I've only tasted sweet tea once. It makes less sense to me than Okra.
oh God... just had fried okra for the first time the other day... it was awesome!

and i thought of another one, not really embarrassing, just funny-
I once dropped a LIT clove under the seat in my car and had to stop and get it to finish it off i mean not burn my car up...

I remember writing up run forms in the ER staff lounge and smoking away as I wrote..... good old days, even the ready rooms in the hospital had ashtrays, much better then freezin yer .... off writing them at a picnic table in winter years later when we had to then switch to smoking outside, now today you have to go off the entire property to have a smoke, parking lots included....vaping is sooo much easier than dealing with that.

My husband hated to have me driving to a convenience store late at night when I would realize I was out of smokes and he hated going to get them himself even more, so he would buy extra packs and hide them around the house. Only problem was he could never remember where he hid them, so I remember tearing the house apart late at night trying to find a nicotine fix. Now that I no longer want or need them, I occasionally find a pack. Ones I couldn't find when I was desperate to have one.

I also remember when the actors on TV and movies who smoked were the good guys instead of the evil villains like they are nowadays. Back then, .... Van ...., the nicest guy on TV, smoked. Today, only drug dealers and prostitutes are allowed to smoke in movies.

I remember digging enough change out of the sofa cushions to buy a pack of smokes. If you have enough change in your sofa now to buy a pack, you must have a really lumpy couch.

ETA--Ha, ha, the censors are busy tonight. I guess I should have typed Rob Petrie instead of the actor's real name. Apparently, the nickname for Richard is offensive.

LOL, funny thread,,

I remember 65 cent a pack cigarettes,,,,,,

forging a note from Mom so I cold buy them,,,,,,

smoking in malls and restaurants,,,,,,,

Not being able to sleep at 2am and guaging how many cigarettes I had left and how many per hour I could have so I wouldn't run out before the store opened at 6am (no such thing as 24 hour stores)

trying to find a lighter at the bottom of my purse or on the floor while driving (dangerous)

saying I'd quit when they got to be 1.00 per pack,,,,,

when no car drive was 20 minutes,,,,or one hour,,,,,,,,it was a two cigarette drive,,,,,,or a 4 cigarette drive,,,,,,

coffee, small talk and cigarettes with friends,,,,,, (I still like that,,,,,,but now it's vaping instead!)

smoking in the hospital waiting room 20 minutes after I'd given birth (seriously??????????)

smoking while PREGNANT (yes, really,,,,,,,they told me to "cut down if I could")

smoking on airplanes,,,,,

I'm sure there's more,,,,,,but those are the ones I remember the best :) I'm so glad I don't smoke anymore!

Cigarette machines. Every bar and restaurant had one. 3 quarters and pull out the knob. Mostly Camels, Marboros, Old Golds, and Newports.

Johnny Carson always having a lit cig in his ash tray.

Smoking anywhere on an airplane, in airports, in stores, in movie theatres in Europe.

A huge welcoming ashtray in the middle of every family's coffee table.

Mid 80s, my cigarettes was about 93 cent. My after school job was only like 3.50 per hour. So I thought they was expensive. Boy was I in for a surprise.

Big Gulps came out at this time too. As a family of 4, we was like wow. How can all 4 of us finish this huge drink. It was crazy. My parents on a good week, got 2 6 packs of the glass bottle cartons of Dr Peppers. Us kids had to drag it back the following week to get our deposit back. Sodas was special, something you shared, and it was a treat. Now days, I think my son can kill a 12 pack of mt dew playing video games into all hours of the night.

I love gits. And fried chicken. And corn bread. Some people I've talked to think hush puppies are southern………I always thought they were just coastal (having eaten my first one either in Northern Minnesota near Lake Superior……like, almost to Canada or in New Hampshire) but they're awesome too. Not really a fan of gravy, but that's mostly a texture thing. A little brown gravy on mashed potatoes is good as long as they still feel like potatoes.

Mostly, I just don't like sweet tea or southern preparation of vegetables……you know, cooked to death so they barely have cell walls left and taste like nothing……either go all the way and make Indian curry or just flash them with high heat and leave them crispy. And I still prefer Pepsi to Coke……but I'm convinced that's really just a matter of which objectively disgusting aftertaste you got used to as a kid.

I couldn't resist responding to this....I was raised on southern cooking. I make a mean homemade S4i+ on a Shingle a/k/a Cream Beef on Toast :) hmm..didn't want to use the cuss word. It's smoked beef crumbled up in a creamy sauce over toast. yum, yum. Actually, being a single mom, my son and I ate it for dinner many times because it was cheap and he loved it. My ex-hubby once told his mom that he liked my cream beef on toast better than hers. She would only make some wierd frozen kind. Before that I didn't even know it came already made and frozen. LOL. She gave me a mean look when he said it, and I was smiling inside. hehe.

…on the :censored: Van :censored: show, staring :censored: Van :censored:!!

Never has SOaS. I might have to try it……it really just depends on the texture of the sauce.

Also…barbecue. Like……good barbecue. Like……from the guy around the corner who's missing more teeth than he's got left and can barely speak english. That makes me happy.

I remember being with my Grandmother one afternoon, after the attendant finished filling up the car with Regular gas, asked her if she needed any thing else and she asked how much a pack of smokes were and when he said .40 Cents a pack she just about hit the roof of the car.. we drove down the block to the pigly wiggly, and she bought them there...
