FWIW, I never fell for any of the "free" trial scams, but I did buy in to the SE shtick a number of years ago at the local mall kiosk. I ended up spending close to $200 on the kit, extra cartriges, etc., and like so many others, it didn't really do the trick for me. Fair's fair - the SE rep was very helpful and replaced a dead atty a week or two into my attempting to make the rig work for me.

At the time, I thought "well, this isn't gonna cut it, but it's an interesting idea; let's wait and see how this whole e-smoking thing develops". Then I put the SE kit in the closet and didn't think about it again until recently. A coworker of mine was turned onto what looks like someone's branded 510 by his cardiologist, and was happily showing it off at work one day a couple of months ago.

That encounter showed me that, in the ~5 years since my SE experience, the hardware had clearly evolved into something worth investigating. Which is what I did. I spent hours and hours reading posts on other forums and watching hours of YouTube footage to wrap my head around what had developed. It didn't take long for Google to bring me here, where I've spent even more time educating myself on how PVs work, what some of the pitfalls are (esp. battery life), and how to do things like cleaning a clogged atty, mix my own ejuice, and even stealth-vape.

I eventually settled on an eGO-T, and love it, and also got a 510-T for the analog-feel of a mini/penstyle (both from Cignot, BTW. I love you Vicki!). Along the way, I turned my sister on to the goodness of vaping. Another coworker of mine DID fall for one of the scams, and was very turned off by the whole eSmoking "thing". He went back to analogs, but I sometimes catch him staring a little too long at my 510. That makes me smile. I predict that he'll be a convert before the summer's over; his wife hates that he smokes.

Point is - yes, the free-trials thing is unfortunate 'cos it gives eCigs a bad rep. And yes - the mall-kiosk devices are overpriced, underperformers, and their marketing is filled with hyperbole that doesn't really help our cause very much. But, if it hadn't been for these bottom-feeders, I might not have got where I am now. I've been analog-free for just over two weeks, quitting a PAD+ habit of 30 years, overnight.

That's not to say that I give 'em a free pass.. I've already begun sending the link to this thread around to warn some of the other folks I know who would like to quit smoking and be just tempted enough to get burned by one of them. Also, I'm going to try to get kicked out of the mall by standing within sight of the SE kiosk, puffing away on my eGO. "Never mind those toys - this is a REAL eCig." - that also makes me smile.

Rustybikes... I would send you a PM but it appears you can not receive them yet.

Would you mind if I used your post in another forum to show people why getting good equipment is important?
And if so, would you prefer that I use your screen name or make it anonymous?

Yeah.. I'm still a little "too" new here to get PMs or post anywhere else.. yet.

Feel free to reuse my post as needed. You can use my screenname and all. Anything to help spread the word.. :)

So how is everyone?

Doing great, how about yourself?

I noticed the large amount of infomercials on the radio promoting cheap ecigs. It made me wonder why a company/business owner would want to kill their market before it really matures? I mean think about it, sure you make a bit of immediate money off of slinging cheap ecigs. However, 80% of your customer base won't rebuy because of bad quality, low batt life, etc. Makes me glad that I found vaping on my own a few years back. It was my curiosity, and sites like this, that allowed me to make a conscious decision to buy a quality PV and learn how to vape with quality products. If I had went the other route, I would probably have given up.
