Nah they sent me an email asking me to send the first unit back... I'm getting around to it. Supposedly they redesigned the whole button so who knows how it used to mess up. Before they were using standard 801 atty's so prob wasn't them.

And yeah I don't know why they would create the hybrid atty and then release it with known problems. Support said they did it because users asked for it but here is the thing as a manufacturer, you can't cater to every customer and the customer does not know the real problems there requests could make. I see no reason why they should have changed it. Honestly I wish it was still a 801. This is why they either need a forum or should set one up here! They need to get to know there customers and communicate with them through something other then emailing the owner.

Yea, but far be it for us to suggest it to them, right? I wish they'd get on board with ECF so they could be more "in the loop" with their customers. For some reason though, I get the feeling they have been at odds with some forums in the past.

I just got my sp3 today it works great but I am afraid I was shipped the SP2 power unit and the SP3 atomizers. I dont want to end up with a unit they no longer make end caps for.
The reason I think it is a SP2 power unit is because the atty is screwed all the way down and there is a 1/4 inch gap. And I ordered the pink ones and the power unit is a darker hot pink like I saw in the pics of the SP2 and the atty is lighter completely different shade of pink. In the pics on the site they should match.
I have contacted them but havent heard back yet.
Anyone else get the pink and do they match and screw down all the way?

Mimmerfy, the atty doesn't screw all the way down on mine either...looks like 3 or 4 threads are bare. I'm pretty sure you got the SP3...not sure what to say about the pink colors though...mine's black.

After having this as my only PV for a few weeks now, I can tell you that the misfiring IS an issue. I don't see how, but it does seem to be after a day or two of usage. I may try the silver contact grease mentioned above, but for now I haven't really found a good way to really deal with it other than taking a few short "primer drags" prior to inhaling...

That said...It could also be that the fluval foam in my now month old carts may not be wicking correctly, so it may not actually be the button at all. When i get a chance, i want to replace the fluval foam stuff with blue foam and see if that helps the issue at all. But I have found that I can take the SP3 down and clean all the parts that make contact to fire it and it performs much better. It just doesn't stay that way. By the way, this is on a brand new atty....

By the way, I've just sent Sparkplug For Smokers an email stating that I'm having firing problems and asking them what I should do. I'll let you know what they say. If they tell me to buy a new button already, I'll buy something else, take this thing to the range and blow it to bits with my AR-15.

Yes. Sorry, I forgot to post. They're sending me a new one...either a button or another complete SP3...not sure which. I guess I'll find out today or tomorrow when it gets here. Might try calling them. I called the first time and talked to one of the useless office girls. They never know anything. I just asked if someone could call me back that knew something about them. A little while later the owner called me...ever since then, they usually respond within a day or two.

Their customer service seems good, but this is not a PV I would recommend to another noob at all.

OK, they sent me another entire SP3 minus the cart, atty, and batteries. Hopefully this one will be better. However, I did find out in the meantime that stretching the spring on the button, as well as a good soaking in alcohol went a long way toward repairing the button issue on my original one.

If soaking in alcohol helped, it says that the unit came to you with a layer of oil or dirt compromising the conductivity between the parts or that oil from your fingers did the same thing. No, I'm not saying you're a dirty guy;-)

Occasionally cleaning with a good metal cleaner like Flitz and coating the threads with Noalox (but not the threads for the atomizer) will help.

I received mine. Sure is light! Makes a nice cheap backup in case something goes wrong with my $150 PV. I use AW high drain batteries. They work in the SP3 but they're a bit short causing a little rattling sound. A Deal Extreme magnetic spacer or two should get that to stop.

Sounds good Kona! I'd say you may be correct about the dirt or oil. I had issues with it from the start. At first I thought it was the atty, but it just started working all of a sudden. I have had no issues at all with it since I cleaned the button and stretched the spring. Other than the cart filler stuff getting worn out, but I fixed that with some Fluval.

I'll try the Flitz stuff and need to get some Noalox anyway. Great suggestion. Let us know how you get along with yours, ok?

I've been dripping into that atomizer, so some liquid occasionally seeps into the tube from the batter connector since that brass piece isn't sealed. I imagine ejuice could potentially gum things up as well.

Absolutely!! I also have noticed some slight black discoloration on the brass and on the batteries. A little wipedown with a paper towel cleans it right up.
