Hello, everyone.

Whilst browsing Facebook, an ad popped up on the right side advertising e-cigs. I was interested, since it was the first time I had seen an advertisement like that, so I took the bait.

What follows is the most pathetic set of web pages I have seen in possibly my lifetime.

Granted, the Jacksonville Times - Health: The Future Of Smoking website that the ad points you to isn't all that bad. Really the only thing that sticks out to me as complete lie is the fact that it states: "They are fully re-chargeable and each E-Cigarette can last a full day on one single charge."

Other than that, all seems fine, and this site is offering a "risk-free trial" of an e-cig to consumers who sign up through the website, and there are quite a few comments below who seem to signify that folks are signing up. HOWEVER, if you notice the fine print at the very bottom of the page:

THE STORY DEPICTED ON THIS SITE AND THE PERSON DEPICTED IN THE STORY ARE NOT REAL. RATHER, THIS STORY IS BASED ON THE RESULTS THAT SOME PEOPLE WHO HAVE USED THESE PRODUCTS HAVE ACHIEVED. THE RESULTS PORTRAYED IN THE STORY AND IN THE COMMENTS ARE ILLUSTRATIVE, AND MAY NOT BE THE RESULTS THAT YOU ACHIEVE WITH THESE PRODUCTS. THIS PAGE RECEIVES COMPENSATION FOR CLICKS ON OR PURCHASE OF PRODUCTS FEATURED ON THIS SITE.

Anyone seeing that should immediately be turned off. Why make a fake news story? Just seems sort of stupid.

But, anyway, following the link for the trial, I was offered a 12 day trial of the VaporPak e-cig... which looks no different than any other, really, except they say the cart lasts a full 20 cigs (obviously a lie). But then, you must click on the "Terms" page at the bottom to get more goodies:

The 12 day trial period starts on the day you place your order and includes processing and transit time. Upon ordering, you agree to pay the non-refundable $9.95 shipping and handling fees for the trial offer. Unless you call customer support to cancel before the end of the 12 day trial period, you will you be charged a discounted price of only $99.10 automatically. By accepting this Trial, you will also be enrolled in our Cartridges Refill Autoship Program. You will After the 12 days from your trial order date and every 30 days thereafter you will be sent 4 cartridges (1 packs) which equal to 30 day supply (Usage may vary) of Vapor Pak E-Cigarette and the form of payment that you used to order the trial will be billed the Member's Only price of $45.81 which includes the shipping and handling for the monthly supply.

....8-o. In my mind, this sounds like nothing but a scam and WILL turn the unfortunate folks who fall for this crap against e-cigs. Such a shame, really.

"Ironically," the comments on the "news story" are closed due to "spam." :(

Just figured I would share this with everyone, since it caused a bit of... :-x... from me.

I agree that it will turn off some, but there are those out there like myself that will then do more research into e-cigs and come here, and through all the posts find a unit that better meets their needs and desires.

I was a SE victim, but I chalked my cost up to learning and just added it to my total cost for vaping for the purposes of tracking my break even (I may not! LOL...I love trying different flavors!)

Looks like a typical business to me...
Fine print is always how "trials" make the company a massive amount of money from first time customers who obviously won't go back to them.

Sad though, these are the people that are advertising. They probably have a terrible product, but somehow got the financial backing to advertise them. Just think of how many people will look at e-cigs negatively after that...

I agree. I saw an ad for the Blu Cig and finally ended up finding my way here after MONTHS of research... not really sure how it took me that long to find the forum, but oh well. I guess because I was specifically looking for stuff about BLU... I didn't know there hundreds of different kinds of e-cigs! 8-o

So, luckily, my first was a Joye 510, thanks to this forum.

Yes, I agree, it isn't a new concept, but $45.00 for carts?! Think of the juice that would buy!

Seriously, though... the folks who sign up for that are gonna be spending as much (if not more) than they do on cigs. What kind of person would back and advertise such an immoral business practice? Hm... maybe Big Tobacco? LOL.

I will be complaining to Facebook about this advertisement as soon as I see it again.

I've heard these "free cigarette" ads many times on the radio here in Tampa.

Always wondered exectly what the catch was.

By the way, they say something like " We can't say that our E cigarette will help you quit smoking, but many have."

This is the legal twist where you can't make a claim, but CAN give testimonials from people who have used your product and achieved what you can't claim. In the case of E cigarettes I have no problem with that technique !

Who would back it? Think about gym memberships, credit cards, subscription services, etc.. There's a lot of it out there, apparently in the PV business too.

But god, $45 for carts???? They'd last you a week or two at best, the juice you could get would last a month. I guess that company has to pay for its advertising somehow...

Interesting thing about facebook... they cater their ads towards your personal interests and your browsing history. (NoScript keeps that away for me thankfully). I wonder how many people really buy into them without at least having some sort of prior knowledge.

LOL. It says they send 4 carts a month for $45. Um... 4 carts in a month? That would last me like 4 days. I don't understand how it's supposed to work.

But, still... how ridiculous. You can get a 5-pack of carts for $5.

4 a month for $45? is that a recurring charge? I hope not...
If it isn't that just shows you how long they expect to stay in business.
Unbelievable. With 4 carts, I'd kill that in a day or two.

Yes, it is recurring. This is why I am referring to it as "immoral business practices." 8-o
