No, I didn't use the "look" I was pretty nice about him continuing to smoke. I think he himself is starting to worry about how much *he* coughs compared to *me* now, whereas before he could look at my COPD headed self and say, "Well, I'm not as bad as the wife," LOL.

Hmm... if we both end up vaping heavily, we may need to make an "outside" rule, at least in Summer, where I can't just open the doors, and turn on the fan, especially in the morning. That would be okay...

Yeh, after trying to get him to try my vapes, well, I just gave up and shut up and prayed about it, LOL.

Poor guy's been smoking since age 8, not quite sure how his behavior might change if he stopped using nicotine to organize his brain, and since he does the heavy lifting on bill pays and whatnot, I'd like his brain to be nice and focused.

He can smoke ALLLL the cigars he wants, within reason, although I loathe both cigars and the associated smells, but it would be outside, anyway.

Just... A nice little event that happened that was totally unexpected Yes, I was going to give him the mech mod either way, but WAS prepared to run from the "Why are you always shoving stuff on me...." result. Now, I think it will be EXCELLENT, heh.

IF he ends up enjoying vaping I think he will give up the cigars too. In my opinion vaping is much closer to cigars and pipe smoking than it is to cigarettes.

And to be honest, an occasional cigar really isn't all that bad for you. Nor is a shot of whiskey every now and then. The saw dust and fumes from his woodworking is probably worse for him lol.

God if only my sister would switch too XD my mom and i both tried and tried for the last 6 months but she dosen't want to hear it, even her daughter asked her about it and her bf said he'd be ready to give it a shot but he can't do it alone (basically he can't stand not smoking and having someone else do it). Unfortunate but oh well, still told her i'd guide them through it if they ever changed their minds since that's the only thing i can do

I'm sorry to hear that is still the case, @QcVaper . Although, if you ever told me I'd become a full time vaper, I would have laughed in your face (or coughed in it) but pneumonia, steroids, abx, and knowing I would die slowly and horribly of COPD beat me into a state of reasonableness. Maybe everyone needs to stop pushing vaping until she starts developing health problems, which honestly, the idea of dying of COPD was probably the ONLY thing that would ever have pushed me away from vaping, I think I could've even stomached lung cancer or jaw cancer, but I do have an earnest desire not to drown to death, slowly, over decades, OR to do that to my family.

That's the thing, though, everyone's motivations and hatred level of cigarettes is different. Just keep vaping and being a good (and silent) example. It was only after I SHUT UP about vaping for like MONTHS that the Husband made his BIG announcement.

That’s really good on his end! Well done at *I presume* not trying to shove something down forcefully on him, seems light touch worked.

Oh and I found the occasional cigar moments I thought I’d have, instantly vanished considering the point of the cigar is the flavor, and well.. vaping has that covered if nothing else to say the least lol. Unless of course it’s some peer thing where they get together every year as some cigar shop reuinion.

Well, he said, "I don't want any input from you, and I may be the kind of vaper that still smokes a cigar on occasion," but he went on and on about how bad smoking was making him feel. But, he wants his last hurrah before quitting smoking I guess.

This means I don't have to run and duck for cover when I give him his Christmas Mech mod (though I am sure he will need something else for out and about), it just came out of nowhere!

I guess the advice to stay quiet and just vape was a good one, LOL. I am THRILLED though, because that's how I started vaping (to cut back) and eventually I quit.

Oh, I babbled on for a bit about how I would make his transition as easy as possible (LOL) but he didn't want to hear it quite yet, so I shut up.

This is so exciting, even if he never becomes a never smoker, I love how the quite persuasion started working... I almost smoked a celebratory cigarette with him, but then I remembered.... :

It's like driving directions. Guys have to find their way by themselves or run out of gas before appreciating that "suggestion". I think it's buried somewhere in our Y chromosome.

Smokers (male or female) can be even more stubborn about it than guys and directions, which I think google maps fixed that for the most part (although they don't show up in Tucson frequently and almost all new roadwork is kind of this disaster where you have to try and figure out which exits to the highway (I guess, to be fair, there are two) are closed/open/inadvisable.

