experience via email or phone calls.
Plus comparing your experience to what you might have with a Chinese company is just ridiculous. I have found the Chinese to be very helpful with problems but to expect 5 minute turnaround with a Company 6,000 miles away in another country is just silly.

I purchased a Hana dna 200 from them and it failed. I contacted them and got the runaround. I then contacted Evolv and had a very pleasant experience and received a brand new replacement within 5 days. Obviously I don't live within driving distance of Evolv but they sent the replacement immediately and trusted me to send the failed unit to them after the fact. Now that is what I call service.

I mostly agree with you Holman and know many have reported having great RMA service from Evolv. But out of all devices I've ever owned the only one that has failed and required RMA has been a dna 200, so this is the only experience I've had to deal with for returns for comparison. I was horrified at the thought of having to deal with Gearbest again for the dead dna 200 after dealing with them for 4-5 months to get a replacement battery pack for the one that had come in over discharged.

Evolv was great and asked me to ship in the entire device and I certainly appreciated that, and that I didn't have to ship it back to China or deal with Gearbest on the matter. Evolv replaced the board and shipped it back to me and over the course of a few weeks I received the device back. Unfortunately the first thing I noticed was the OLED was off center (slightly cutting off text) and loose at the top leaning inward slightly. The second thing I noticed was the - button was spongy and would not always close the switch.

Rather than spending more on S&H and doing without the device for an additional period of time and since I have some background with electronics I decided to take it apart to see if I could fix the problems. Once opened and looking at the board it was obvious why the switch didn't work correctly, the PCB was installed with only 1 screw holding it at the top of the board and the bottom of the PCB was not affixed by anything allowing it to slightly flex when pressing either the +/- buttons. From the factory the board had two screws to secure the PCB, one at the top and one at the bottom. Taking that single remaining screw out of the PCB I found the factory installed double sided foam tape that had held the OLED in place had been removed and replaced with a piece of Kapton tape going across the very bottom of the OLED which explained why the top of the OLED was able to lean inward and was unsupported.

It took me a couple days to find a replacement screw to fit the threads in the enclosure to secure the PCB correctly, and after fixing those issues I can now see the entire text on the screen without being cut off and the buttons have never failed to close since. So while I'm thankful that Evolv replaced the board in my device and saved me a lot of grief with dealing with Gearbest, I wasn't so happy that the board failed to begin with and costing me more in shipping and handling or that I had to repair it once I received it back from RMA service.

That being said it should last me a very long time since I've mostly quit using the DNA 200 in part due to how it works but mostly due to the potential security vulnerabilities that may exist in the software. Maybe when they release firmware that isn't dependent on Escribe I'll pull it off the shelf and give it another try.

Nice, how long does your 900mah last you if you only use Lavabox? Mine last me half a day firing 40w TC.
I vape at 30 watts in TC with 28ga SS430. Mine lasts longer than half a day but less than a full day. A lot depends on how much I'm vaping as well. It hard to really say because I have 5 DNA200 mods so if I'm going to be out all day, I'll either take 2 of the Lipos or my Hotcig DX200 which I have the 2 x 18650 battery compartment for. That's usually my out and about mod because it already a little nicked up from flying out of coat pocket while getting out of my car. It flew at least 10 feet down the cement driveway. Glass tank on the Bellus broke, battery compartment separated from the chip section. In the end it still works great. The least likely one to go outside is the Blood Red Lavabox because I would like to keep that one looking nice. When I'm home and one needs charging, I just grab another :)

Cheers,
Steve

First off that you would be unhappy with your Evolv product just shocks us all. We would have never imagined you would find fault with it :lol::lol:.

Secondly with the material tab you can load up any wire you think you might use then switch those wires to any of your 8 presets on the fly (no need to use Escribe). The only reason you would have to hook it up to your computer would be to upgrade, just like any other mod from Joyetech, Yihi, etc.

I personally like having Escribe. I like being able to customize my mods. I also like being able to go into the device monitor to see what's going on as I'm using it, but no one is forcing anyone to use it. I've heard many people complain about Yihi's software saying they wish it was easier to use like Evolvs. From my understanding, they are really playing catch-up with Evolv and not really making any headway!

Lastly you chose to buy the cheapest DNA200 mod you could find from China. You have problems with it and you blame Evolv's chip instead of your purchasing choice. If you would have done the same thing with a 350J chip, you would have blamed the mod maker and not the chip. On top of that Yihi would have voided your warranty because you would have got it under MAP. In the end I'm sure you would be fine with that scenario.

Cheers,
Steve

Steve, just a short (well not too short) note. I had the first beta reference device since last June and there has been many improvements since then. It was used daily, every day, and without issue since June, sometimes as much as 16 hours per day. About two weeks ago it stopped working so it was RMA'd to have it looked at. Turn around time counting the weekend was 7 days total. Works great and has 4th generation board in it now. Also I find it really funny how some folks say there is a high board failure rate for the DNA200 board. A lot of uninformed conjecture. I haven't said much about it but will give a bit of info I learned months ago.

The failure rate of the board is very low and is currently less than 1%. Over 200,000 boards are out in the wild. There is also a failure rate brought about by faulty installation by manufacturers.

