Well, I got a box done last night with my dna chip along with USB charger board. I am using an 18350 AW IMR battery due to limitations on the size of the box that I want. I am having a small issue with it.
Atty connector is getting the correct power, USB charger board is working as intended but I can not get the thing to go over like 1 volt. The vape is miniscule at best. No matter what direction I turn the potentiometer it does not make any changes to the power.
I wired everything up the way the chip says too. I almost went a different direction until I remembered all the ports on the chip wanted everything going through it in a specific manner. IE: I almost wired the switch inline with the atty connector.
I guess the main question I would have is there a specific reason why this would be happening? IE: wires not strong enough, potentiometer not big enough etc.. In other words, does anyone know if non regulated wattage in this manner, a common issue with something specific in how it is operating?
I did not want to tear the entire project down unless I had too. Getting the solder out of the ports on the chip is a major pain in the ... if I have to redo the wiring.
I love the size of this thing. The power of a Darwin in the palm of my hand. It literally is half the size of a pack of smokes.
I can get pics later. I am posting this at work at the moment. If anyone has ever seen the Wall Plug USB charger for a smoketek ego... that is the box I used. I gutted one and pulled the wall prongs out of it.

are you actually getting a 1v output? How are you testing that? is it a loaded test? Are you actually connecting an atty and vaping it? have you tried multiple atomizers?

After that..

did you follow the guide for wire gauges?
What are the specs on your pot?

No, I am not offended. I have been looking back on some of the other posts about the DNA and trying to figure out what I might have done differently. The only issue is possibly the wire gauge on the pot might not be ideal. Considering how small the prongs on the pot were, the wire I used for connection seemed admissible.
I will admit though that I am not 100% sure on the measurements of the pot. I am using the same spec pot I was using from another project involving a VV circuit evercool mod and it worked fine with that. At the time I bought it I knew what it was and it was what everyone recommended for the evercool.
I am kind of curious if that is what it is. I figured after reading up that if the pot was not good enough it would just revert itself to an 8w load. It doesn't seem this way.
I am using an HH357 2.5ohm atty and it works fine in my Provari. I have an inline atty circuit tester and it is reading 1.47 amps continuous throughput on the voltmeter. I brought the voltmeter and pass through circuit with me to work and taking a reading of the volts while under load is showing .85 volts. Just weird.
I hope it is not the problem of using a battery that is too small. I really want to make this a small unit. It should be rated at 8C. It is an AW IMR 700mah 18350.

The battery should deffinitely not be the issue here, I think 5c is 'recommended' and it'll work on less but it shouldn't drop that dramatically. The voltage out is irrelevant in the long run when testing without a load because the board is going to read the resistance and output voltage to match your user defined wattage. The wattage shouldn't be dipping so low that it drops to .85v. Do you have a spare pot laying around or have a part number for the pot? I'm gonna assume the pot is the problem right now though it could be an issue with the actual darwin board. Need to confirm all your components before we go pointing a finger at evolv though.

Agreed. If I have too many problems. I will end up just calling my contact at Dimension. The pot I am using is the one on this page. Evercool I had a couple left over and was hoping it would work. I might just end up picking up one of the 10k ones they have on Madvapes.


Edit - Curious if I pick this up, what would I do with all the other ports?

A 200 ohm pot is N/G.
A pot between 1K and 10K will work.

ahh yeah, you're pot is way off recommended specs. I'd just pick up another from Mouser or digikey. I hate ratshack. Mouser ships pretty fast if you order an instock item.

additional note: you are looking for a "linear taper" pot, on mouser/digikey you can filter results by the taper to make it a little easier to pick out a pot from the 10s of thousands they have

Well, I got a 10k pot from Madvapes and it still is not working as intended. I even gave it a bigger battery. Its almost as if it is worse than how I had it before. Not really sure what is going on now.

In my tests a 200ohm pot seemed to work fine. Are you sure it's hooked up correctly? There should be three leads that need to be hooked up, the middle one being W or the wiper then + and - are the outer two. Having those three connections are critical to it setting the watts.

Yes, I have the three leads connected properly. The DNA cheap is easy enough to read which goes where. I have read all the info in the data sheet also and so far everything lines up with what I am using. Maybe I should just see about getting a new chip.
