Do you still have a SHTF secret stash?

I just got my starter kit last week and have only had one analog since. Before I started vaping, I was a RYO guy. I still have a 1lb bag of tobacco, and a carton and a half of tubes left (along with my rolling machine, all my lighters, ashtrays, cig cases, etc). I gathered all of that stuff up and was going to pitch it, but couldn't. I just keep thinking "what if SHTF and I just gotta have a cig". So I have all this stuff carefully stacked and arranged right on top of my tv stand in my bed room. Not gonna lie, I've thought a couple times about busting out a cig (have about 3 packs rolled), but then I remember the 1 I tried since starting vaping last week tasted horrible (I could actually taste the ammonia and god only knows what those other horrible flavors were). I cant figure out why I still cant bring myself to throw that stuff out, but really cant figure out why I still think about having a cig at times even though I now think they taste horrible... Any one else out there have a hard time throwing away their cigs when they first switched to vaping?

yep i had a hard time. i didnt throw mine out. i didnt realize how fast the shipping was so i had bought a pack the day before my 808 kit came in. i still had the majority of my pack left when it arrived. i started off with 12mg, which was too low for me. plus the 808 batts werent strong enough for me either. but i was determined to quit so i stuck with it. every once in a while id get a craving, or id misjudge the power left in my batts, and id reach for a cig.

time goes on, things get better, i start experimenting around with different cartos and different batts. still every so often, id reach for a cig. none of my friends vaped, so they'd bum some of my stale cigarettes. eventually i get a device that completely floors me and i no longer need, want, or even want to look at a cigarette. so one year later, here i am. havent touched a cig in months. and i still have 1 lonely cigarette left from that pack i bought 12 months ago. i consider it a relic of times past.

i still have packs of camels in my car, laptop bag, office desk, home desk, back porch. I didn't want to be any farther away than five minutes of an analog. I think it was the only way that I would be relaxed about not smoking, and I told myself that I could smoke if I wanted to inside the first 30 days of vaping. I went three days with analogs and have not touched them again. it's been five weeks

I had a pack sitting right in front of me with the lighter on top when I got my first kit. I had no desire to smoke them, and so they sat there for a week. I finally moved them. I also have half a carton in the refrigerator here and at least one pack in the condo freezer.

Don't need them as long as I am vaping. If I have a craving, I just vape and it is gone immediately. And the gooey caramel cookie just tastes so much better! I stock up on juice on sale, and have enough to carry me in DIY for years as I bought a liter of 100 ml/mg and put it in the bottles with the european stopper in my freezer. They can tax it, they can ban it, I am good to go.

ive thought about going that route. grabbing a liter or two of liquid. but i told myself that once it comes down to it, having another year or maybe a few years of liquid is realyl just delaying the enevitable. it would be next to impossible to stash enough to last a lifetime. its costly, but moreover its impractical because nicotine will degrade over time, especially when we are talking years. plus, real estate in my fridge is hard to come by

Everyone is different but there is no way I would keep a stash after I quit smoking. I know myself too well after smoking 35 years and several failed attempts at quitting.

Once I quit smoking for good last spring I put the last remaining pack and the Bic lighters into a plastic bag containing the day's fresh dog poop gathered from the back yard. That went into the garbage can.

If I should ever get so stupid that I want to smoke again I'll have to "walk a mile for a Camel" or drive the mile to the nearest gas station.

I kept the long-nosed lighters I use to light the Webber and Aladdin lamps.

If there is a zombie apocalypse remember: they won't want your e-liquid stash. They are already dead and don't breathe. The best way to barter with zombies is with a .45 or a heavy blunt object.

Exactly, but I will have the time to wean myself gently off nicotine so I won't smoke cigarettes again :p
Mine is in my freezer and doesn't take much space really. Some chemical whiz did some of study on it, and stored that way it won't degrade enough over time to make much difference (maybe 1 mg per year). The brown bottles with the european stoppers mean it is airtight, the cold and dark environment further protects it. The PG/VG it is in is antimicrobial and antifungal, so no contamination issues either.

ETA: and as for cost, it breaks down to 0.05 cents a ml. mixed without flavoring, which would always be available. I don't store the PG/VG like that, just the straight up 100mg/ml. So not expensive at all really, and much less than the premixed stuff.

One word: cigars. They last forever without the need for a freezer. Recently I bought a box from 1978. After a week in a humidor they tasted like a modern cigar. Added bonus: you don't need to inhale to get the flavor/nic!

But I also have some nic juice and PG in the fridge. You never know.

I don't want mouth/tongue etc. cancer either though from smoking tobacco cigars. So it is vaping for me!

well done, vs. especially with the weaning idea.

I didn't keep mine in case I had a "nic fit" -- but more knowing that I had some spare packs let me groove into the switching easier. I phased off the analogs in a few of weeks and then just refused to open another pack because I knew if I opened one, it would disappear. Several months later I gave them to a friend for her back-up, well after I made it through all the withdrawal and was a dedicated vapor. (Her loose tobacco was Out of Stock:p)

Thank you. I did this in case SHTF and they ban or tax the heck out of it which I feel is inevitable and sooner rather than later. With Lorillard owning Blu, you can bet they will CYA against a ban, but not much to do about taxes.

Next sale, I will buy another liter. They can't ban or tax the PG/VG or flavorings so I am good for a few years now with the nic and can just buy the other stuff as needed.

I do not have a SHTF stash. I am planning on going DIY shortly and I will probably stock up on nic juice as I see that as the only thing they will tax/regulate. Once I have a stash I will be good with the other stuff needed to DIY. I already have the Nova Mini, which can be rebuilt so even if they ban e-cig parts I am good to go.

HaHa... I wasn't necessarily talking SHTF like Zombie Apocalypse, more like an "everything-went-wrong" day. Ya know, the kind that only a glass of bourbon and a smoke can fix lol...

Don't be silly. That's TEOTWAWKI ;)

I have enough vaping gear (including a gallon of PG and VG and lots of nic) that all I would need is flavors and replacement generic batteries for a long time.

As some others have said, one of the hardest things about not smoking was "being out". There are six cigs in my laptop bag. They have been there for months, and I don't even know why.

I remember when I started vaping, had a panic attack thinking I should have cigs just in case. I knew if I had them, I would smoke them. Did some soul searching and finally realized, worst case scenario is I would wake up in the middle of the night and just have to smoke. OMG, then a light bulb came on and I realized I am only about 5 minutes from an all night store so need to panic. Didn't buy any and have never smoked since. It might be different if you are in the boonies and don't have the security blankie of being able to go to a nearby store if you were desperate.

I have heard of folks giving their stash to homeless people, not sure how I feel about that but it is a thought if you don't want to toss the money away.

It's not the money. Like I said, I was doing the RYO thing so probably only $20 worth of stuff. Just something in my mind won't let me throw it out. Maybe just knowing its there if the vaping doesn't work out (just like dipping, the patches, the gum, the losenges, etc.) is a sort of mental crutch. I thought about giving it all to my dad who's been a smoker his whole life (and refuses to try my vapes). Then I realized I couldn't in good conscience give him tobacco to smoke. Wouldn't want to give it to anyone else either. It's either garbage, or decoration/crutch... Think it's gonna be crutch for a while.