Some smokers would rather DIE than ask directions in how to vape, LOL. But yes, the silent subliminal advertising seems to have done the trick and it was HARD, although it was fun having the husband "fix/learn" from some of my "mistakes" (they weren't all true mistakes, LOL) and whatnot. Shutting up was HARD, but I just DID IT, after a while (instead of talking to the husband, I started talking to my higher power about it, LOL, silently, in mah brain...)

You go girl! Quiet encouragement, positive outlook and reinforcing the rewards in ways that makes someone happy about the accomplishment will hopefully get the boy over the hump. In a month or two, he'll never figger out why he didn't do it years ago. I don't know anyone that fully made the vaping switch that could actually go back to cigs after a couple months on vaping. As a nurse, I saw a lot of good stories after I told patients about vaping, and I got one myself, today is 3141 days smoke free (after 39 years of cigs, EEK!)

Nope, me and the husband won Valentine's day already. We decided to gift each other with the most awesome V day gift OF ALL TIME and then forget it forever (it's such a dumb holiday). He sent one of those bears girls go gaga over (they're stupid expensive, I forget the name of them, Vermont Teddy Bear Co or something??) with flowers and chocolates to my (at the time predominately female) office, and I was like "What is this odd bear and stuff?" only realized that he wanted to give me bragging rights. You should have heard the number of women going, "Oh, my husband/bf would NEVER do something that awesome... blah blah blah," and THAT was way more entertaining than the bear.

I got him his first flat screen TV, and having no idea what he wanted I just said to the salesman, "Why don't you show me what you have that's most expensive, that way if he wants to exchange it, he can just do that when he comes and gets it?" LOL, the salesman was happy to make a sale, I think with a hint of "God, I wish my GF would do that." He ended up just taking the expensive one, it's a fairly large plasma screen and we still use it. He also got bragging rights with his guy friends.

Since we both agreed "best gifts ever" we decided to avoid the practice in the future. I still have the bear someplace, but I believe it might be out in one of the sheds. Unless it died in the fire.

There is such a thing as TOO MANY holidays, and when I worked as a waitress in Grad school, the couples coming into my establishment did not seem oh so happy to have their thousand dollar meal and wine pairing delight (I was working for a snooty French Chef in Georgetown, got to meet lots of Senators and famous folks, but even better than that were the tips, LOL.

Awesome News! It sounds like he is committed to trying at least - which is a huge step. I’ve been trying to get my brother and nephew to TRY but they coughed so much while trying they insist it’s worse. It’s a mind/mental thing - it isn’t easy especially for those like me who smoked analogs for almost 40 years. It irritates me when people think I switched from one bad thing to another bad thing and it was soooo easy! It wasn’t but I’m 4.5 years without even one drag of an analog and I can definitely tell the difference. I think the best tool I used to keep from going back was to tell myself if I did - I’d be hooked again and all my suffering would be for nothing.
I did give myself 10 days smoking BOTH - with that specific END date to stop analogs completely. My last day - May 29, 2013.
Sending good thoughts out for SUCCESSFUL transition!
Oh and don’t let him give up if he does fail. I tried a year before that and gave up. The secret was in finding that right juice!

Congratulations Anna,
My transition took time,for the 1st 2-3 months i was smoking and vaping.This may be because my only teacher was YouTube and i was learning or because i was scared to totally give up my crutch of 28yrs.
9 months , 10 box mods & 25+/- RTA,RDA,RDTA,GTA later i successfully found what i like and what delivers the proper nicotine i need to function. Oh and lets not forget the $1000s of dollars in ejuice just trying to find something I could tolerate all day long. The saying that " Vaping is a cheaper alternative to smoking" didn't quite work out for me but vaping did get me off of cigarettes and I can't put a price on the value of that!!!
New Year's Day is coming up quick and I encourage everyone who reads this to also encourage their family and friends who smoke to take up vaping as a New Year's resolution, it may just save their lives...

There is nothing like the feeling of putting down the ole stinkies forever. I quit smoking about 6 or 7 years ago and never looked back. I JUST hated the way a cigarette made me feel and smell. I was determined. It took me about 3 or 6 months to totally give them up. It was that one cigarette in the morning. I HAD to have it, then one day, I just said I'm done and that was it. Keep in mind, everyone transitions differently. Remember also back then there was not much available on the market for vaping. I'm so thrilled to hopefully add one more person to our wonderful family. Good luck!
