During my first year of vaping, I was seriously in the red. It took me a long time to find what I truly loved in terms of devices, atomizers, and juice.

I was active on social media, Instagram and Facebook, and promoted the companies I loved, and garnered a bit of notice. Two years later now, I have a few sponsors and I really don't have to pay to Vape at all. I buy from my sponsors still to support them but their generosity has kept me solidly in the black.

Just a shame that DIY won't be doable in the future unless we stock up.

Stocking up is the key, and quite honestly, the only thing I see being impacted is nicotine base. I'm sure that most of us can find room in the freezer for a few liters of nic base.

One liter of nic base at 100mg/ml can be mixed to create TEN liters of e-liquid at 10 mg/ml. At a usage rate of 10ml/day (because I like easy problems) that's over 2 1/2 years of vaping.

Even 250 ml would at the very least give you some breathing room should EVERYTHING get shut down overnight, and time to get something figured out.

I would love to stock up as much as I can, but can't quite afford much and i don't have a freezer and can't use the refrigerator for it. So that's my issue.

Still planning on buying 1L100mg. Store it in small bottles in a dark place. Hope for the best. At least i'd have great vape for a long time. Maybe the nic get's weaker, but that would go so slow I wouldn't notice it. And maybe the quality get's worse. But I don't really care. Ad long as i can keep my addiction, I will.

I'm sorry to hear about your storage situation, but if you're looking for extended storage life, look at this:

Nude Armor v2.0 Nicotine Base - EXTENDED SHELF LIFE - Nude Nicotine

It's a little pricier than some other nicotine options but they're made for the long haul.

Haha, just a bit of a frivolous comment, but as I am an uncurable spreadsheet nerd I thought I'd try to forecast when I'd break even after vaping after seeing all the inpressive banners.... Oh dear - shouldn't have done that! I live in acountru where cigs are extremely cheap - they were just hiked up to USD 4 per pack. I spent a good 7-8 months tinkering and didnt quite commit to vaping, but bought USD 1,500worth of gear, juices etc (including a faulty ego one and a provari which is mostly relegated as a back-up to my i-stick, sorty, don't see what the fuzz is all about). Now that I have switched 100pct (22 days yay!) I find that the one thing that really sustains me is my Kentucky Premium blend. At 4-5 ml a day that's a wopping 65USD per month. Factoring in atomizers, some diy flavours and some smallish buys as well as the KBP it will be around Mid-2017 before I break even - and that's for a 1-2 pack a day habit. Arghhh. I really wanted the subox mini!! Anyways - just sharing. I guess the good bit is that I am in so deep now that going back to analogues would make all the investment worthless. (And just to lighten up - I am a runner and am now seeing massive improvements in both pace and distance I can run, so truly seeing the benefits!).

Does anyone else feel that the economics just aren't as rosy as they had thought?

I never could afford to get everything I wanted but I got a lot :). I have been using just one set up now for 16 months and vaping unflavored for almost a year. I am saving tons of money and I love it. :)

Or.. considering he's in Norway... get a small lockbox and bury it in the snow somewhere -- it'll be snow-covered there till what, April? By then you may have access to a freezer.

We are lucky to have access to cheap solutions in the US. I snagged a small freezer from Walmart on Thanksgiving. That solves my food situation also. Having pancreatitis I'm always running out of food because I'm too sick to get groceries on time. It seems to happen almost every week. Now I should have room for extras to help with that problem.

Well, let's see.
Starter kit... $20
Replacement battery... $10
Mod upgrade (Gravity twist/Kanger PT2)... $50
Replace broken tank (Kanger PT2)... $25
Mod upgrade (iTazte VV3/iClear 30)... $60
Replace stolen mod (iTazte VV3/iClear 30)... $60
Tank upgrade...(iClear 30b) $30
Replace lost mod (iTazte VV3/iClear 30b)... $60
Tank upgrade (Aspire Nautilus)... $35
Mod upgrade (iTazte MVP2)...$40
Mod upgrade (iTazte MVP20W)... $30
Mod upgrade(s) (iTazte MVP3.0 PRO/iSubG/Aspire Triton 2.0)... $120

That totals out to $480 in hardware.

I've been vaping for 24 months.
My maintenance supplies (juices, and coils) WERE averaging about $120 a month, but as I've become a smarter shopper, I've managed to cut that in HALF for the last 6 months.
That adds up to... $2520
An even $3000 for two years of vaping.
Now, at $60 a carton, smoking a carton a week, I'd have spent $6240.
That means that I've saved $1620 a year by switching to vaping.

Could I have done better? Sure by not breaking/losing so much hardware, and shopping smarter, my best guess is that I'd have come out better by around $1400.
I'm estimating that (barring any serious bouts of shiniitis), next year should see my costs around $1000, even if I have to replace my current mod.

I thought everybody was cats and dogs from the Avi's. So, here I'm just talking to human's?? Gotta think about that some....
Yes, life could be harsh. And (may I mention?) some aliens use human avatars when in reality they may look a bit different:

I've saved money. I was a pack a day smoker spending $180-200 a month. I started vaping a few months ago and spent about $40 on my first mod which didn't quite do it for me. I then bought a Subox mini and now spend about $50 a month for juice and coils. I want a new mod so I can play with different tanks and drippers but I don't "need" anything new. I have a growing list of wants but so far I've been able to hold back. So far...

For me, I look at how much you used to smoke and how much cigarettes are in your area vs. how much you vape daily and the cost of the juice (and HW).

Obviously a bit too simplistic, but my point is that I was personally smoking almost a pack a day at $12.50 a pack. That gives me over $4500 a year I was spending on smokes. Hard to spend $4500 a year on vaping in my (limited) experience. I have spent almost $1k in a few weeks (4 mods, about a litre of assorted juice, lots of coils and 7-8 good tanks). To me, that is going completely overboard as well. At even 10ml/day, I have at least a 3 month supply. Even with all of the HW added into my first 3 months, I am still ahead. If I smoked $4 Indian Reserve smokes, my ROI study would be much less compelling. I have been vaping 4-6ml a day so far as well, so I am really further ahead than above.

The fact that a great mod is generally under $100 helps. I would never spend $200+ on a mod. Something like a Sigelei 150TC at $70-80 would be along the lines of something I would buy if I got bored with my current setup.

Yeap "Sin" tax sure makes smoking expensive here in Ontario, was 12$ a pack here when I quit...

I was just under 2 packs a day when I quit...

Congrats. That's some serious $$$ spent on smokes. You could buy gold plated tanks and mods and still be ahead! ;)

It's crazy here. I wonder how some people can even affords to smoke in our fine province. I can drive 30 min north and buy Indian knockoffs for cheap but I couldnt stand smoking them.

My wife and I were spending $25 A DAY on smokes. She is cutting down as she is warming up to vaping, but still smoking more than a 1/2 pack. If she ultimately quits, an extra $9000 a year is not chump change by any stretch.

    .. a bit too simplistic,
I basically just compare what I would've spent on smoking but haven't, and what I have spent on vaping. Pretty much the same as your algorithm. I consider the health benefits as, benefits. As in I don't even bother to consider how much in medical bills would have to be paid..

    True.

And also.... I am not embarrassed to take work people or customers in my car (smoke smell goes away suprisingly fast), my clothes don't stink (save a bit of $$$ on dry cleaning), I don't need to chew a pack of gum a day.... oh, and I have a better chance of seeing my 3 year old daughter grow up.

Vaping is obviously not 100% without risk, but regardless of what the long term effect of vaping is, I'm pretty confident that smoking is many times worse. A much healthier option IMO.
