What about the ones who don't realize that only the wattage setting and battery charge affect the amp draw in a regulated mod, and the ohms don't actually matter? If the resistance is too low for the mod, it simply won't fire. If it's not too low, then 100 watts, for example, is simply 100 watts to the battery, no matter what the resistance is. If the battery (or two batteries in parallel -- you'll see why in a minute) is/are at full charge of 4.2 volts, then 100 watts draws 100/4.2 = 23.8 amps. When they're lower in the charge cycle, at 3.2 volts for example, then (unlike with a mech mod, where the amp draw is highest at full charge) the amp draw is actually higher, at 100/3.2 = 31.25 amps. This is more than any single 18650 battery can safely put out which is why you'll need a dual-parallel battery setup, so the amp draw is shared equally across both batteries.

Good information. More people need to be including this information in their new vaper instructional videos. I can't tell you how many of these I've watched and I never heard anyone mention this.

I remember back when I was a youngster and my friends and I built a ramp to jump our bikes over. We didn't have a death wish, we just wanted to be cool like Evel Knievel. Little did we know we'd have as much success as he did with his Caesar's Palace jump in the early 70's.
I have no problem with someone that is trying to push the envelope. It's the ones that don't even know the envelope exists that worry me. Because they're the ones that get the headlines (And the YouTube "fail" videos). :nah:

That's right the idiots get the press and make vaping look bad and dangerous. I couldn't stand it any more and started this thread.

Good news is no news. Media prefers a tragic view of the human condition. It's what gets the ratings. Always has been, always will and vaping doesn't get a pass on this.

It never fails to amuse me when folks who don't understand how Ohm's Law applies to a regulated VW device go out of their way to chastise others for "unsafe" low resistance builds. Seriously, before engaging in a nonsensical rant, perhaps first learn how battery drain works in a VW mod.

Oh... and, if you don't vape like I do, you are doing it wrong.

Almost every day I see new vapers doing their Best to push the envelope way beyond safety levels.

People seem to think that just because a mod will Fire up to 200 watts. That is not why you get a 200 wstt device.

The reason you get a 200 watt device is so you can find a satisfying vape, and the batteries will last a good long time.

The other group that has me PULLING MY HAIR OUT is the person who get a mod that can fire all the way down to .15 or .05 then they come here and ask people to help them wrsp a coil that puts them on the razors edge of safety. Without understanding battery safety ot if their batteries can deal with a build that low, and not taking the time to understand resistance of Ohm's law.

Why do people insist in turning a safe mod into a pipe bomb?!

I think you're crossing your wires, lol. VW devices will (should anything can happen) shut off if the ohms are too low, shorted, and/or if there was an accidental auto fire. Now I will say I don't trust any safety as they can fail but the razor edge build is not as dangerous on a VW as you may think. The biggest danger is using a mech. mod with too low ohms (the potential pipe bomb, you mention) as there is not built in safety. There are some people that may be newer to vaping doing this, as it is a cheaper route. The thing is, it is only cheaper if the consumer is buying a cheap charger, cheap (wrong) batteries, and can find a shop actually selling a clone cheap. I'm sure there are local shops that do but around me most clone mechs. are in the $50 and up range.

I am personally glad they are making these 200w mods, it lowers the price of smaller mods and in turn makes them a cheaper option over a mech. Around me one can buy a Smok cube II for about $80 so only about 30 more than a mech., this keeps people that aren't ready for a mech. away from them. They can get the low vape they want and not be as dangerous. I love my mech. mods, all I use but I also know my batteries, I never build below .25, mainly .3 to .5. While some do use unsafe practices, I do believe they are a smaller number than you think. It is more of the media pushing people to believe that safety is lacking, rather than the truth.

Without knowing any of these individuals personally, it's probably the same reason they started smoking (if they ever did). They want to look cool to outsiders. Blow clouds and tricks like some Fresh Skater from So Cal.

More power to them. I love amusing myself with a big cloud, but I do it for me, and I am usually happy with a Nautilus Mini most days.

Unfortunately, its givng the rest of the vaping community a bad rep and the ANTZ plus ilk a good excuse for spoiling it for every vaper ...
I've never heard of somebody blowing their heads or hands off with a regulated mod.

Thats my point. You are going to fry the mod making it useless before you vent your batteries. And thats on something like an OKL board. On the mods most people have, it wont even fire. Either that or the watts on your display are not the watts you are vaping.

What happens when the person is using an atty on a mod that can fire very low buy they are using sketchy rewrapped batteries than can't fire that low?

The batteries can vent or explode.

See for me - now that I'm done laughing at the Preparation H thing - I used to be into that "super-sub ohming" thing. Building as low as .02-.04 Ohms. That was until my center post on my RDA started glowing from the immense heat being generated by the coil. I believe that coil I named the "Face Buster"... and for good reason. I also had a good understanding of what I was doing too. And I was ready to accept the risks of losing my fingers, having my mod get destroyed, and possibly destroying my atty as well. It was a quad strand parallel super-nano coil that did it by the way. But after I realized that the lower the resistance doesn't always mean better performance, I stopped building that low and went back to building above .1 Ohms. Today, I vape happily on my IPV3-Li @ a meager 45W. And on the atty I have up there now - any higher power would probably blow the soles off my feet. Granted I have 200W at my disposal, I just don't use that kind of power. Even at the lowest resistance that the IPV3 can fire at - 200W is still way to much power.

And yes - I meant .02 - .04 - NOT to be confused with .2 - .4

ANTZ conveniently gloss over the fact that it's the battery within the mod - not the mod - that does the funky dance.

If faulty or pushed beyond its specs, it doesn't matter whther its installed in a mod or laptop or model airplane.

Boeing got a few stories to tell about batteries going bad - B787 had some 'issues' with them too. Got grounded for a while, but didn't get banned.

Sub-ohming at 36000 ft in a dreamliner.... now that's pushing it ;)

Jesting aside - if B&M owners are obliging too willingls, the fast buck could cause some serious backlash.

Some threads here make it clear that lawyers are sharpening their pencils already...

I would assume at the worst, you will fry the board. There certainly is a reason every battery catastrophe we have seen reported is from a mech or hybrid and not the IPV, Sigelei and Smok device that evey novice uses.
