Nana...that' reminds me, I have some 0mg VG that I have packaged up to send you from before DH went into the hospital the first time.  PM with you addy.  There's also a blank coolcart, which I find helps considerably with the coughing since the WOWcart burns too hot for me, most days 

  Nicotine, by itself is not nearly as addictive as the motion (hand to mouth) of smoking.  I had to drop to 0 and 4mg when I first started because I was almost blacking out from coughing.
Also, you do NOT have to inhale!  But, slow and steady wins this race...read the information on proper inhalation techniques and find what works best for you 
 
Plus, besides drinking lots of water (or low or non caffeine fluids) try a vaporizer at night.  Sadly, as we age, our jaw muscles weaken and we breathe more through our mouths, drying out our throats and sinus cavities.  I recommend the $25 personal vaporizer from Walgreens that uses a bottle of water as a reservoir 

 It has directional and vapor amount controls and has a small footprint 

  Failing that, try sleeping with a damp washcloth over your face
