Definitely interested in this thread.

I remember a couple years ago I was excited about dropping from 3 to 0. Had the day set, looked forward to it....when it arrived, it felt odd...after the first day I was a mess...kept feeling anxious and off...kept forgetting things. I didn't have the nic withdrawal I had from cigarettes ...it was odd.
I've been sick a few times where I couldn't vape...no problem....trying to go to 0...weirdness. like I psyched myself out.
I think personally if I'm going to 0, I may quit entirely

If you do go down the 0 path, best of luck and I hope you find others

Oh I withdraw like a chocolate bunny in hell trust me. My world crashes down like a brick house dropped from the clouds. I get panic attacks so bad my heart probably has tears from the last time I tried to cut down without following my steps. To put it allegorically, music tastes like mud when I quit nicotine, and warm sun light looks like hospital bathroom .........

I can't really step down with you because my primary addiction isn't nicotine even though it used to be. I have more of a hand-to-mouth sort of addiction and I know that because I regularly just grab a bottle of juice between 0 mg and 3 and use it and I do not ever notice any ill effects of a 0 milligram. But I can cheer you on. I know you can do it. I used to be very physically addicted to nicotine as well and 5 years later I don't have any physical reaction like I said. I just don't like to waste juice otherwise I would happily pitch all of my nicotine-containing product. And since it doesn't seem to cause me to fall off the wagon so to speak I'm just going to use it until it's no more and then just keep on making 0 milligram. I think it's good that you have a plan and I think it sounds like a good plan. So I wish you and anyone that wishes to join you the best of luck and remember it's a process and that there's a goal but you cannot allow yourself to get too down on yourself if you're struggling :)

Very interested in following this! My medical insurance never classified me as a smoker until 2 months ago and they added vaping to their criteria. So now I am paying higher premiums
I just ordered juice this morning before I saw this thread and ordered 3 mg, going from 6 mg. I hope to quit completely so I don't have to pay the high premiums. My insurance has higher premiums even if you vape zero nic

I'd be shopping around for a new insurance company if you have that option. If it's a workplace policy you might not have an option.

I'm not trying to get you to not quit, I think you should if you have a mind to.

But as far as I know there is no way for any insurer (life, medical or otherwise) to know if you are vaping 0mg. They can only go on your word. PG (or PEG), VG and flavorings are used in food products so an oral swab test (even if was designed to detect the use of VG, PG and various ingredients of flavorings) would not prove you are vaping 0mg. It would merely prove that you have common food ingredients in your system. But there likely isn't such a swab test anyhow.

But now that the cat is out of the bag, too late.
So glad I read this. They told me when I quit vaping for three months I can be classified as a non smoker again! I think as soon as I go zero nic for three months I will change my status!

Hi everyone! I am going to be stepping down to 0mg liquid and I figured I'd make a thread and see if anyone would like to join in on the experiment. I've quit nicotine a few times throughout my life and I think I've nailed down a pretty good method. I basically just create an interval between the time I wake up, and the time I vape liquid with nicotine in it. So to begin, for example, I would go a week where-in I am vaping only 0mg nicotine for the first hour I am awake, then a week where I go 2 hours before I vape nicotine liquid. If anyone here is struggling to step down, you're welcomed to join in. This thread can serve as a goals and accountability thread if a few of us commit together. If you are interested in joining, please comment below and follow this thread. We can begin in a week or so to allow anyone who wants to join that doesn't have 0mg, enough time to buy/order 0mg. We can check in with each other and report how we felt going without. If all goes according to plan, we can then begin to plan our next step down due date. You can also play along by just abstaining from vaping for your first hour. Maybe we can choose a goal to hit by New Years.

Let me know if you want to give it a shot. Lurkers welcomed.
Hi, Interesting idea and props for the initiative. However, I feel that its way too early for me to attempt anything like that, I only quit smoking in May this year.
There would also be a problem with the interval between waking up and vaping liquid with nic. My day at the moment begins like this:
1. The alarm in my phone goes off. I switch it off
2. 5 min later the second alarm goes off. I switch it off :D
3. 3rd alarm goes off. I have to face the reality- it's time to get up. First thing I do is drink a pint of water (always there next to my bed). Then immediately I vape like 10 puffs in short intervals. After that I'm awake and ready to get up!

I agree. Another example of how people get penalised for being honest. But not everything is lost, @57chilicat you could always try to change your policy- tell your insurer that you've managed to quit vaping. And like UncleJuncle said, there's no tests that could detect 0mg vaping

Caffeine and Nicotine ... Sometimes I wonder if drinking coffee and cola drinks all day long are a similar issue, especially when you consider the sugar shot.

I view vaping vs smoking as a health improvement. Vaping took away my 2 PAD cigarette habit back in 2010.

I recently had a CT Scan as part of a physical and my lungs are clear. I smoked for decades. When I smoked there were hazy areas that doctors blamed on smoking residue. Those hazy areas are gone after years of vaping.

When I stepped down gradually from 24mg to 0mg I was fine until I hit 0mg. The vape without a little nic was boring and no longer satisfied. I stepped back up to 3mg and my brain was happy with a little nic. I've been at 3mg since mid 2010 and all is well. For me, the difference between 0 nic and 3mg nic was dramatically significant.
