Do I really want/need a different cart filler?

New Vaper here, been vaping for 2 weeks and I love it. Bought EVO and 401 accessories and its been working great. Analogs are almost history.

That being said, I read some threads here where people have spoke of "leaching". Please correct me if Im wrong but I guess this is when the polyfil from the cart would either burn or just pull off the cart and go into the vapor - then into my lungs.

Not sure how much harm this causes as Im sure we all inhale fibers and tiny particles everyday, especially while we are sleeping. Now if this "leaching" is more harmful than that, then I would want to find a different filler for my cart.

Many people are searching for the cartridge filler that will hold the most e-juice and wick the best. I personally dont care at this point how many times I need to "top off" my cart because even with polyfil I seem to get more than enough pulls out of a freshly filled cart and polyfil wicks fine for me.

Here's my dilemna. If polyfil is bad then the only thing I would want is something that doesnt leach and will fit into my 401. As long as it will wick as good as my polyfil and hold at least 3/4 as much juice then I am fine with that. Im scared of the Fluval, and the fish filter material as I believe that when plastics heat up they will break down and release some of their chemical compound. The Brass screen and Stainless screen seem like the best options over polyfil for me, only problem is fitting them into my 401. Has anyone fit one of these 2 mods into a 401? If so, could you explain how and post pics for me? Thanks.

Leaching is more of a concern with custom mods.... i.e. chemicals or bad fumes coming out of our chosen filler as it gets wet or heated. Polyfil (standard cart filling or even fluval polishing pads which apparently are made from polyester) are generally deemed to be safe. The only problem with the poly is that over time they tend to wick less and less, and sometimes wick poorly right out of the box.

If you are happy with the performance of your carts as they come, there is no need to do anything differently or try all of these cart mods.

I have had the best wicking success with factory carts. The big trick, I found, since I use a penstyle atty, was finding the right manufacturer cart for the right manufacturer atty. Believe it or not, but I found the Boge JKY-302 carts worked best in my Kissbox atty. You would think a Kissbox cart would have been the more appropriate match. The difference in wicking and ability to drain the majority of the cart was night and day.

Polyfill, and other materials are ok, they do work. I found myself tinkering around with the carts too much, trying to get the right density of filler, and finally converted almost exclusively to dripping, mostly out of frustration. If topping off regularly doesn't bother you, perhaps dripping may be a method to try. Just make sure your batteries are sealed (no hole for liquid to seep into).

The best thing to do is search for EVO or 401 and see what filler people have had the best luck with for those atty's.

Then again, if your factory carts are working out for you, perhaps the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" may apply here

Polyfill doesn't leach or burn (has a high temperature melting point). It does get little 'hairs' down into your atomizer, by getting stuck on the metal bridge material. Not a big deal. Brass screen WILL leach the green corrosion caused by it being wet (brass which gets verdigris corrosion) into your liquid. A decision you'll have to make yourself (I'm not willing to do it).

The atomizers don't heat enough to cause a problem with the polyester fillers and it doesn't sit directly on the heated atty wire. The wire bridge stays cooler and sits above the heating wire. Liquid is wicked down into a small ceramic pot that the atomizer wire sits above.

The big search for a replacement material by users is that we all want a better release material for the cartridge filler to distribute the liquid better, not because the current one is unsafe.

Thanks all. I was a little concerned. I havent been happy with the PTB mod, Just doesnt seem to wick as good as my poly and alot of the juice stays at the bottom of the cart.

I will continue to use Poly until something just as safe but wicks better comes along.

I've been reading a lot of people are having success with using both Poly and the PTB method. You essentially wrap the poly inside a PTB and stuff it into the cart. Prevents the hairs from the poly burning on the atty and gives you the wicking of the poly. Kind of the best of both worlds...
