Well, I followed the link, and have to say, Evolv absolutely made the right choice concerning his "offer".
They were pretty clear in one of the responses that they wouldn't entertain the possibility of outside help (a sound decision in and of itself), but even if they would have, it would have been highly irresponsible for them to place their intellectual property into the hands of someone who was acting so immaturely, not to mention using the wrong method of contact for such an offer in the first place. One can't help but question his motives.

To those complaining about no mac support..... Numbers don't lie. When you factor in the percentage of Mac users that would fall into the target base of this chip, that percentage will probably drop to 1, maybe 2%. Let's take that a step further, and cut that to the percentage of those Mac users who are unable to figure out any of the various methods of running a Windows program on their mac...... You are probably looking at less then .5%....it makes perfect financial sense to put mac support on the low end of importance to allocate resources to. Will that .5% not be able to use this chip? No, they can still use it fine, they will just have to a) find a way to get the updates and run the software (I.e. learn how to use their mac) or b) use it at factory settings and wait patiently for the software to be ported over to Mac. What percentage of those remaining .5% will be unwilling to do those two options? So they lose maybe .25% in possible sales, but come out well ahead on saved time and resources better allocated to more important matters. That's just sound business.
Sent with one hand, the other is busy vaping.

I wish I could build something too. I can't even use a soldering iron anymore. back in the day I did a lot of projects. I am no engineer but I could follow instructions and read a simple schematic. I will just wait until it is in a mass produced mod that is available. I will certainly get it. I meant no hard feelings about scrambled screens. I don't really mind even though I seemed to state the contrary. although mine did stay scrambled until battery removal. still fine with me. I really look forward to this. what is odd about this is every other chip just showed up. this seems to have a fanfare going long before rtm. which is also fine with me. in fact maybe by having beta testers this round they make a better product. I really look forward to this. I would get the one that is out but it is sold out everywhere I know of. I know this is taboo here but I feel it will also be interesting what yihi comes up with. this is a great time in this "hobby". when I started all they had were things like blu. to compare the production and taste we have now is nothing short of amazing to me. they are even plug and play if that is what one wishes for. I am just really enjoying this ride. I wish I could have it now and build it myself but good things come to those that wait. I can't even but doing my best to be patient. this is really terrific. I am happy about this guys and I meant no bad apples whatsoever. no mac pun intended. I know I am sounding stupid but I want this thing in my hands asap! at least evolve is not like say grand innovations lol.

I would have an issue if the screen stayed scrambled until a battery pull. Evolv has been really good about replacing defective boards from what I've read. I've bought DNA40s from Nov 14 to just last month.

I have a SX350j mod too. I was curious because of all the great reviews on the SX Mini M Class. I really didn't like the SXM case (put it up for sale 3 days after receiving one) but the chip wasn't bad so I bought a Boxer that uses the same chip. The end result is that they both give good vapes but it bothers me when people post lies about either. It's a disservice to anyone that comes to these forums to learn about either product. I do like my DNA40's better.

House of Vapor has both black annodized and nickel finish Opus 200 in stock now for $229. (I'm sooooo tempted)

My nephew was willing to sign a NDA and being a professional, he's not going to risk his reputation by making Evolvs software public. There was zero risk involved for Evolv and a lot to gain. It was pretty dumb of them to decline his offer.

@Lemwise it's actually quite smart of Evolv to not get into minor computer platforms right now. The smart move would be to finish development on the largest (by far) PC platform and ensure stability and finalize the feature set of their software and then port the finalized version to the niche market platforms like the Mac. If you take a look at the early adopters forum they have set up they are adding features and working with the early purchasers to create a robust software solution for their DNA200. I saw a request for a charging voltage cutoff to be lowered to 4.1v instead of 4.2v to add a greater amount of total charge cycles (at the cost of a slightly lower total vape time per charge) for a LiPo batttery by one of the members and it was implemented within 3 days. In fact, John added a choice or 4.2 or 4.1v from the user software. So it's clear they are adding features requested by their users at an accelerated pace and doing a great job of being very proactive to user feedback.

To try and maintain development on multiple platforms at this time would be extremely challenging and would be a huge commitment of resources by Evolv. I think developing for the major computer platform first is really in everyone's best interest at this time. And it's not like Mac users are locked out of the party, but they will need to use a VM if they don't want to wait for the development cycle to get around to them. It's really not about your nephew's generous offer to port existing software, it's about a small company doing development in the most efficient way possible and doing the best job they can for the vast majority of potential users of their products.

I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple months they hit your nephew up and take advantage of his offer, but this seems like poor time for them to be considering multi platform development.

I don't understand. what do you feel I lied about? I may have seemed to have vented but I did not even mean to do that. if you mean the battery pull that was a real issue on a couple of them. honestly. I don't know what you feel I lied about. I mean nothing is perfect. I like the sx mini but the paint has failed completely on a few of them. I know I suggested differently but I am very flexible I really do not mind quirks in material things. it is no big deal to me. I was just saying ultimately being forced to I choose the sx mini over all my dna40 boxes. I also came clean and stated it was not exactly because I was dissatisfied with them. all of these devices work satisfactorily to me at the end of the day. I would not take this stuff so personally. none of these need to be defended. they all will suffice. I can just never wait to get my hands on the next greatest thing. that's all. I really did not man to downs speak anything and no hard feelings were intended. I know I originally came off that way but that is not really the way I meant what I said. if one of these has issues of any kind it is not such a big deal to me. even so they are fine. not only that I am reasonably sure the dna200 will be superior in every way. if they can flash the kernel to it I am sure any problems that are encountered can now be circumvented. I am sure I wil be very pleased when I get mine. I had no issues with the dna40 personally that bothered me so much. as said even with a scrambled screen it did not affect the vape whatsoever. which is actually their intended function in the first place. I was just pointing out there is room for improvement. obviously or they would not have come out with a successor. these things just do not bother me so much. I think what I originally said got people to read me wrong. I was stating a fact. that fact did not really matter to me. unfortunately as I said earlier I was forced to dump a lot of stuff. nothing to be proud of but I admit I have some personal issues. all said and done if I could I would own each and every mod on the planet. regardless of their strong suits or weaknesses. I just take relish in these things. however they are stil material things and I just don't find fault with inanimate objects. I did not wish for anyone here to be upset with me.

