I had a lady have a fit at the drive-in movie, and I was using my pink Riva. She was grabbing people in her group and bringing them over and pointing at me in the car shaking her finger. We always loved going to the drive-in because we could smoke there, so it was unsettling.. but then, I went to an amusement park and nobody paid any attention to me and I was using the REO. My close friend tells me that she can't stand to be next to me when I'm using the Riva, but it doesn't bother her at all if I have a box in front of my face. Go figure. I don't really care what anybody thinks, I'm not smoking anymore.

I am actually the General Sales Manager. But, if there are customers outside looking at vehicles, coming back from test drives ect ect. I don't like to vape. But I also don't like vaping anywhere in public if I am around people I don't know, it just feels wierd to me. But I do regularly vape in my glass office when no one is looking :)

This is an attitude I think we as vapers need to change. Lots of people say they will if it gets commonplace. Well guess what, if we don't do it, it isn't ever going to get commonplace. My rules are as follows, outside anywhere I do it, in a bar here I do it, in a restaurant I ask and I've never been turned down. The other thing I'll say is you don't want to look like a smoker. People have a lot more trouble with you vaping, if they think you are trying to look like you're smoking. So, those of you that will only use mods at home and use your KR808s when in public, come out of the closet. There's nothing to be ashamed of.

The only comment I ever got when I asked in a restaurant was from a manager that told me he had trouble when a guy with a cigarette looking kit was vaping at the bar and everyone complained about him smoking. I vaped all I wanted in that restaurant with my homemade box mod. No problem at all. If we emulate smokers, we will be treated like smokers.

How do you generally go about asking to vape in a restaurant? I haven't gotten up the nerve to do that yet. I'd love to take my REO into a restaurant and enjoy it before and after dinner. :) Do you ask the manager? The waiter/waitress? And what do you say?

I ask the server. Usually that's enough. Sometimes they get the manager. I pull it out and say, "Is it okay if I use this in here?" Occasionally, I have to explain what it is because it is a box mod. Usually they say, "Oh that's one of those e-cig things. Sure, it's fine."

The whole, I'm doing something wrong so I want to hide while I do it, attitude will get these things banned. You aren't doing anything that harms others nor should you be ashamed of it.

I don't vape where I couldn't smoke... I believe other people have the right to clean air where posted as such. That includes no PG, VG vapor (for now). That's their expectation in a non-smoking area. Now, I know you could say "ban candles on tables, birthday-cakes, auto exhaust, etc". But that doesn't negate the point. I respect others rights, and I hope that they, in turn, will respect mine. I would rather the host/hostess asked me "vaping or non-vaping?" when being seated.... but hey, you can always dream, right? I realize that mass-education is an issue here. So I respect their feelings... even if there is no demonstrated issue with vaping around others. I do not think that vaping is subject to smoking laws/bans. It's different.

Feeling embarrassed about vaping is a symptom of the duality of the idea that you would vape in front of them, while knowing that you weren't allowed to smoke there. If you don't vape where you can't smoke, you don't have that issue. This does not mean I think 2nd hand vape is dangerous. Education of the masses is necessary before we get to "vaping or non-vaping" areas, tho. I respect the feelings of others, and in general, don't go out of my way to deliberately offend them, just to cop an attitude or support my addiction. I realize that the addiction is my problem, not their problem.

OTOH, I also realize that a large segment of the population has nicotine addiction and I fully support smoking/non-smoking areas and vaping/non-vaping areas (and for bars/pubs in particular).

I've yet to have any issues vaping in public. I don't really go to that many restaurants and I generally tend to stealth vape when I'm in public. I've learned to do so very well here at work where smoking isn't permitted and vaping is still up in the air. So I've gotten to where I can do it where no vapor is visible. Because of this, I don't ask if it's ok if I vape as they really can't tell what I'm doing unless I bring it to their attention. I'm not really one to go out and educate people, I prefer to keep my vaping to myself. If somebody does ask, I'll tell them. But I don't go out broadcasting it. Maybe it's not best for the vaping community, but it's what works for me.
