Do you think it might be a "tough guy" thing?

My husband and I started vaping 5 months ago. Thankfully, I took to it like a fish to water and have been “smoke free” since. My husband on the other hand started good but still stuck with the stinkies which he said at the time we started he would never buy a pack of them again. He was a chain smoker so I thought it would take a while but now he’s gradually going back to where he started not quite chain smoking but I know he’s smoking a lot more. I was more of a closet smoker but still managed to smoke a PAD. I asked my husband if he would try some other stuff to help him like the snuff and he said “no way, that stuff causes mouth cancer”…..dugh. The other night we went to the fair and he said please don’t be vaping while we’re in there, I said no problem if you don’t smoke in there. My husband is pretty much of a “redneck”…he’s into motorcycles, hunting, fishing, guns and four wheelin. He is a welder in a factory where he inhales welding smoke all day. He’s almost 60 years old.

My question is do you think it might be because he thinks vaping makes him look like a sissy? I know a lot of guys are on here and I’m wanting to help my husband. We’ve been married a very long time and his health is suffering from smoking. He saw the benefits of not smoking when he was mostly vaping and even commented on how much more he could walk and how this hunting season would be so much better walking mountains.

Any suggestions on how to help him would be appreciated. I found out the hard way “harping” on him didn’t help.

Maybe he needs a setup that has a bit more of a "beast" look to it? I mean, if he's walking around with a little ego battery with a clearomizer on it I can see where it might not fit his "image"... On the other hand, if he's got a well built stainless steel mod... something like the Sigelei Zmax v5 maybe? with an industrial looking atty... I hate to say kayfun because it does have to be rebuilt and you would need to learn some knowledge in that arena, but... at the same time... it DOES look nice... and if your husband is as much of a "hands on" guy like it sounds like he is, being more closely "bonded" to his setup by building and wicking his own coils might just make a big difference...

Here's a pic of that exact setup... a kfl in full ss mode (no clear tank section) combined with a zmax. Nothing "sissy" about that... :D

What kind of equipment are you two using? getting newer, bigger, better, shiny, harder hitting tanks and batteries might help. Certainly helps with the cool factor and guys like having things other guys want! :)

A good buddy of mine, known each other since we were teenagers sneaking smokes, is having a real hard time with my vaping, gives me a lot of crap about it. I looked at him last weekend and said, just how long do you think you are going to get away with smoking? My advise is don't biotch at him, only will make him want to smoke more.

"Cigarettes give such pathetic wimpy weak hits compared to a decent vape, some people just can't handle it!" feel free to quote me :)

We both have itaste MVP's, he has one black and one silver. We use the evod tanks. I think you guys are right. We saw a guy vaping a honking big grenade type battery and my husband said it looked like he was vaping on a well let’s just say "male part" lol....and he really did. I've been trying to get him into building coils for me because I go through a lot but he's not interested YET....Thanks rusirius, I'll try to find him a setup like yours.

Since your husband didn’t want you to vape in public, yeah, it sounds like he’s embarrassed about. He also probably didn’t get what he needed from his ecig, either enough nicotine or perhaps he needs WTAs, something I only know about in passing but that someone else can explain. Many of us are not as lucky as you and do have to work hard at converting to vaping.

I’ve known a lot of macho men that are into some apparently pansy hobbies like knitting, raising pet bunnies, gardening, charity work for underprivileged children, etc. I defy anyone to called them a sissy la la and not wind up a mere smudge on the pavement.

What kind of ecigs are you guys using? Is your husband aware of all the different mods and mech mods out there? If he’s a welder, I’ll bet he could really get into the vape thing (might want to put him on a budget right now) if he only knew all that was out there. Find him some good PBusardo YouTube videos to watch. Maybe get yourself a good mod and see if his interest perks up.

Okay, and now you’ve answered some of the questions but I’m still going to leave this intact. I wish you and your husband the best of luck. He has seen the health benefits and it’s just a hunch that he will come around. I get the dildo part of it, something I had to get used to too. :(

Sigh... If it's an image thing he may never get past it. Personal biases are... personal. Fortunately for every one person who gets hung up on an image issue there are probably 10,000 who just don't care. I'm in the "don't care" category and vaped in public from day one without giving a thought to it. Same goes for the age question. Sure, there are old farts who have had an old fart mentality long before they ever hit... 40 even. Then again we have 70+ years olds here whipping out coils and playing with the technology with the best of them.

You may want to have him take a look at a metal Reo Grand. It's still a box shape, but it's built out of a solid block of aluminum so it may have a "manly thing" going on for him there. And if any of the guys in the shop give him any grief about vaping he can just wind up and chuck the Reo at 'em. It sure won't hurt the Reo anyway...

I doubt it has anything to do with the tough guy thing. Us macho guys don't give a flying rats rump what other people think of us. (besides our mother & wife)

Probably has more to do with he believes the damage is already done due to most of a lifetime of inhaling welding fumes and smoking cigarets.
Then there's the having to carry around all the vape related stuff everywhere you go and having to fiddle with filling, cleaning, charging & so on and on.
Much easier to carry & use cigarettes both hands free for working or other things that take both hands.

Bottom line, if & when he wants to quit he will.
The only reason I vape is my wife & mother went on a 10 year joint campaign to get me to quit, dang sure wont work for everybody, that includes vaping.
