Do E-Cigs leave you breathless like 'real' cigs?

Started off a month ago with 18mg juice after a suggestion from the forum, it was spot on! many have gone higher, some lower.. only real way is to try it yourself.. for someone just quitting I've tested a few of my smoker friends and they find anything under 12mg too light, anything over 24mg too "thick" (their choice of words).

If you don't mind doing a bit of "legwork" I would recommend you get a 18mg little bottle of juice (maybe 24mg depending on what you smoked before), and some 0nic juice of the same flavor.. and run a couple of tests for yourself. Once you have your nicotine preference down you can look into different flavors to find one that suits you

I have been using ecigs, nicotine/marlboro flavor for about 6 months. I am now having major breathing problems, i smoked analogs for 20 years. Ecigs helped me quit, but they are NOT good for u, i find it difficult to catch my breath, its the most frustrating and scary feeling, so ive dropped the vaping. I just quit ecigs today, so ill let u know how quitting affects my breathing in a week or so, I also want to see a doc to see if there may be a med reason for what im goin thru. So dont think ecigs are the answer, in my experience they are a good way to quit analogs but NOT an alternative. There needs to be scientific studies done on ecigs as they relate to lungs, because right now there is NO official info. Vapors beware!
Hmm, sounds more like you had developed a chest infection, or experienced an allergic reaction to either a new ingredient or an environmental change.

It's very possible that vaping irritates the lungs of some former smokers. It may be a reaction to one of the eliquid ingredients, or it may be the 20 years of smoking that came before vaping. It may also be a side effect of quitting smoking; maybe the lungs are clearing themselves out. It does not seem to be the norm, however. Most vapers do seem to enjoy easier breathing after switching...but not all of them do.

Re chest problems. Besides seeing your doctor in case it is something totally unrelated - medium and high nicotine is 100% or high PG has the potential to irritate your mouth, tongue, throat and in extreme cases lungs. Nicotine is a skin irritant. Even patches warn of skin irritation. When I started out with a very small ecig, 18mg in 100% PG irritated my tongue to the point where it felt sore and burnt. I switched to 70PG/30VG juices and the problem went away (VG smooths/dulls the flavor, TH and irritation). Now that my nicotine is lower I use 80PG/20VG and some 100% PG because it helps my cartomizers work well longer.

flasponge, I can't tell where you live or how easy it is for you to obtain e-liquid but you might consider something with little or no flavoring. I found some flavorings trigger an allergic reaction and makes my throat and lungs feel not so good. I've been making my own liquid with minimal flavoring and my throat and lungs feel 100% better. Some of us don't fare well with heavily flavored liquids. If you don't DIY, something along the Ecopure line might work for you.

I hope you receive good news from your doctor and good luck with the quit.

Vape as much as you want, as strong as you want, as often as you want for the first month or so. After that I recommend taking it down if you're interested in tapering off. I myself use vaping as an alternative to smoking, so I'm staying put at a nice comfy 24mg until I decide to change (I have not had any side effects of staying at 24).

Keep in mind your mind will be playing tricks on you for the first couple of months and then again in spats over the first 6 months or so. You will feel sick - you will probably want to blame vaping - but you need to understand that the cigs will haunt you from the grave, so to speak. I hope you are successful!

God help anyone that posts a problem with vaping. This sort of response has been addressed by many in the health section. E-cigs may have saved my life and my lungs feel like they were 20 years ago now, but it's not productive to flame everyone that has a problem with an e-cig or blame every health issue on "giving up cigarettes". When do we stop blaming cigs for all reactions? 6 months? 1 year? 2 years?

It's also amazing the anti-smoking, anti-tobacco co and anti-pharma (like they care) sentiment here... My God we all smoked and sound like a bunch of anti-smokers chastizing others for their evil ways.

ECF needs more tolerance and less h8!
