do you have to use stainless steel cartos for carto tanks?

I ordered some black XL cartomizers so I could make a tank and whatnot and I figured they would have stickers, like the regular cartos I have been getting, and I could just peel the stick off. Well they don't have stickers they are painted black
Can I still use them?

Also what is the easiest way to punch a hole in the carto without using a carto punch?
I have seen people use screws and I saw one guy in the syringe tank mod video tank a dremel and cut a slit in the carto instead of punching a hole.

I don't understand why you would order black cartomizers in the first place knowing that you intended to put them in a tank. If I were you, I'd set those carto's aside and use them alone; I wouldn't use them in a tank.

Do yourself a huge favor and purchase some pre-punched cartos of the appropriate length for your tank. Being new to tanks, where there is a learning curve involved, you want to eliminate as many factors of human error as possible, and you haven't started out very wisely so far.

I personally wouldn't use them.....

Unless I knew for a fact exactly what type of paint was used, and the properties and toxicity of such paint it isn't worth the risk for something that costs a few dollars.

I've heard of nicotine softening up or even removing paint on some batteries, I wouldn't want something leeching from the paint into my juice.

I'm with the other guy in this thread, why did you buy black cartos planning to take the sticker off, and not just bare stainless ones in the first place?

Where did you get these painted ones? Good carto punches are only $6 now.

Do you realize where all of these cartomizers are manufactured? China. There are no regulations on using lead paint there. Why take the chance?

I clearly said I bought the XL cartos thinking they would have the stickers like the smaller ones I have been using and I could just take the sticker off.

do not use them with the paint on them !! there are ingredients in there you don't want be dissolved into the juice !!!!

grab ya some steel wool or sandpaper and start cleaning that paint off,,next time make it simple and order the SS ones

They didn't have SS ones. Everyone else wanted like $11 for the ones they had and I wasn't sure if they were even made by Kanger.

Indeed I do realize, which is why I said in my previous post that I would NOT personally use them ;)

Reply to the wrong person perhaps?

    Anyway, to the OP:

In the future order bare stainless cartos. Smoktech makes pre-punched (or I guess they are supposed to be laser cut) XL cartos in single coil, double coil, single hole, double hole, triple hole, in ohms from 1.25-3.xx You can get the exact carto you want in every aspect. I personally prefer single coil 2ohm double hole cartos. Although these also have a flange on the bottom, so they might not work, or look funny on some tanks (The ST tanks have a groove for the flange)

If you absolutely need to use these cartos right now, then carefully scrape or sand the paint off. Plug up, and tape off both ends of the carto to make sure you don't get any paint dust inside it.

I'd just forget about using them in a tank, myself. Not worth the hassle or risk.

I'm making a small tank for a KR808. Those are 510 cartos and they are overpriced just cause they have a whole punched.
I think I'm gonna get some steel wool and some Goof Off (I think it's called Oops now) and clean it off. I'm gonna continue my search for more VGO cartomizers and hopefully find some stainless ones.

    -------------------------

To batitude I'm pretty sure customs won't allow products come into the US contaiminated with lead paint. I know there was some toys that tested positive for lead and the US came down on China hard about it. Lead is banned here and I'm sure they make it to where no lead painted things that go in people's mouths are imported.
Just like if something was illegal there customs wouldn't allow it to be imported.

Not Kanger, but just as good of a carto. If you just have to have dual coils, they're $ .50 more.

Smoktek 808 threaded XL length cartos with prepunched holes for $2.00 each. 808 Tank Cartomizers

My comments were not directed towards you. I was hoping to stress the points that you had made to the original poster. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Glad you got your answers here. Doubt anybody cares about your attitude much. If you ask advice then take the good and leave the bad according to your own experience and just carry on dude

I don't have an attitude. I'm just replying.
I am taking advice and all but there is different suggestions here and there. So I can't do what everyone says.
Besides it is my choice to take the advice or not. No one should get mad if I don't. I sure wouldn't get mad if someone didn't take my advice...they have free will so it's up to them.
You really need to relax some of these statements like the cartos have lead paint are just assumtions or theories (no offence batitude). I really don't think US Customs would allow something painted with lead that it put up to your mouth to be be imported.
Besides there is some over spray on the inside of the carto housing and I haven't seen it dissolvong and I'm sure if I took a blood lead level test I would be fine although that is just an assumption of my own :p:

I am going to order some stainless steel ones like I said as soon as I find them but for now I am gonna remove the paint off of one and use a solvent tto get the residue off.
So I am taking people's advice.

Please stay on topic and whatnot. Trust me a am a chill guy and I do not mean to seem like I have an attitude at all.
So let's just all sit back, vape and get along :)

Smoketek 808 threaded XL length cartos with prepunched holes for $2.00 each. 808 Tank Cartomizers

Thanks a lot for the link. I'm currently out running some errands and I will check it out as soon as I get home :)
$2.00 a piece isn't that bad. I won't really use dual coil since it would drain my little KR808 batteries faster :p:

The only cartos I buy for my tanks are boge. I have one of the $40 us carto punches and found I can make my own punches from it. If you check Baditudes blogs he list several vendors of pre-punched cartos. I've been using the boges from Electronicstix.com. And I tried to clean off a black one to use and wound up throwing it in the trash can . I'll pay a bit more and be happy in the long run.