You guys have absolutely no idea how the modern software development world works. I am a program manager for a tech company and most of our hires are remotely located. It's not as easy as you would think to find quality programmers locally and expensive to relocate them, and its so common now a days to have remote workers its a no brainer.

This has nothing to due with IP's, as the process for remote hiring requires thoroughly reviewing the applicant's past work history, references, direct contact with past employers, reviewing contract data like monetary sizes and lengths, programming languages, frameworks and multiple video interviews. It also requires usually direct communication via skype at all times during the work hour and a screen monitoring software/time logging that allows you to see at all times past and present what the contractor works on.

On top of that, a stack of legal documents ranging from Non-Disclosures, Source code ownership rights, Citizenship Forms and a bunch of other legal binding contracts. There are specific clauses for breach of contract from code leaks to browsing the internet in work hours for personal use. I could go all day with the protections, including payment protection using escrow.

Now, lets go onto this super secret intellectual code that I keep hearing about. Creating software to monitor the chip in the way Evolv does is peanuts, and it will take china no longer than a month to reproduce. They likely have been working on it anyway, and come chinese devices already have software to support their mods. They can also get a bunch of info from reverse engineering and disassembly anyway, but this code is simple so I doubt they would need it. The programmer got mad because John wouldn't even entertain the idea of cross platform applications, ignoring his post completely until he demanded an answer. He didn't handle it in the best manner, but he forced the issue and im glad he did, now we know they don't care to invest in it.

If Evolv was smart, they would just open source the code. Its not like its not going to be cloned any day now and they're only hurting there consumers because there not willing to make versions for other operating systems. And the 90% windows argument doesn't apply anymore. If you look at the numbers excluding business, education and other non-consumer markets, the sales of windows vs mac daily support developing for both because macs are growing rapidly in the consumer households.

The stats below show the share of OS's shipped by year, with apple and microsoft nearly tieing. Considering most households cycle computers every 4-6 years, that would mean your looking at a much higher adaptation rate for apple OS's. Apple’s Mac marketshare hit record highs during the third calendar quarter of 2014, according to research firm IDC. Official numbers from the firm’s quarterly PC trackershow that Apple’s Q3 shipments topped 2.34 million Macs moved during the quarter in the U.S., giving it 13.4 percent market share and putting it in third place behind HP and Dell. That’s the best market share Apple has every achieved in the PC market, which for IDC’s purposes, doesn’t even include tablets like the iPad.

Worldwide Device Shipments by Operating System
Source Year Android iOS/OS X Windows Others
Gartner[2] 2014 48.61% 11.04% 14.0% 26.34%
Gartner[3] 2013 38.51% 10.12% 13.98% 37.41%
Gartner[4] 2012 22.8% 9.6% 15.62% 51.98%

I don't understand either why they haven't released it as FOSS. If the hardware is of superior quality people will still buy their boards. Open sourcing the software means they would have the benefit of a large group of developers working on it on a volunteer basis (which in turn makes the software better than something slapped together in China) and it doesn't cost them a thing. Open sourcing the software also means they would create a loyal following. I see only benefits to opening up the software.

Does anyone know the resistance the dna200 will actually operate down to? I don't recall seeing it anywhere.
Should be able to start building mine any day now :D been staring at the chip since Wednesday!

KTM....... I hate you..... but my credit card company likes you...LOL (black)
I didn't know HoV had them in stock until last night when I went to the Opus site and it had a link to HoV. Spent an hour thinking about ordering one last night. In the end, the overall shape and size overshadowed shinyitis and I'll continue to wait for the VS version.

Thanks KTM. Took about 30 seconds for me to cave and put my order in.

Like many I am waiting for Vaporshark, but as the days go by I was beginning to regret not grabbing an Opus meantime. I'm too klutzy to build my own so this will be my one to play with.

0.08 ohm at 200 watts is 50 amps. that is a pretty high amp rating even for lipos unless you are using 2000mah and above with a 25C constant. but then again if the max input of the batteries is 23amps how the heckle can the board spit out 50 amps.

Not the super brightest in battery and electronics but 50 amps from a 23amp input?

I think it's due to the fact that the board would be outputting 50 amps at 4 volts while the board is 12 volts, 23 amp

I also kinda regretted not ordering an Opus at the start but I was getting used to the wait. Until I saw it was in stock at HoV. The nickel looked like cheap gold plating in the pics but other pics I found looks really nice. So there was about 10 mins of going back and forth with the color. Then there's the 2 DNA200 boards I have coming from the co-op. And there's finally a NJ vape expo in 2 weeks and Vaporshark will be there. I'm hoping they'll have a few DNA200's to sell :D.