Fast forward to today and we see Evolv will be coming out with a DNA75, single battery, 75 watt TC board. Many have asked for this ever since the DNA200 hit the market. Maybe I will be able to build a "stealthy" (very small) mod again. I miss the super small devices but have no idea of the dimensions of the new DNA75 nor the functionality. Gonna be interesting what this latest board will be and will do.

other than scratches/chips my only dna device that just needed a new battery after i obviously exhausted it was the hana so far. being willing to show up t their door the service was top notch. all my sxm devices the paint failed horribly. done with those because of that and i feel dna200 is superior.

i wonder if that lava battery fits the hana. that would be great. it has the right connectors. does anyone have the dimensions of it? if not i could just ask volcano but they might be wary of that question knowing what i am going to do. on the other hand don't know why they would care if i purchase a couple.

on another note it is bs efusion does not come set right. when google download finallly worked the xml file did not. in escribe. set the wh manually on all of them but not sure about the discharge curve. it is my favorite one i have 7 now. i would get another wismec if a local b&m had one. i do not like mail order unless i have to. just old fashioned.

While I agree with you about it being BS not having a mod set up from the mfr, I can say the new Efusion Mini comes set up. I also think that most mods with the earlier 200's were not set up from the maker either. I think the tide is turning & we will start to see mods come set up although my new Panzer wasn't set up either.

so you got a mini! how do the panels stick on? you can interchange them and it comes with two sets? are the materials "real"? pretty interested in that but like the 1300mah. efusion even not coming set up has been most reliable for me. except the clear cf the acrylic melted from some juice. i do think this is real cf because i feel the fabric peeling back. others said it is not real. i doubt real abalone though. do you know what that costs? looks good regardless.

The panels are stickers for carbon fiber like yours but supposed to be real carbon under the acrylic or wood vernier (ie stickers) Mine came installed with the carbon but my spare panels are the wood & they are like thick paper as a few reviews have mentioned.
I would sit tight if I were you, the Efusion Duo 133 will be released this week (hopefully) It's a dual 18650 mod with a removable tray & a lipo option. Supposed more choices coming for doors including stab wood choices. The size is only slightly larger than the Mini. Vaping Biker did a review on YouTube.

i used to can't wait for vape mail. now i even forget it is coming. after a while one has enough of this stuff. nothing is so special they are alll the same really if they are dna200.

i feel this is real cf with an adhesive backing. since where my acrylic was breached i have fabric peeling off. don't know. cf would not be hard at $170 but abalone would for sure. so would real stab wood. i guess the mini is just what it says, mini. not so different from the bigger one i suppose. 123 is no interest either really. i have gone from only wanting 18650 like wisemec to preferring lipo. i am very happy with all seven of these so i gues i could sit tight. the dna200 is already getting long in the tooth by technology standards. at this point i will wait for a new chip to come out. i have 16 dna200 devices so i am covered now lol.

fishwater, thank you for the advice however. i mean this chip is so established we are discussing mods now and not even the chip anymore in this thread.

My "tracking OCD" is running full tilt currently, got tracking on my Protovapor Silo a couple of days ago.
I don't get all that excited with vape mail like I used to but this one is an exception.

Sweet looking mod...... nice size...... best 510 connector ever.....Protovape does a great job building the mods.... one year warranty is a plus...

Enjoy .... and let us know what ya think after "kicking the tires" on it....

I was looking around their site and they do some board warranty work with Evolv, they will change out your under warranty DNA200 board charging to take the board out and repairing or replace with a new one. They list the service for $1 but you start a ticket with them and they price it then. For stuff like Wismec DNA200's where the folks can't get anything from the manufacturer.

darn. you can't get anything from wismec? i really wanted a new battery cover. not a huge deal but i hold that mod special. simply because of the 3x 18650. i had no idea they do not service it, stand behind it or whatever. this is why i like american mods. you can obviously see why i like hana where others do not. i always seem to show up at their door! i have to leave at like 3am to get there at 0am when they open. if you get there later they might turn you away. i just heard that don't know. i do know they have been super nice to me. what are they really going to do to an old man that just drove 7 hours though. i don't know others experiences but i believe them. i am just at a bit of an advantage showing up and they are probably also impressed with how old i look. that is the only reason hana is my favorite one. it has actually broken more often than others. it is just good i am willing to drive there to my advantage. i cannot exactly drive to china lol. i would not even go on a plane just for that. 7 hour card ride, weird....flying to china insane lol. i am really sad to hear there is no service on wisemec though. any way i can get a batttery cover? i thought to just buy an rx to get it but wrong color. hmm. maybe look custom though. now no one here has a rx left even. those things sell like hot cakes. guy here had 5 dna200 and sold them in literally less than 5 minutes including one to me. it is like it is a darn top hat or something. soon they will be on ebay for ten grand. i really like the efusion too. i am convinced it is real cf. however i doubt real abalone. too expensive that quality. how do the panels stick on the mini? adhesive? can you peel them off? i am afraid to peel off my panels. heard some snapped.

sorry for wall of text!
