If you have Zonealarm Pro, try this (may be off a little)
Click on privacy
- Select Main tab
- Custom settings for ad blocker
- In "Ads to Block", deselect Animations
Click on privacy

Do you reboot? even tho the second one failed? If not, try that.
Do you have ZoneAlarm Pro installed? If so, open the programm, go to the Privacy Tab and click on the custom button. Make sure that the option to block animation is turned OFF.

Thank you ... once I turned the block off in ZoneAlarm my ears started wiggling in Firefox and IE 
All I have to do now is to work out why the files on my disk are not moving with any progarams. That's not a big problem though, at least the ones on the internet work.

Never mind, it works now.
I think I must have saved the files from the internet when the animation block was active and now I've downloaded them again they work in IrfanView.

Kate, glad you got it fixed. i really hate it when my computer acts ugly. My problem right now is my keyboard works fine except when I am on the internet and then it is slooooooow. I will figure it out one of these days. It is easier when something just don't work.

I wish I could advise you about your keyboard Taz but as you can see, technology isn't one of my strong points.

Well I have never heard of a firewall stopping animated gifs but its something to keep in mind should a computer featuring zonealarm start acting up in that way
Now we should haz happy feet.

This is why people in tech support end up pulling out all their hair and setting themselves on fire in the middle of the parking lot. You had the solution the whole time.

menu in the software that allows you to enable this feature.

I was a Technical Specialist for SONY for 3 years (the guy the lower support people and/or offshore people would forward you to when nothing else worked). The last half of that last year I was at the point where i DREADED going into work. Now I'm a programmer (somewhere else) and I enjoy it very much. I'll be here 4 years in May.

There. Now we really do haz da happy feet.
I really did try fiddling with the firewall settings and turning it off before but the animations still wouldn't work. There were actually two problems making it more confusing.

Ohh man I missed you Kate! I love tech support... they are soooo helpful (if they can understand your english).
Sorry, I missed your post until now. I wouldn't have been any help anyway. The program someone suggested in the beginning of the thread CCleaner is a great program to have and to use. I've used it for years. You can go to options in it and tell it what cookies to keep and which to pitch (which is great for Vista because they hid the da*n cookies folder)
Think Zep is gonna get a lot of messages from all of us when our 'puters are on the fritz.
Taz, your's problem sounds like a RAM problem. Try enabling more Virtual Memory... to do that just go to the start menu, click on help and support, enter "virtual memory", when the topics come up the 4th one down "change size of virtual memory", pick that one and then just follow the directions and increase the size.
